@@keytwitchyPhD This is not accurate. They nerfed Reversal Edge in Season 2 so much the mechanic basically isn’t used anymore except in niche situations. The game ended up and is still in a really good place from a gameplay and balance perspective.
I've never watched SC before, but this was the most fun event for me. Game seems like a perfect balance of being diverse and colourful with a lot of things happening on screen and yet you see everything which happens. Also, GF was so close
"And in this game, the ego is HUGE, because it feels so good to press buttons in, it's INSANE [breaks into laughter]" Extremely true. SC7 when? PLEZ, I need to bust some of them necks!
@@Xenozillex SC has been in a pretty rough identity crisis since 4, imo, but I don't think this is the sort of mistake that they have been making, not broadly at least. They had a really rough time bringing in some sort of super meter but it feels like they got it pretty right in 6 and they also course-corrected the massive paring down of movelists in 5. Feels to me like they're not quite back to the good old days of 4, but they're generally in a good place. Where they messed up this time is that not all character gimmicks feel good or fitting (Azwel is just kinda strange to me, at least, and Hwang just feels like a bizarre guest) and, of course, the whole Reverse Impact thing. That was a really bad idea But RI I feel is a mistake born out of a desire to bring an easily accessible defensive mechanic for newcomers. A worthy goal, sure, but then stopping the match to play rock paper scissors was a terrible idea, so the implementation is just awful. With all that in mind I think that fearmongering is just a non-sequitur. Soul Calibur has as much big button funzies as its always had and fast character with nasty pokes remain threatening and viable to this day
@@VileLasagna I've thought about it, and my own complaint about SC isn't even applicable. Because of its own identity crisis as you said. The fact that you said 'as good as 4' already highlights this. Because I played 4 and it plays like molasses. I played it recently on an emulator for nostalgia, but then realized I only played 4 because I was a hardcore female body appreciator in highschool. And you are right, SC is already has simplistic execution with a focus on movement. However, Bandai is seeing the success of Tekken 8 and they lowered their skill floor/ceiling. So will SC have to pitch some skill concession in order to get the greenlight? This isn't even mentioning all of the other nasty business practices that T8 did.
@@Xenozillex I was never too into Tekken so can't comment too deeply unfortunately. As a spectator, at least, it doesn't look like it's heading in this sort of flashier butless responsive direction? It looks faster and more intense than 7, something I'm divided upon but, again, not a Tekken player so low stakes here for me. With SC and all, I was being a bit specific about movelists and how long/involved they were. Could be nostalgia speaking, sure, but my feel was always that 4 had particularly deep movelists with tons of options so the game felt deep to engage in. I was already maining Nightmare back in the day and when 5 came along it felt like half of the entire thing was just gone 4 was probably where I started playing for real. I DID play quite a bit 3 but I think it's hard to judge my opinions from that time. I know OG Zasalamel and Setsuka were absolutely out of control. I do remember, again as a Nightmare player, being a bit miffed that they did away with Soul Charge because it was such a thing Nightmare was particularly good at making use of (with the handful of auto charge moves he had). Some of THIS has come back in 6 when it comes to Nightmare's new buff specifically, I guess. I think their main issue is "how do we modernise SC?". In 4 they brought the Soul gauge, which was pretty awful. in 5 they had a more regular super meter but they botched some of the fundamentals and in 6 I think RI aside they mostly changed the game in good directions. I feel like there's a good chance that we might see some sort of Drive Gauge like in whatever form SC7 happens. For Impacts, maybe some sort of EX/Soul Charge type thing... in addition to a regular super. But I would appreciate if they, instead, just stuck to what they already have (and toss RI into the sun) or even strip back down, a bit like Samurai Shodown did and embrace being more "fundamentals focused"
@@VileLasagna I think the biggest problem that will be facing SC7 is that the previous project manager (Forgot his name, Oko?) Left Bandai. Which means that once again, SC will have a different 'vision' which is why the gameplay shifted so hard from 3 to 4. How can SC grow as a series if it keeps changing hands?
I still play it frequently. I would've traveled to the area and competed if I could. I would 100% get washed and bodied but at least it would show more people love the game still lol
This was dope, good to see top players going at. Online is infinite queing to the point people say your running if you backstep an attack instead of trying to trade with them like they expected you to. Everything about this level of game play is amazing.
I am in the minority of people that prefer SC over tekken. I love the weapon based combat and the cleanliness of horizontal vs vertical attacks and the 8 way run. I really hope they make a SC7 and they bring back awesome single player modes like in SC3
@RattleSack I know why. The same reason everyone refuses to play it. It's different and unpopular. Games like these have either die-hard fans or haters.
Soul Calibur 7 should have Algol or Azwel or… both. If not, keep it. Btw this top 6 or whatever was mad boring. No bluegod or skyll, these players aren’t the best, just the best that showed up to a 20 player pool lol.
This game is so much cooler than Tekken. Its better to watch and clearly has better mechanics and gameplay. Tekken is like... How many times is he going to bounce off the floor until their dead.. oh wow 2 interactions and round over. Idk why they didnt just make a new soul caliber and let that trash game die.
The sharks and zealots are gonna come after ya at some point, but I wholeheartedly agree with this. The movement feels seamless, soul charge is better than heat engagers that you're almost forced into, the collision boxes aren't wonky and the character meta feels perfect. Tekken feels like it's trying to keep the same jank since 2005. The issue with Tekken now is how they nerfed the movement, buffed the tracking and incentivizes mashing and the only option you have to counter the pressure is pressure them first and it gets stale fast.
I don't play either of the games so frankly I could care less who comes for me. I mainly play team fighters like marvel versus Capcom or dbzf. Looking forward to the League of Legends game. I'm speaking from a spectator/fan. I watch a lot of fgc content. It's basically my version of football. And there is a lot of hype around the new Tekken and I tried. Trust me I tried watching but Lord it's worse right? Then the new mortal Kombat to watch. If the commenters weren't telling me what's going on I would assume there's literally no strategy involved other than hoping you get a good hit and how many times can I bounce them off the ground into the wall. When I watch soul Calibur I can clearly see what's going on the strategy and skill and they are similar games but one is fun to watch and one is trash. I mean I watched one of my favorite TH-cam guys get to one of the highest ranks in Tekken by mashing one button the entire time. Try that shit and any other fighting game and it would never even come close to happening
SoulCal = TikTakTow Tekken = Sudoku They're just different, I have both. If sc6 had a better lobby system I'd have given it a harder try. 2b was fun, but I'll always be a knightmare stan

Namco killed the game like they usually do. The community has kept it going for all these years.
Hate the changes made to guard impact in 5 & 6. If they gonna make a 7 it needs to have the original gi system & quit dumbing down the movelists.
