I get so excited when I see a screwball. I love exotic pitches lol
With the way everyone is throwing their circle changes, everyone throws a screwball now.
@Tagiau Thats just wrong... please learn pitch science
@@peterparker642 Please use whatever bs you made up and called 'pitch science' and tell me the difference between Devin Williams change and this screwball. You'll find out, just like everyone besides you already did, they're identical. Yet can't expect someone who's not even out of grade school to know that. Come back to this conversation in middle school mr spiderman.
Not sure why people stopped throwing them. Super effective
@@andrewboyce7268 I think people stopped because screwballs don't have as much movement as a normal curve, so once hitters got used to it and scouting got better meaning hitters knew what pitcher had what pitches, the screwball just got less viable. It just became a less effective curveball that broke the other way. Super unfortunate though, I think it is an incredibly effective one percent pitch.
Was NOT expecting you to side-by-side Gronk and Kelce. Cracked me up.
Great to see Honeywell finally healthy and in the big leagues...it took awhile but I always hoped that he and that screwball would make it
Great to see the screwball back. Knucklers next!
we also got a new forkballer as well.
Love the Moments of Zen, they always get me when I need a laugh. Great content as usual, thanks Ninja
Sonny gray was definitely having a Sonny day yesterday
would’ve been better if he pitched in a Sonday
….
@@nick_noel🤨😬😬
Just reminded me of the Bret Michaels promo
I see what you did there 😅
My favorite Channel on TH-cam. I can remember when changeups generally between 81 and 83 miles an hour LOL.
I love this TH-cam channel. Focusing on the pitching is where it’s at.
The last screwballer left. Carrying on the Mike Marshall legacy. Crazy it’s just coming out.
These videos are fun to watch. I love good pitching
1:35 Never seen a catcher just point where they want the ball lol, but it worked on Ohtani so I guess it's a good idea
Great video keep it up
The screwball is just a devastating pitch when its done well. I could never get mine to break properly.
The headline lead me to believe there would be a video of someone throwing a screwball.
Great vid
Worst opening pitch would have to be when (i think) a hockey player threw the ball at a photographer’s…um… bat.
Ask Fernando Valenzuela how he threw the screwball. He threw the best. Whenever Valenzuela threw the screwball, he didn't push off the rubber with his back leg. He would just step down with his front leg... and let his back foot slide outwardly to the side. This way the screwball becomes an "all-arm" pitch. Why? Because the screwball is an off-speed pitch. Not creating a "pushing off the mound" forward force on the screwball gives the slowerspeed spinning ball "time" to create the outward movement. The grip is having the thumb, index and middle fingers on one side- the inside part of the ball. My recommendation is not twist the pitching arm when releasing (don't wanna hurt your elbow)... but pull downward with the hand on the top inside part of the ball with emphasis on the middle finger pulling down... creating a spin opposite of the slider. You might try putting the thumb on the side of the ball in your grip rather than under the ball like in a fastball grip. The ring and baby finger is not part of the grip having the fingers under the ball or sticking straight up. Not an easy pitch to master... but once you do, it's a winner.
Sonny Gray…yet another pitcher my Cincinnati Reds gave away.
He's erratic. He sucked with the Yankees as well. Small market pitcher.
I feel like we need a new term for these changeups like how they are differentiating between sweeper and slider.
Yep. I agree
Changeups are usually differentiated by grip not by movement, so we'd have to relabel all changeups based on movement profile rather than grip.
I used to throw a screwball, it just came naturally because of my delivery that causes my wrist to pronate right or left. 🙂
I love that overlay.
THANK YOU
What's up everybody!😂 si, qué hubo amigo!
The Screwball is the devil lol
Man, why is it so hard to throw the first pitch 🤣
President Bush not only got it across the plate, he threw a strke.
@nomobo That was a great pitch! But still fuck Pres. Bush 🤣
The way to improve baseball is to lower the seam of the baseball a *smidge* and deaden the ball a *smidge*. There are far too many swing and misses resulting in home runs or strikeouts. The best part of baseball is gone. The game was better with more contact and less home runs, hit and runs, hitting behind the runner, bunting to sacrifice, etc. 18 strikeouts and 6 home runs a game is part of what makes baseball a borefest. They addressed the 45 seconds between pitches problem (a good thing finally), but the home run or strikeout metric is terrible.
How the hell is it even possible to throw a 94 MPH “Change up”?
That pitch you have on the link is a circle/OK change!
I had a feeling the screwball grip and motion would be similar to a leg break in cricket
I really think that in a few years the Marlins pitching will be really good with Sandy, Edward, Eury Perez and Trevor Rogers to if he can really figure it out
I agree!
@Fonfons luzardo best fantasy pickup
Haha, you really think they’re all going to be on the Marlins in a few years? Everyone good to ever be on the Marlins seems to leave.
I was at the Braves game and I was screaming at my dad that Honeywell threw a screwball and he didn’t believe me until he saw it
Id call that at 1:12 a 2-seem/split finger wiith absurd break. Ridiculous how it bends out but also down but slighly opposite curve like a screw. Alien for sure
Jordan cracks me up. Maybe he never threw of the mound before.
call the screwball White Castle special a Triple Whopper With Cheese!
That one reliever throwing 100+ cheeze that was snapping right at the plate. How the heck do you hit sickness like that?
