    That lawyer of her abusive family really needs to be disbarred for even taking such a ridiculous case.

    Emily's lawyer was right, they parents didn't have a case and the judge should have thrown it out because Emily was a minor when she left. Also, since it went to court, Emily's lawyer should have counter sued for child abuse.

    As Emily lawyer said those evil people have no case. They are the ones who abused Emily. They are the ones who abandoned her. They are the ones who causesd her emotional distress which caused her to leave. She did the right thing to leave. Those people are insane. When she lied when she got caught and her mom told her to make it quick, I couldn't imagine what her mornings or any part of the day was like. They probably rushed this poor girl when she took a shower, brushed her teeth, did her hair, or done her business. Sad.

    So they don't try to reconnect with their child but sue her instead? They are doing this because? Where would she find the money to pay for this, or are they trying to gain control again.

    • @onepieceisking5493

      Trying to regain control and probably also punish her for leaving.
      But of course toxic people like that aren't smart. So it's typical that their shocked that they lost the case by a landslide.
      I bet they're even regretting the case after how their cruelty and abuse went viral. Because now their being shamed by EVERYONE around the world.

      The parents might have call the school to unenrolled her saying they send her to a boarding school or to live with a relative in another city/state

    Where can a child be sued for leaving home?

    • @ladynikkie
      @ladynikkie 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Nowhere no court system in the world would allow something like that especially if it's an abused child.

    • @shellbythesea12
      @shellbythesea12 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      They can't. A child has no obligation to support their family.

    What on earth was the court system and that crazy lawyer think they were doing when they were allowed to file a lawsuit of a Bandan meant on someone who ran away from abuse when she was 16? She was not the breadwinner in the family, so there was no way she abandon anybody she left to preserve her life. She left for safety reasons. I’m glad the court threw out the lawsuit at 16 she got tired of being constantly abused, and she knew it would never stop so she had to leave. That is not abandonment that is running in fear for her life. After what came out in court there should’ve been some backlash on the parents who should’ve been arrested and her brothers for the abuse they put her through.

    Plot ending: After the trial and how Emily's story got out about her life, her family faces serious backlash from social media and their community. Everywhere they went people would glare, whisper, avoid or give them the cold shoulder. Their house got vandalized, got rocks thrown at their windows or threatened letters from strangers.

    • @DBarns7
      @DBarns7 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I could certainly see it going down that way, and it probably did considering what the minutes showed. You have many who comment saying the family should have been arrested and imprisoned. However, I think this is more fitting. Their lives are now ruined both financially and socially. Everyone hates them, and now they don't feel safe anywhere. Ironically, they dug this grave themselves. If they kept their mouths shut, this might have been avoided. But no. They just had to go for a financial lawsuit, thus opening a floodgate. A 'Pandora's Box' if you will? I'll bet they're regretting their choice now. It seems desperation causes people to do stupid things, and tnis story proves it.

    This is a good thing Emily is doing, but she should be careful about helping other teenagers get out of abusive situations. This could be a potential for abusive families to try to sue Emily for "encouraging juvenile delinquencies, encouraging minors against their parents, or whatever other twisted thing they can come up with." So, be careful in how you pursue your helping these kids. KEEP UP THE gOOD WORK!!!!

    • @lindaDaddario
      @lindaDaddario 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I'm sorry, I did not make it clear on what I was trying to say. I was not talking about her abusive parents. What I am saying is that after this fiasco was all over, Emily wanted to help other teenagers who were being abused by their families. They are the ones who might try to stop Emily from helping their kids, so they will not know how to leave such a situation, and the parents can continue to abuse them. They could use the lame excuse that "Emily is contributing to the delinquency of a minor, harassment of the parents, and whatever else they can use to block Emily's efforts to help these kids." out of a bad situation and try to sue her for trying to "force their children to abandon their family" just like Emily's parents try to do to her. She does need to be careful and continue her good work!!

    I had a similar family and ran away from home at 15. However I had nowhere to go and ended up sleeping in a public washroom. Wasn't able to survive so had to return home.

    I don't think there are any grounds for a family suing an adult who ran away as a minor, at least not in the U.S. Maybe this story is from another country?

      I agree about the crime bit. However, instead of abandonment, if she had managed to make money, they could send the police to do a 'welfare check' on their 'poor confused child' to bring her back into the 'loving arms of her family'. Corny, I know, but I've heard of two instances like this.

    Her parents could have easily appealed this dismissal and there could have been a chance an appellate court would reversed this dismissal and ordered judgment in their favor or a retrial on the merits by a jury instead of a bench trial.

      That assumes they had the money to continue the fight. Obviously, they wanted money and control of her life again. The brothers were probably useless mama's boys who didn't make much of themselves and were causing the family to lose money. In many cultures, daughters are considered the money makers even it it's to marry them off for money. So, yeah. Not many US judges would want to touch this due to the ten year interval. The family were just greedy and controlling azzhats. This is all too common.
