Vítězslav Velík hello back to you from the US! Your country made a great bag and I love it. This is the bag I carry the most in the woods. Thanks for watching and for your comment!
I've discovered that the rear middle pouch holds one of those rectangular mess kits perfectly. To the left I can fit an Ozark (WalMart) water bottles, and on the right, a first aid kit made from a large medicine bottle.
I have the Linen version...as you mention, very well made bags, I found mine worked great for day trips out from my base camps...well done review John,,,thanks...woods
Got one of these bad boys from all places( again!) In a huge military surplus shop in South Korea.mine was in excellent condition with the crossed swords and dated '63. Almost didnt get it. It was the last one and my wife opted for the czech M85 vinyl bread bag coz it looked waterproof. This bread bag is kinda rare nowadays so im sure glad i finally got one. A piece of Cold War history. Thanks for the great review john. I hope someday you finally get to do a review on the British 2 pc mess kit.
I took the two hooked straps at the top, fit them together, and pressed in a vise. Now I have a very good handle strap. I suppose you could fit the two straps together a then hammer them into a permanent union.
Just got my bag from McGuire , seems new. Fastened the russian mess kit to the front with leather strap(found at Tractor Supply) looks and works great. They are still available, I might order another. 100 uses.
Andrew Bolay They are excellent bags. I still carry mine a lot by itself for day hikes or in combination with a backpack for longer trips. I like to carry different military canteens on the front flap. Right now I have my Belgian canteen set strapped on. So far I have also carried my Czech, Romanian, Bulgarian, and my Austrian canteen sets on it. I might have to get me another one too!
Its a great bag for day walk essentials and it looks cool. I have the Polish bread bag too. Its nice because you can carry a lot more than Czech bag. I can carry my Polish canteen and mess kit and everything to make a fire, a meal, and more in that one bag. Both bags are awesome in their own ways.
I have both versions of the canteen. My cork one is from 1957 so I chose to carry the newer one that was made in 1990. Thanks again for watching and for your comment!
On the little buckles at the end of each of the outside straps, and the inside strap, on both of my bags, there is a little inscription with the lettering “MSS” (although for a while i thought it was “SSW”, the letter W doesn’t really exist in Czech, so i find “MSS” more likely). Does anyone know what this refers to? is it the union that made the bag? the factory? something to do with the military? One of my bags was made in 1979, the other was 1984.
John Sherwood that’s the plan hopefully, and my thinking is this might be one of the higher trafficked internet spots for this bag so i might as well put the Q in the comments. We will see if it works i guess.
Axerxes I bought it at McGuire Army Navy for $14.99 some time ago. But now it’s $19.99: www.mcguirearmynavy.com/home.php Look under bags with the Categories button and it should be on the first page.
Yes.. Its very hot! I was blessed yesterday afternoon with a little better weather while I filmed this. A line of showers was coming towards us and split to the north and south of me as it passed. The wind and cooler air really helped for a little bit. There is a lot of standing water in my favorite woods right now so I had to divert around the deep spots and deal with more mosquitos. I saw your video about all the rain in your area. Better build an ark!
Got mine today 2/2018 from the same vendor. It is a newer year model and not nearly as well made or the same quality. It is okay I guess for hunting but the straps are cheap nylon the bag material and stitching is a lower grade. The shoulder strap is a single, thin piece and not doubled over and seen like the one on the video. I'm a bit disappointed. I guess the older, higher quality ones are all gone.
Wow! I just went to the site and it shows the same one I bought. I have never seen the bag you are describing. I would contact them and see what they will do. Maybe they still have an older version in stock.
Now that I take a look at the site again, I see what you are talking about. The strap looks wider than mine but the poor stitching you describe has to be the kicker. I hope you are able to find a good one soon.
Butch Broussard there seems to be several variations. i have 2 of these bag, and my dad has had several over the years. The one i most use has a very thick strap and different locations of the leather patches than the others. i believe some of the bags taper at the top and some do not. The one i use most, which is almost exactly the same one as in the video, is from 1979 (actually, my bag has the same EXACT numbering on the inside as well, so seemingly produced at the exact same time in the same place) whereas the thinner one was from 1984. Perhaps different locations produced minor variations?
I bought mine from McGuire Army Navy for $14.99 a few months back. I see that they still have them in stock. There are also some listings on eBay for a couple.
Regards from the Czech Republic as well! :)

Great review. Five years later though these are very hard to find.

That is a neat version of the German bread bag. Had not seen that one before. My personal favorite is still the Polish but these models arent bad.

It was more influenced by the Austrian WWI breadbag than the German models
Thanks for the great review John! Just ordered one off ebay.
Larry Brown awesome. I hope you enjoy it! Thanks for watching my video.
Great review John. thanks!
Thanks for watching and for your comment!
Wonder if you could fit a mess kit in the center pocket?
Nice review . I have one to, also the canteen but with a cork not a plastic bottle cap
I have both versions of the canteen. My cork one is from 1957 so I chose to carry the newer one that was made in 1990. Thanks again for watching and for your comment!
Nice bag, I have a couple Swiss bread bags, this looks better. Thanks and take care.
Detailed review, thanks. You must have a different bag for each day!
Yes. I have too many bags. Just ask my wife! LOL :) Thanks for watching and for your comment!

Red Beard I do not know but I hope someone will read your question and be able to respond. If I run across the answer, I will let you know.

mess kit over the bread bag canteen on the right of that
Hey John, would this fit the swiss army mess kit?
JACK Alleman no it would not. The the bag is too small
What was or is the price or cost of the bag.... approximately??

I like it man. How is it over there, pretty hot? Lol, it sure is over here...

You carry the bottle inside the bag, not outside.
Yes. I figured that. I would rather carry it on the outside so I have more room on the inside for gear. Thanks for watching and for your comment.
Thanks for the nice videos, Hello from the Czech Republic, before Czechoslovakia
