I lived in Astoria for a year and I absolutely loved it. The camping, the bike ride, visiting Long Beach, WA, and the many friendly residents that invited me into their home and livelihood. Because of the military, I had to leave beautiful Astoria. I will have to pay a visit someday.
I am so grateful everyday that I live here. But the rain and gloom is a little too much for me and I do take my D3. I just think it is a near perfect town. Not boring at all. The beaches and forests are divine.
I travelled as a Salesman and drove through Astoria often. I've never lived there but if I had an opportunity to live there I would. Beautiful location.
I am getting ready to move to the Oregon coast Astoria Oregon keeps calling me I am a single mom and we are starting over I can't wait thanks for all your videos to make it easy for me
Thanks I am coming with my spirit partner and son with 4 fur babes,,I can't get out there fast enough,, finance may I ask what or how easy it would be with a decent dual income family and other forms of income once we get there and the housing market right now,, would it be fairly easy to find a nice home especially using a VA my spirit partner is a veteran??? Right now we're building a camper and getting everything ready to go and that's a good home until we get home and skies the limit right 👍,, thanks either way take care
I've been doing some research on coastal towns to make my first move to, and I've been sleeping on Astoria. When I finally considered it and started looking more into it, it just clicked with me. The feel is something I've been looking for. Nothing huge like a city which brings me anxiety, and not too small that is boring like where I'm living right now. The only drawback for me is finance since I'm in Arkansas and homes are more affordable here, and it would be my first move out of parent's home. But I'm slowly building that budget cushion and with careful research, I'm pretty sure I can make the move successfully. Just came across the channel and it has been a big help in getting a first look at these towns. Thank you!
As someone whos looking to move from Massachusettes in the future, this seems like the kinda spot I want to go too. I love the feel and view of the town, Florida is another place in mind but Im not one for crowds and feel like I would like the feel of Astoria, deff gonna have to take a trip there. Great video
I lived there for a few months back in the nineties, I remember there being a lot of very violent kids there who loved to fight, I mean they would want to beat you up for no reason at all, just because you asked the teacher a lot of questions in class because you cared about your grade, well it was mostly poor back then, other than summertime tourists, there really wasn't any financial hope back then, hopefully it's changed now, that was a very long time ago.
I'm going to be visiting Astoria for the first time in April. I'm very weary of the big city and all of the quality of life issues they suffer from. Looking to get away from massive homeless encampments, insane crime rates, high cost of living, radical politics.. Hopefully Astoria can be an antidote to that?

Happy to see that mentioned. A few years ago, my granddaughter was their baker, a graduate of Johnson & Wales culinary school in Denver. She's moved a couple of times and is now back in Astoria.
I love hearing there are great bakeries! All the videos talk about breweries and I am over here wondering about coffee shops, bakeries and book stores! LOL
I visited in the winter and it was the most depressing, isolated, suffocating, eerie feeling I've ever had. I don't think it was just the cold, rainy gray weather which I'm used to. I'm not a fan coastal places, there is something that I dislike very strongly. And for the tourist, it's overrpriced, the food is average and service is a little snotty.
@@seedy6538 in the PNW, people can come off as cold unless you speak to them yourself. We tend to leave others alone and let them approach us! I’ve noticed this in tourism here, especially the coast where it’s gloomy. I’m from the eastern part of the state and yeah we are nice people but tend to let others approach us first before telling you our entire life story and asking about yours. 😂
This guy must not get out much. The restaurants in Astoria is overpriced tourist slop. There’s a couple of really good restaurants here though, but for the most part it’s slop on a plate.
In my experience, usually everything is better in Hawaii. 😀 One of the novelties of our wine and seafood festivals is that they are all supplied by local producers including the wine.
Who goes to any city to hike? In Seaside, you can hike over Tillamook Head, and east of Seaside you can hike up Saddle Mountain. To the south, you can hike up Neahkanie Mountain.
@@GH-oi2jf I lived in a town in Colorado where I could walk across the street and hike for days on excellent trails. Not just clear cut 3rd or even 4th grown forests. All the old growth is gone. Views are boring.
I live in Astoria and hate it. Everything is costly and traffic is hell all summer. If you have to drive more than 10 miles everyday, stay away. There are not too many GOOD employment opportunities and bums/drugs all over. It was better in the 90's. The only thing I like are the nature trails and ocean but I've seen it all so much that it doesn't thrill me much anymore. If you're a "foodie" then I would recommend it. If you want to make and KEEP your money, then look elsewhere. This is not a place for young people trying to build their future. It's a giant retirement village.
Can’t think of anything bad to say about Astoria? Didn’t live there but visited many times in the 7 years I lived in forrest grove and Portland Oregon.

430,000 for a house on the coast? LOL. Where I am it's more like 1.5 million for a CONDO on the coast. 430,000 is a bargain.
Cons.. 400k for a house? That sounds amazing. Try 500k for a beat up shack in LA, that has metal bars on the windows in gang territory.
I hear ya!! I'm looking to leave the Valley....
Might be moving to the coast for work these videos are very helpful
