Twenty One Pilots recently wrapped up 2022 with the nationwide ICY Tour! Sweetwater got a fascinating tour of playback engineer Koley Bolen’s rig hosted by TJ Bechill, the co-founder of NEAT Audio and a longtime part of the band’s support staff. At heart, Twenty One Pilots is a duo composed of Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun, but meticulous playback engineering like what you’ll see here puts slick backing tracks just a few clicks away via Josh Dun‘s rig at any time. Additionally, the playback rig sends essential timecode to lighting, pyro, video, and stage technicians who can lock-in timing for multimedia shock and awe. For roughly 10 years, Bechill has worked with Sweetwater to supply mountains of gear that make tours like this possible. Check it out!

I understand the audio signalflow 100% but I don't understand the MIDI side of things. How do they switch and how is the signal distributed. In the end most devices have one MIDI Input/Output. If someone could share their thoughts on this I'd be delighted.

What is the latency with this system? +I wonder if their ableton session is programmed the same way Anomalie did it...

I'm curious about the controller that was hooked up to the computer? They didn't mention it at all.

If you're talking about the thing in the middle with the sliders, that's called an oaktone slide duo! i just had to go searching for the name cause i saw it a while ago and forgot what it's called

Would have loved more focus on Ableton Live as that’s the main magic. You could learn so much more and replicate their styles with a DAW then trying to buy all their fancy expensive gear
