RM meeting his idol and having such a deep conversation with him is so amazing. i like how pharrell asked him questions too and there's so much mutual respect
Literally every comment is about RM, but can we take a second to appreciate the longevity and lifespan of Pharrell's career. He's produced some of the biggest artists on the planet for over 20 years.
RM's English is fabulous, and Pharrell is being considerate and speaking slowly and without using slang! It's like a chat between two laid-back mates, who've got no prejudices or inner boundaries! They have so much in common, in spite of their physical appearance or outfits! Their collab will definitely be cool! ✌🤩
@Lavidah I would like to add that when he realizes he's using slang he goes back to explain what he meant without bringing attention to the fact that he used a word he may not be fully familiar with. That's what I admire.
I thought it was funny pharrell thought he couldn’t curse and RM was quick to be like no our fans aren’t like that. and even started cursing to make him realize it was all good. RM is so good at relating to ppl during interviews and meeting them where they’re at.
Second languages are extremely hard to navigate when you're nervous or any kind of emotional overwhelm and I'm continuously impressed with Namjoon's ability to navigate that while still being engaging. Pharrell's patient, genuine interest as he found his words, effortless-worldly responses spoken plainly, fished from that place of wisdom and experience where legends live. This thought exchange was really one for the books. I can't wait to hear what comes of this.
Indeed! I for one find it hard to be fluent in my 2nd, 3rd languages when I'm under pressure. This interview is an example of mutual respect and admiration. I'm just happy for both of them. I've taken so much from this. 🙏🏿❤️💜
I was going to write something intelligent but then I saw this. You said it better than what I could think of. So thank you for your amazing words. I also believe in Pharrell’s kindness and patience without being patronizing to Namjoon. I haven’t seen enough of Pharrell so I don’t know how he really is. Obviously he’s a genius and can articulate it well. Obviously Namjoon is a genius too as I’ve watched him for many years. This interview is amazing.
The way Namjoon truly thinks about his answers before speaking, his eloquent words, his honesty, his humbleness, the way he actively listens to Pharrell, asks genuine questions... all of this just proves yet again that we support and love the right person Edit: For whatever reason this comment went off, so I just wanted to let you all know that I make video essays (mainly on BTS and their music right now), in case anyone is interested! 💜
Ah this is beautiful. Two superstars just sitting around chatting. It's a great platform for people to see what Namjoon is like personally and professionally, and why we love him so dearly.
I’m not part of army but I enjoy BTS casually. I didn’t realize how deep RM is. Excited to see their collab. I’m so impressed how he can discuss more complex ideas in a second language.
Oh Rm has always been deeply introspective and deep. He is incredibly reflective and often shows his vulnerabilities in his lyrics. I would recommend checking out his solo mixtape "Mono" if you'd like to know more.
One of those the things that I love about him and truly admire is how deep he can be whether he's being open and deep with his responses on weverse or through his letters to us or whether it's a live or through the lyrics of his songs. He has such deep thoughts and is not afraid to share them. I love how open he is with us.
I am an older Army, I could be RM mother but I am so impressed by his intellect and how he’s able to engage in the conversation on the same level as his idol, speaking so truthfully about his feelings about everything. You can see how Pharrell has a great respect for Namjoon and recognize his peer. I think that is wonderful.
More need to be like him..unfortunately the ones that are out is berating women..dogging them out..they obviously have no boundaries or respect for themselves or have low emotional intelligence..or even slow to develop their true character..
I am an older ARMY as well. (could also be his mom) I absolutely agree with what you've said. I really appreciated watching both of them respect each other as colleagues, and all each other real questions, and give real answers as well.
I love it when I come across older ARMYs cuz once there was a Twitter post about an ARMY talking about how she couldn't stream due to morning class and the replies were all like "yo, you could miss school EASILY." "Just slack out, who cares?" And the ARMY replied "I'M THE ONE TEACHING THE CLASS!" 🤣 it was so unexpected and funny!
You can tell Pharrell was blown away by a lot of RM's questions. These two aren't just "celebrities", they're artists of their craft. And it definitely shows.
From namjoon sampling Pharrell's song in Do You of his first mixtape to collaborating with Pharrell on his solo debut album this is huge, so proud of rm and thank you pharrell for working with our leader !!
