A spectacular ending! A tribute to Dr. Eugene Shoemaker (1928 - 1997) , renowned geologist, and founder of the Astrogeology Science Center. Upon his death in an automobile accident, some of his ashes were taken on a lunar mission and scattered on the moon.
Shoemaker is dedicated to Eugene Shoemaker an Astro biologist. His earliest desire was to become an Astronaut but a medical condition prevented this. When he was tragically killed in a car accident in Australia, NASA offered to transfer his ashes to the moon which duly happened. Shoemaker remains the only human who’s been “buried” on the moon. The operatic part towards the end is the rocket blasting off from Earth carrying Shoemaker to his final resting place - it’s beautiful symbolism. Unfortunately the audio recording on the virtual concert wasn’t the best they have performed this throughout the summer live and there are much better recordings - the album recording of this song is tear jerkingly beautiful go have a listen as it’s a lyric video
Thank you. We'll be sure to check it out. I (mouse man) am the son of one of the people from NASA that helped put him there. Such an honor to their memory. Thank you and God bless. P.S. Max enjoying his fame well?
Live at Hellfest 2022. This song is around halfway through the show. It is incredible and epic at the same time. Y'all should do that concert on your live streams. You could do two songs per live stream until you finish the concert and at the end when they come back out to take a bow, then Floor steps up to the mic and sings the most beautiful thing my ears have ever heard.
I don't care which one but live this song is SO damn powerful. I was lucky enough to see this live at a festival this Summer, it was the hottest day of the year, but this gave everyone goosebumps. 🤘🏽
I must say experiencing this live was one of the most amazing moments I have ever experienced in concert. I have a video of the operatic resolution to this song on my channel. It was my first Nightwish concert... So beautiful!
You are correct about Shoemaker Levy 9 but this song is dedicated to Eugene Shoemaker's ashes being buried on the Moon in a casket engraved with the spoken words from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet engraved on it. This was because he also tracked meteorite landings on the Earth and the Moon and helped with the Apollo landings.
Yes, all done with green screen. Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet quote is voiced by Johanna Kurkela, Tuomas' wife. I think it is inscribed on the urn sent to the moon with Eugene' Shoemakers ashes. Your first look at Jukka Koskinen on bass. Laudato Si - Praised be , Ad Astra - to the stars. They are playing this on the current tour (Hellfest and Deichbrand 2022) , along with Noise, Tribal, and How's the Heart from the current album.
Eugene was a Geologist & Astronomer. They call him the Father of planetary science. The only human with remains on another planetary body. NASA sent some of his ashes to the moon, with the inscription from Romeo & Juliette on the Urn. They did a good job bringing their fans a live concert experience during lockdown. Then performing with no audience and in a completely green screened room and performing well live. I bought tickets for both nights as it was a super experience. Fans were in discord chat rooms etc all enjoying it together- was so cool.
Another of Tuoma's masterpieces in terms of lyrics and music. With Floor as an exelent soprano, Tuomas has in his hands a human instrument with her great vocal potential where he can indulge his great creativity and talent.
I know that this were recorded a couple of hours before they sent it live - but still it was the first time Floor made that incredible ending live - and also Troy doing his magic on the E-bow. And they have improved since this - nowadays it is so close to the perfect performance that's almost unbelievable. I think it is incredible how Nightwish are growing better and better, while it shouldn't be possible. But they do! 👍 🤘 🤘
One of my top 5 Nightwish songs. Concur with other to checkout the lyric video. The visual throughout it are stunning and the ending is oh so more epic. Because of the pandemic the band couldn't tour in support of the album so they made high quality lyric videos for every song from the album. The Song is a tribute to Eugene Shoemaker, one of the founder of the field of planetary science. He specialized in the study of impact craters both here and on the moon. After his death, because he had been medically disqualified from becoming an Apollo astronaut, a portion of his ashes were placed in a capsule on the Lunar Prospector mission and then delivered to the crater on the moon named for Shoemaker. Part of the lyrics that I love are written from the perspective of Shoemaker on the moon looking back at Earth, "Now you are tucked in for eternal earthrise and wonder". The spoken word part is a quote from Rome and Juliet and is inscribed on Shoemaker's capsule containing his ashes and is voiced by Tuomas's wife Johanna Kurkela. One thing to note is that Floor was unhappy with the final operatic part in the studio and came home and continued to perfect it until she was happy with it and that is the version that is on the album. With the syncopation and vocal jumps in the beginning as well as the operatic part Floor initially said that they might not be able to do this live but obviously they perfected and it is a hit on the current tour. I think this has replaced Everdream as the hardest song for Floor to sing. You should checkout Tuomas, Troy, and Johanna's side project Auri. Johanna is an amazing singer and is involved in a lot of additional projects including Altamullan Road, and Eye of Melian, both of which are worth checking out as well. I worked at NASA in Houston on the ISS for 15 years and for me this song is more than a tribute to Shoemaker but is also an ode to our human need to explore and to push out into the universe. I hope this song continues to inspire people to support and be involved with Human Spaceflight.
Wow that is too cool, thank you so much...what an awesome job. So does that mean he is the only human that is buried somewhere other than the earth? Incredible indeed!
This piece of music comes to life at both the Deichbrand 2022, or Hellfest 2022 venue. At Deichbrand, it's performed at night, while at Hellfest, performed right at sunset. Both are of epic proportion and worth checking out. I remember watching the virtual concert live during Covid, it was the best we could ask for during all the lockdowns, and it was the first time any of us could see it performed live for the first time since the album was released just as the Covid situation came busting into our lives.
Yes, I agree. Loved this during COVID-19. Was really happy they did this concert. Watched it together at home with family members. Live it is even better. Warm greetings from The Netherlands
Eugene Shoemaker, planetary geologist, hoped to be an astronaut and examine rocks on the moon, but he was not fit for that. After he died, his ashes were brought to the moon, that is what this song is about, an eternal grave under the stars.
The detail in this VR world is incredible. And it is impossible to see that the performers are actually in different locations, their interactions seem like they are together. I love when they hit the heavy part of this song, really gives me goosebumps (or the fizz...) and the outro is an amazing vocal extravaganza. Stay safe, God bless, keep rocking.
Man wish you guys had done the hellfest version. This show is just weird with no people it was great to have it in the middle of Covid but still better with people and the atmosphere
A virtual show ❤️, the first show where the new bass player were in. Jukka did such an good job. That show was also my first live show, even I was on my own couch🤣, for in yrs...first show I was able to watch. I had started healing about four months earlier. No, I'm not completely cured, and I never will be, but I found music again. It carries a lot on bad days and it in my life now everyday. Thx for this reaction you are awesome ❤️👍❤️
