    I like the D version better...better image...mostly metal...made in Japan....has aperture ring....excellant lens....I had the G lens, but didn't compare to the D, so I got rid of it. Of course if you have a D3000 or D5000 series, it's the only lens that will work.

    • @defrater9460
      @defrater9460 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @earth, I fully agree with you. I had the G and did not like it much, the hood is in the way when shooting macro and without the hood you loose contrast very quickly. So it's not a macro, at most a close-up lens. I replaced it with the D and that's a great lens, i really like it.

    I am buying a Nikon D7200 w/ the 18-200 VR 2 (my first DSLR) and I’m very interested in getting the Nikkor 60mm macro f/2.8 D to use with it, what is your opinion and what is the difference between the G and the D lens? Thank you.

    • @Eric_Rossi
      @Eric_Rossi  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +RickBSO I've actually owned both. Both are fine. The G, newer model, is better built and a bit sharper in my opinion. Much faster autofocusing if that matters as well, more silent too.

    • @Enrique-the-photographer
      @Enrique-the-photographer 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Eric Rossi : Thanks for the prompt reply Eric, i just watched a video by a guy the goes by the name "the angry photographer" he claims to be a Nikon "expert" (LOL) and he claims the opposite, that the D is far superior than the G, this stuff is very confusing, especially for someone just getting into digital photography. Maybe i should rent them both and decide which one i like better. Thanks again.

    My budget is about $300 and using Nikon DX Camera (considering this as an FX lens)
    Should I go with brand new 40mm, or wait a while for a secondhand 60mm (good condition, bought last December, with about $420 pricing)
    Thanks!

  • @paragdhungana
    @paragdhungana 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    this could be a good alternative but only on DX, as 60 mm translates to 90mm in crop format, which is a good distancce for both macro and portraits...
    but in case of fullframe, you need to be too close to the object, which might be a problem if you are shooting bugs and insects (or you wouldn't like to go too near a snake ;) )
    for true macro on FX, go for the ones in 105 mm category. nikon micro vr 105mm is very very good and very sharp ( which i own myself), but the ones from tamron and sigma in the same category are also good lenses, and much cheaper

    • @blackeesh463
      @blackeesh463 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      paragdhungana tokina 100mm kills anything in that category

    • @tanha8178
      @tanha8178 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The crop factor of crop body make the camera's sensor only take smaller part of the circle image that the lens provide. With a fullframe body with high resolution, you can just keep the same distance and crop it manually later. I use an sony Nex 5, at 7megapixel I still can crop the image and have amazing detail, providing that the lens give good quality image.

    • @paragdhungana
      @paragdhungana 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tanha8178 hmm, if you want to do all that hassle, when you have an easier alternative, then, no problem... but when you are talking about hundred of pictures, cropping them would be the last thing in your mind... :)

      But he's recommending it for weddings. 60mm is wide enough that you can be shooting details and swing around and be able to capture most moments. A 105 can't always do that.