This interview really is quite deep .. ... when you really pay attention to RM speak. In these few minutes you can really hear the insecurities and worries that he has hidden within. He speaks with so much confidence yet becuase he is nervous you can still feel how those insecurities still creep on him. This was a very intresting yet emotion filled interview. I felt like crying during the whole interview. Beautifully done RM&Pharrel. It is very rare to experience RM so raw with his emotions.
I'm really glad you shared this because I felt emotional, too - seeing Joon being so open and vulnerable with one of his idols was powerful.Thinking of where he came from and his past insecurities and seeing of where he is now is so profound, but it seems like he is even in awe of his success. Such a humble, beautiful human being!💜
Yes you said it right .at 20:53 RM was about to say TIRED But held back .This hurts my heart .I know every BTS member worked hard but Namjoon was performing two duties one as band member and the second as BTS leader ,handling all the interviews and stuff. He must be under a lot of pressure. English is not my first language so I was not able to put into words my feelings
Yes, this was so Beautiful and emotional. My teenage daughter said she read it an I encouraged my son to listen to it as he also raps. When he refraised the word "Tired" 💔
@@sindyiathakur5507 Yes, I noticed he held back too. But I understand, even if he did just say "tired". I always wondered if it bothered him handling all the interviews and stuff. Just seemed like it'd be overwhelming.
When Pharrell started the metaphor about pain being paint and how you make art by filling in the gaps with emotions and color, I knew that RM was with someone who understood him. What a refreshing, honest, and interesting interview on both of their ends. 💜
i had the same thought! they seem to have connected on so many fronts and that made the flow of the conversation seamless (especially on the longer podcast version!) so refreshing to watch, just like you said.
I'm not even a BTS fan but I need another hour of this. Namjoon seems like such a genuine person despite being at the height of fame anyone could hope to be at. And Pharrell is Pharrell. Always class. Enjoyed this interview a lot
@@RealTaIk Because I don't live under a rock? I'm not a fan of The Rock but I still know his birth certificate doesn't say First Name: The, Last Name: Rock And I'm Korean, you numb nuts. Their names are plastered everywhere for me to see. And oh - in the comments section of this video. Use your brain
@@seihyuni "I'm korean" so what lol. Knowing the birth name of an artist without being a fan of them is nuts and calling them by their birth name is even 10 times weirder. Nobody calls eminem by their birth name besides stans but I guess you are just a fan and not a stan xD
@@RealTaIk You're in denial. I don't listen to BTS at all. You asked me how I knew the name. Everyone knows Eminem is Marshall Mathers. Go to bed "RealTalk". Instead of spewing all this "Nonsense"
When you consider that RM initially learned English from watching Friends, it's amazing how articulate he is in this language. RM's lyrics and musical artistry and skills in mentoring and leading the music phenomenon that we know as BTS have healed me on a personal basis and have also blessed the lives of an entire worldwide ARMY. Both men are obviously deep thinkers and it was awesome to see them both as interviewer and interviewee.
Yes! His English is still a bit broken but it's mostly just grammatical errors, it's still understandable, and he speaks rather eloquently with his language. Especially considering he's unscripted here, it's so impressive. He really draws you in and makes you anticipate what he's going to say. I could listen to him talk all day.
RM also went to high school in New Zealand for a semester/6 months. (Also I think most Koreans study English in school although this isn't the best instruction.)
I love Pharrell for being so calm, kind and so supportive towards RM. Such professionalism and maturity can only come from his own experiences of working in music. I hope RM will continue to be surrounded by great musicians - who not only produce good music but with good intentions too.
@@donatienbrochard3613 Nobody is 'questioning' his kindness but personally I do question your emotional maturity as well as your intelligence, or at least your reading comprehension.
Pharell is actually this kind of person :) Also they are both in that position where they really appreciate other artists , and understand things in this industry 🖤
I'm glad we get to see a RM in a more personal way than I think we've really seen him before. You can tell they both admire and respect each other throughout this interview. Thanks Rolling Stone.
Yes! I have listen 3 times on the podcast interview he did for the Art Basel just for his voice and thoughts on art. Same feeling for me during this interview.