The man knows his stuff! I don't know if you guys will be able to see it but, tonight is the full Beaver moon. By 4:00 am tomorrow morning it will be a full blood moon followed by a lunar eclipse. Should be pretty spectacular!
I've seen them do it at Hellfest and Deichbrand and they're both great, but this one's my favourite version of this masterpiece. Floor's vocals are just breath-taking here and Troy's e-bow sounds almost other worldly. Goosebumps time with this one. Love it 👍🤘🔥
I watched someone react to the studio version yesterday. I didn't want to burn out on the song, so I intended to simply drop in to give you a like and then move on. But when I saw it was the Virtual World version I stuck around for the whole time. 👍🌠✨
For the 2 Virtual concerts (May 2021) they created a very dynamic Steam Punk inspired virtual world and venue to play in, with a Lighthouse at the edge of the world, named The Islanders Arms. The world also including a blimp Airship named "Spirit of Punk". I think it was all inspired by the lyrics of "The Islander" . Nightwish Thank You / short behind the scenes look at the making of these 2 live Virtual Concerts. Thanks for this stellar reaction with interesting information about Shoemaker Levy etc.. P.S. They had already recorded Floor's vocals for this song & were about to take the audio tracks for mixing & mastering, but Floor being a perfectionist, she decided to give yet another go with the operatic vocals at the end. So she did it at her home studio using an audio track with also the choir on it to get her vocals perfect and just the way she wanted.
Comet Shoemaker-Levy was named after Eugene's wife, Carolyn, who identified many interstellar bodies, like comets, planettes etc. She survived the car crash in Australia that killed her husband, and died just about 1y ago...
Tuomas loves trees. You see it in this greenscrene, On Noice he's playing on a pianotree, on stage he's use often an treelike keyboard stand. I like that very much.
🤩👍💥💯 Must have been somewhat "awkward" to play a gig(Or 2) for the audience what's not physically present. Like a training session yet there was actually a world wide audience on the other side of the screen. May THE force be with You all... 🤘😎🇫🇮💙
This virtual concert was also the introduction of Jukka as the new bass player. But as a few people already mentioned, there are a lot better live versions of this song and the lyrics video is very good. 🫶🤘
as a comparison you should also do a Live version with the reaction of the public like the one from : Nightwish - Shoemake Live Hellfest 2022 . link : th-cam.com/video/pYIX1Jyb64E/w-d-xo.html . no matter how many times i watch this video SHE gets me EVERY time and I'm crying again
Amazing they were able to do this song live, as it was not composed for that. And although Nightwish is best to be consumed live, this song is for me the exception. the official clip is stunning and ending with a view from Shoemaker’s last resting place on the moon to a earthset followed by a sunset, accompanied by Floor’s voice.❤
Let's say that you should ALWAYS do your homework before watching Nightwish's music videos. Your experience and understanding of the song is so much much better.
@@2ndhandsoulsmusic Thats strange. This pic i did have before. And than i did change it to things i make. But i did not change it back. Maybe TH-cam did it .But its ok. Thank you it will be great to watch it ❤
That virtual Concert was great, but you should also check out those the one by Epica (Omega Alive) and by Within Temptation. Both pre-recorded and not "live" like Nightwish's, but great as well.
When the record was released 2020 Tuomas said they will not do this live, is so difficult. The response from the fans was so overwhelmed so they decided to take it on the setlist. Sadly there are songs from this album they haven't done live like Procession which is my favorite from the album.
Shoemaker taught the Apollo astronauts, which rocks to look for,and he was to go to moon in later missions, found out he had medical problems couldn't go, he's the only human remains on the moon, his ashes were in a plobe sent to the moon😊
Although I prefer the official lyric video, I enjoy your reaction. Another Nightwish' s song you have to make a research first in order to understand it completely. Stay healthy, hot and heavy! Greetings from Greece!
Criminal that Nightwish did not have an "real" audience in the room to react to that the first time they played Shoemaker live. But maybe the crowd would have been stunned into complete silence by the Floor finale!
The operatic vocals at the end were Laudato Si - Ad Astra. This translates to "Praise to the Stars". If Shoemaker-Levy hit the earth we would probably not be watching you react to this song. In fact this song may never have been written. It may have been comparable to the Chicxulub event that wiped out the dinosaurs 65 million years ago?
Planetary Geologist, Eugene Shoemaker, he was training to be an astronaut, but medical reasons prevented that. I think he was involved in the Apollo missions. Comet Shoemaker-Levi 9, July 16 through July 22, 1994, those multiple impacts from the disintegrating comet, wow! th-cam.com/video/p7RP2SW_gSw/w-d-xo.html Jupiter the protector, the Great Red Spot. Philips Dad! Great to hear some info close to the source :) Floor soaring away into the heavens.
Floor said it was like performing in a green bathroom! I hope they could see some of the magical graphics whilst they were playing, if not, how did they cope, with so little feedback from surroundings, without an audience?
Take the plunge and listen to these bands, don't wait. THE WARNING = 3 sisters from mexio rock band started their career on youtube! today they just get bigger and bigger, they make all their music themselves, incredibly good band The Warning - EVOLVE (Live Session ). Bandmaid = They rule !! BAND-MAID / DOMINATION (Official Live Video)
For me this one is already a true NW classic, but mainly because of Floor's operatic "Laudato Si" (reference to St. Francis of Assisi’s prayer, “The Canticle of the Creatures.”). You guys just did "Gethsemane", so you might recognize a pattern here: Tuomas again using religious references to create art. I've tried very hard to also love the main first part of the song, but I failed. For me, the rub is with the peculiar sensation of lyrics being pressed into the mould of a vocal line that doesn't suit the words (great message there for sure.. as txt). The phrasing/flow is needlessly compromised and near impossible to pull off i.m.o due to this forced fit and comes off as unnatural. During live performances, Floor makes light of this by inviting the crowd to join in this "sing-along". Troy improved quite a bit on backing vocals since this virtual live concert. Floor having to place emphasis in odd places, just to keep some sort of rhythm going prevents me from getting into it & really feel the song. Normally her strong suit is storytelling and here she has to work wonders to get the words out in the first place. She pulls it off magnificently, like only Floor can do. But when she gets to 2:58 "No-how you-hoo'v been tu-ucked-in-fór .. etc", I'm almost annoyed abt Floor being force-fed these extremely un-flowing lyrics/melody line. Sure, Tuomas said he wanted to challenge Floor. Challenge met with flying colours, but for me the song is saved and elevated to a true NW classic by the grand finale, which for personal reasons has a very special place in my heart. Cheers from Amsterdam! 🤘
Great you've made it to the new album now. I also recommend you check out the live (in a virtual world) version of Noise: th-cam.com/video/LrV-8eXEVd4/w-d-xo.html The song Tribal is also excellent.
🇬🇧 Norfolk reporting for duty let’s fizz The spoken piece is Johanna Tuomas wife , shoemaker has his ashes on the moon and those words were on his urn written by Shakespeare. Add Astra ( praise to the stars )
Brilliant.
Next from Human:Nature HAS to be Music. And it HAS to be the lyric video. I just love that song.

