    4 years ago I started treatment for stage 3c rectal sigmoid cancer using the same chemo Dan was taking (FOLFOX and Xeloda). I had a large tumor. The FOLFOX chemo is tough. I was fortunate that my cancer had only spread to my lymph nodes and not to any organs. I was close to Stage 4. Dan was at Stage 4. I was very lucky. I had a sigmoidoscopy after two cycles of chemo and the tumor had shrunk dramatically. After 8 cycles it had almost completely disappeared and changed into scar tissue. The chemo drove my platelets down to a very low level. And the neuropathy in my feet and hands had become very significant. So chemo was halted. I then started 6 weeks of daily chemo radiation. then I had an 8 hour surgery, including a temporary ostomy. It’s been 4 years and I’m still cancer free. My treatments were during Covid and there were no support groups. So I turned to TH-cam. This is when I discovered Dan. I have significant side effects that I live with daily, but I am alive. I found Dan’s optimism, hopefulness and calm demeanor to be very uplifting. I’m sorry Dan didn’t survive longer, but his fight was certainly inspiring to me and I know many others as well. Thanks Dan.

      It's great you had it diagnosed at an earlier stage and 4 years later here you still are, I hope that trend continues for a very long time. It illustrates very well the huge difference an earlier diagnosis can make.

    • @roch145
      @roch145 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@brendandoherty2159 I think the genetic makeup of my tumor made it more susceptible to the chemotherapy. My tumor was actually very big. My surgeon called it a nasty tumor. It had spread to my lymph nodes. But fortunately not any other organs. I was on my way to a Stage 4 diagnosis. So yes it was diagnosed a bit earlier than Dan’s stage 4 tumor, but it was an advanced tumor. There’s a huge survival rate difference between Stage 4 and Stage 3C. 5 year rates being 15% vs 40-70%. And yes still hard to believe I’ve been cancer free for four years. Colon cancers are highly preventable if you get a colonoscopy when you should based on your age or symptoms. I delayed mine. If I had gotten a colonoscopy when I should have, a lot of my challenges could have been avoided. Thank you for your kind words.

      It’s not our God that makes us go thru this. We have fallen from grace but there is redemption thru Jesus.
      I went thru chemotherapy- Acute Lukemia. Didn’t know I would make it, I was infused in hospital for a whole month Sept 1, 2019 then let go home for 5 days,then again for 2 weeks straight at Hospital, at end I came out of the hospital in Summer 2020 and back for treatments until 2022. I had sepsis blood infection that almost killed me. Unstoppable Nose bleed/low platelets, neutrophils etc that almost killed me all this with other complications during the shut down.
      I also had other intrathecal chemos on my spine injected into cerebral/lumbar spinal fluid- those were hell!
      I asked God for forgiveness for all wrongs I had done to my wife and kids and everyone else around me.
      I am now working part-time after 5 years taking care of my family/wife and kids. I was almost 50 then and almost 55 now. But I do agree God decides who is to earn their wings or stays a little longer in this earth.
      Blessings and love to you and all in this channel.

I was diagnosed in oktober 2019 and saw on the internet a lot of people (beautiful, as well inside as outside, eating well, no drinking, no smoking, no drugs, running or doing other sports, men, women, lovely people i surely would have liked to have known better). My purpose is to let you know you are not alone neither : cancer just overcame us. You are 52, I was 55, many were in their 30ies, 40ies, 50ies. I hope you Will get through this. *IMPORTANT LINKS!*
    - The Fixable Back Course: www.Fixable.me This is the exact approach I use with my patients, to get them out of pain, and keep their pain from coming back. If you have low back pain and it's not going away, this approach beats the pants off everything else I've seen!
    - CBD gummies for sleep! I use the brand Hometown Hero (made right here in Austin!), and take the Peak Delta-8 Gummies: hometownhero.sjv.io/y25vBy NOTE: These are 100 mg per gummy - I split each gummy into 4 pieces (25 mg each), and only take 25 mg about an hour before bed. For me, they make me extremely relaxed, and feel like I’ve had about 3 glasses of wine. I wouldn’t take more than 25 mg at first, for sure. But they help me fall asleep faster, and stay asleep better than anything I’ve used so far!
    - My favorite hamstring stretch! If you have low back pain, start here! (And you’ll see my brother John demonstrating the stretch!): th-cam.com/video/3LbXBfJuelo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=RFcDfuLc20HxqAl0
    - Self-massage for hips & glutes (also great for low back or hip pain!): th-cam.com/video/yqG9nmEI7SQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=kj3Zm2xT4dJCjf5W

    Still here rooting for you!!! I can't believe you're still taking patients! You must indeed be feeling better than the last year. I'm back in town for a short period and considered booking an appt with you but felt guilty knowing what you're going through. But sounds like you're still engaged on that?

    Hi Dr. I was just wondering what symptoms you were having before diagnosis. I’ve been having an abrupt change in digestion and sleep patterns and I’m not sure what happened. I’m hoping you will beat the heck out of this disease, but I must admit, when you said 3 year survival rate is 30% my jaw dropped. Your cancer is going to go into full remission right? You are young and healthy. You look better than everyone I know. I’m sorry but that can’t be right.

    I thought it feels better if you know you are not the only one wearing a mask. I am vaccinated but I am still wearing a mask to protect my toddler as vaccinated people can still pass the virus along. With the delta variant, the kids are at more risk now, and of course not vaccinated yet. So, I am with you in that mask wearing.

    • @DrDanSays
      @DrDanSays  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Amin, good point! I always wear a mask when I'm with patients, even when they're vaccinated, if it makes them more comfortable. If every's vaxxed, I'll offer to let patients remove theirs if they like. Now it looks like I'll be wearing one all the time (for the time being), regardless.

      @@DrDanSays I’ve enjoyed wearing a mask! I hate the flu and all that other stuff. Especially in the grocery store and other crowded places. No sense being sick for a week after a 20 minute errand