Honeywell is using the late, great Mike Marshall's screwball grip.
There's often extracurriculars involved with spike ball.
My gosh John Wall lol
in terms of movement, what's the difference between the screwball and 2-seamer?
Screwballs traditionally break horizontally to the right if you are right handed pitcher and left for left. It usually does more horizontal breaking but the pitcher in this video went vertical a lot
That’s a change up
Trav looks like he would’ve had some heat on it had he not released it into the nether realm 😅
Love your videos! Where is the screwball segment (timestamp)? Thanks!
5:29
Guess the spider tack is back
Quibo chavalos!
that shadow at the twins field seems way worse than other stadiums, even on The Show its damn near impossible to hit midday
Kelce's pitch would have been great on a cricket field!
never heard a screwball described that way 'opposite curveball' must be customized pitch
Screwball in 2023. Thank you Honeywell!
Are 4 seamers a thing?
Not a change at 94. That’s more like a cutter. JS
you should do the college and high school bit again
You really need to talk about Trevor Bauer'S work with the Baystars
🤔...they all look like fastballs to me...😁
A 94 running pitch isn’t a change up it’s just a 2 seamer
What exactly is a sweeper anyway? I'm seeing that term pop up this year.
A breaking ball designed to go mostly horizontally, usually using seam-shifted wake. sports.yahoo.com/hes-throwing-a-what-the-sweeper-is-mlb-latest-pitching-weapon-dodgers-yankees-220657765.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAAXgzKegE4NRXdsiTp1IB_RndW0CK7wJz2DIwysLezTGo4zroHnPRgVS8ejdP6lv0jMPfc3PzeZ0uJqUrojckr9FNOW3pSoTSwp0MZINckiXvC-SYaxUmdQV_UwgT8ORLQZfPb6KF5_En9dJBnS5B-E5UQ3sCs7C3m-3DO7Z9Igw
Slurve
kelce only knows how to spike balls (or throw picks)
A lot of Ks! Un montón de ponchados
Sonny Gray looked like some pinball shit on this outing
I'm placing that bet now
Good luck!
That screwball was just disgusting...Love it.
What is a "sweeper"? If your going to make up new pitches, itd be nice to have your definition of them. Thanks m8.
No Matt brash spinning Jose to the dirt or was that a different day?
Duuuude...that was opening day! th-cam.com/video/0YGZxBYTD1c/w-d-xo.html
Glad to see screwballs coming back a bit. The superstition there is unhealthy. It’s scientifically no worse for pitchers than a fastball is.
the two seamers from yesterday were some of the best ive seen in a long time. absolutely gross
a couple months ago nobody ever or very rarely used the word 'sweeper' now *everybody* is calling hard lateral breaking sliders sweepers.
It's been around MLB teams and pitchers for a while and called that. It just hasn't been talked about as much on broadcasts because Statcast just started officially using the pitch type.
Kelce only knows how to spike the ball. Cte is rough man.
Not the worst first pitch by an athlete simply because his form looked like someone throwing a baseball. Hey sometimes we all spike one.
100% Definitely moves like he knows how to throw pretty well. Probably tried to hard to throw gas
@@PitchingNinjaVideos That's what I was thinking. Was looking like when my first base ass tries to throw 90 lol
Surprised you didnt call this a reverse sweeper.
Only seen this is wii sports
Looks like a circle change... what am I missing?
It's a screwball. He also has a separate changeup. www.milb.com/news/brent-honeywell-s-screwball-a-bloodline-deal-114337918
Braves still blew them up
People have known about his screwball for 2 years
Or 5 years. twitter.com/PitchingNinja/status/955422084301287424?s=20
4:02 that’s a weird heat map for a lefty power hitter. Usually the opposite.
Previous Picks of the Day - 3-Leg SGP+
Z. Wheeler 7+ K: Incorrect
H. Green 8+ K: Incorrect
L. Gilbert 5+ K: Correct
Result: Loss (-100)
Hope he doesn’t get injured pitching screwballs….
LGM⚾️⚾️⚾️
i really do not like the sweeper nomenclature.
It's not going away. It's the terminology that MLB Teams/Pitchers are using.
Day 1 of telling Pitching Ninja he looks like Justin Verlander
I wish! [LOL I usually get Serj from System of a Down]
Romano gets no respect... Dude has 4 saves already and not 1 mention
most slept on closer in the league
Olama had one of the worst first pitch!
I know it’s really early but who has been the most impressive pitcher so far? I'm saying Senga. His stuff is absolutely disgusting.
Love Senga's stuff. Ohtani would be up there. Also, Dustin May as far as pure stuff. Luzardo has been really good. And of course, Sandy.
Connor McGregor’s was pretty bad
Stop calling sliders, sweepers.
They’re essentially the same pitch.
A lot of pitches these days are just a variation of another. Just like a Cutter is a variation of a 2-seam.
MLB the Show (the video game) doesn’t even bother to put the Sweeper in the game. They just call it a Slider….because that’s basically what it is.
i like seeing pro athletes from other sports throw the first pitch cuz they always try to put too much heat on it lol. Conor's was terrible. Dude is the worst.
Thats not a forkball silly. Forkballs are slipped between middle and ring. That is a splitter. I know you know that. So why lie about it?? Come now me son.