@@borapobangpo it is still different though. Certain fears and anxiety RM has only brought up this year…like being exhausted with his role in the band and not knowing who he is (diplomat? Artist? Just the translator for interviews?etc..for example) and searching for it or what the band stands for anymore….these are things he was not as vocal about in the past. All of BTS have have been transparent this year in a way they havent been in the past. Also in Vlives and concerts…he is talking to the fans. Whereas here he is talking to a veteran and fellow artist who he looks up to and is asking advice from. It’s a different vibe.🙈 We dont always see BTS having convos like this with other artists outside of just themselves. It also reminds me of IU and J-hope interview…we saw a different side to J-hope speaking with a senior of his. It’s nice seeing more sides to them.☺️
Sadly the interviews that they had to do in the US are mostly shallow and frankly dumb, but some for RS and another outlet (Esquire maybe?) were ok. There are some good on their companies website called Weverse, maybe you type the words RM+ interview+Weverse and google them, otherwise you'd have to sign to the platform. He also often shares his thoughts in so called Vlives, that are also on Weverse now, but also can be found on TH-cam. There are however a ton of them, so it's a bit hard to find the ones where he'll talk how the album and songs came about.
I think these people are rare. They are calm, professional, talented, respectful, hard-working, and passionate. I hope they can fulfill what they want and always stick to who they are as artist, business men, and human. I will 200% love they're collab.
Namjoon is so articulate. I mean the way he expresses himself the way he speaks makes you wanna listen to him talk for hours. And you can literally see the passion and sparkles in his eyes whenever he talks about music & that really shows much he loves and respects music and other artists which makes me wanna respect him even more . And this is the collaboration no one could've ever imagined or expected. BTS literally shows everyone every freaking time that they are not just a "korean boy band group" they are more than that, you can't fit or restrict BTS into any category or genre. They are ARTISTS who loves to explore all kind of genres and excel in all of them. And i agree with Pharrell so much on the humble thing i mean these boys are the most humblest people i have i ever seen maybe that's what makes other artists fall for them over and over again. I am just so proud of these 7 boys they literally deserve all the recognition and love in this world. They make this world a better place to live in . We need more artist like these boys and i was never a fan of Pharrell but this interview is a start of me being a fan of Pharrell.
You described it very well... and the fact that you want to know Pharrell better, is also partly due to the fact that RM and the boys (BTS) manage to bring out the best in other artists and humanize them and lower them from that imaginary "pedestal" of big stars. I'm glad for this new collaboration, I'll be looking forward to it.💜👌🏻
RM is a deep thinker - highly intelligent, insightful, and observant person with an abstract and analytical mindset. I am glad that he have been surrounded with many inspiring people around him, who can help him in finding his true self. I know nothing of his struggles but I want him to know that we will be supporting him and it is okay to be afraid. I really cannot wait for his debut. It’s gonna be epic! Also, let’s talk about his look here. KIM NAMJOON YOU LOOK SO FINE.
I agree. Every moment I listen to him, see him, or even her about something he has said or has been through in past, I'm just head over heels for this man..😍
Thank you Rolling stone for bringing Namjoon and Pharrell together for this. It is truly pleasing to see RM in this light, being so freely expressive about his art and his love for his work. The way he thinks about everything he wants to say before answering each question, and the way he reveals himself to us through this is so touching
I’m so excited for RM exploring new frontiers as an artist - I’m glad he brought the last question up and Pharrell’s answer comes with a lifetime of experience. When you’re young it’s easy to think you know everything and nothing and it can get uncomfortable when you’re used to doing something at such a high level so well. RM too is like the Astronaut exploring new creative frontiers to express himself. I know you’ll all agree that we will continue to be the wind beneath his wings wherever his journey takes him 💜
"we will continue to be the wind beneath his wings wherever his journey takes him." wow. what a beautiful way to express support. your entire comment is so lovely and i really hope he comes across it 💜
Thank you for your lovely comment...it puts together so many ideas I had but couldn't join cohesively. Your last line is so fitting... I always hope the members see the beautiful things that are written about them. Wish I could share your comment w/ other ARMY on twt. ;-) Borahae!
RM has always been someone thinking, writing, exploring and questioning, with the most humbleness. He's the most brilliant, assertive and curious one and it's heartwarming to see him explore new things though I hope he'll still belong to bts in the future, sth like home that he can go back anytime.