Thank you so much for the information and translation. God bless.
Shoemaker ashes are in the moon so therefore the earthrise
Planetary Geologist, Eugene Shoemaker, he was training to be an astronaut, but medical reasons prevented that.
I think he was involved in the Apollo missions.
Comet Shoemaker-Levi 9, July 16 through July 22, 1994, those multiple impacts from the disintegrating comet, wow!

Floor said it was like performing in a green bathroom!
I hope they could see some of the magical graphics whilst they were playing,
if not, how did they cope, with so little feedback from surroundings, without an audience?
Take the plunge and listen to these bands, don't wait.
THE WARNING = 3 sisters from mexio rock band started their career on youtube! today they just get bigger and bigger, they make all their music themselves, incredibly good band

Dude in the back .. I've seen that face and voice before .. some really heavy Hawaiian ..

Welcome
I have exactly that same feeling. Very nicely put.
And ever since I heard your personal story. I think of her as well every time I hear this song. 🫶🙏💫
Lol
If you like storms, maybe check out Gentle Storm (Arjen Anthony Lucassen and Anneke Giersbergen).
You mean his wife ? .......and he was a planetary geologist .... but yes an accomplished scientist.

Why doesn't JUKKA play in situations like this ..?
Because he is not a band member anymore and did not record this album?
The new Jukka is on Bass... Kai on drums (both from Wintersun).