Namjoon presents himself as very humble in the interview. He is a leader of a Korean band with millions of followers and i sense him sitting down and asking essential questions to Pharrell whom he sees as more of a senior. And Pharrell on the other hand respects Joon for his musical identity, passion, his views of music, and BTS' achievements. its a very nice, humbling, and honest conversation between two passionate musicians. Love it, Rolling stone. Thank you for meeting them both!
that part when RM acknowledges his fans' journey traveling from all over the world just to see a BTS concert and that's why he has to "pay them back" by giving his 100% is the reason why a BTS concert never disappoints.
Although the phrase "pay them back" made me pause. Like he "owed" us something. Good friends don't need to owe each other anything. But he also says love is a two-way street. So maybe he didn't mean it in quite that way...
This interview made me realize how hungry my soul is for someone like Namjoon in my life. A brilliant friend you can have stimulating conversations with. It's no secret he is a genius but this interview was truly special to me. I love you Kim Namjoon you phenomenal man. I anxiously await your collab with Pharrell and your solo album. BTS are bigger than music they are rare treasures and I'm glad other countries are gradually realizing that.
Okay can we take a moment to thank Pharrel, he obviously went into this video knowing enough about K-Pop and BTS on a whole. He was very kind and open to hhelp help RM with his struggles as well. This interview was so insightful, loved every second.
Firstly, thank you to Pharrell for existing. He's raw, authentic, and ace. This entire sit-down was a mega eye opener for so many of us. When Namjoon paused halfway in saying he was tired, I was like "It's ok baby. You can say you're tired." He repeated that he's just a human and he's felt anxious, nervous and a huge responsibility. As an ARMY, I just wanna say that we know, we feel that weight and in a way we're sorry, but like he said, this is love. And yes we do love you and all the members. We trust you all and we believe in this. We will be here always.
Right! I know he was about to say “tired” then cut off after the “t-“ and then when he didnt say it, I was like no it’s OK it’s fine it’s not bad to say that you can say that! 😩it’s ok!❤ They are media trained so well… I guess it is hard sometimes to just say the whole raw truth and talk about things behind the masks they have to put on because of their line of work🥲🙈💜
I absolutely loved this. Their conversation was so open, raw, and honest. Such a beautiful thing. I am very glad and that thankful RM and Pharrell were able to get together and have this interview.
He probably feels bad saying it because of us. He didn't want us to think he doesn't love or appreciate what we do for BTS. He said during the Festa that he feels guilty to complain. It really broke my heart to hear that and how much stress we put on them. He always say he doesn't want to disappoint us. I wish I can tell him he doesn't have to be perfect for us. We will love him no matter what.
This is overwhelming for me. Pharrell is ultimate producer and experimental artist speaking with Namjoon about music and the creative process is just awesome. This is euphoric!
This interview was, without a doubt, one of the best I’ve ever heard. Namjoon's ability to express himself and find the right words for each type of answer, the way he carries himself is fascinating, I could listen to him talk for hours and he’ll continue to capture my attention. It was a very interesting interview, it’s very evident the passion that RM and Pharrell have for music. I can't wait to see Namjoon's new project, I have very high expectations, I mean, this is Kim Namjoon we are talking about, he’s a GENIUS at creating music. I loved it!
This is a STELLAR conversation!! I'm so happy how BTS, being such successful artists themselves, are finding artists who've achieved success and are Great at what they do, and chose to learn from each other while being candid of their own experience. Love this conversation SO MUCH!! Just heart to heart, artist to artist! This is what is here to stay, pure respect, love and adoration. RM, you make me a proud PROUD ARMY. Thank you RM and Pharrell!
I love Joon’s humility, I love how he expresses himself and puts so much thought into what he says and how he says it. I love his voice and his beautiful accent and his demeanor. I love how he dignifies others and never acts like he’s above them. I love his complex mind. Joonie, love you man! Pharrell, you did great too 👏🏻 Thank you both.
This interview shows you that RM really care about making music. Not just a rapper. But a musician. Most of people looking down of bts for just being a boyband. But they're different. I truly believe from seeing their interviews, bts is really passionate about their job as a performer and musicians, producing, writing, composing etc.
This interview between RM & Pharrell has got to be one of the deepest and intellectual conversation I've ever seen between two musicians. The questions and answers blew me away, both are so humble and passionate about music. Such an amazing interview, I didn't want it to end.
RM bring forth his real self forward and sharing his doubts and fears makes him more human than just an artist. Him channeling his feeling of nervousness, pain and anxiety to bring it all forth in his lyrics and music makes me love him even more. RM, u truly are an inspiration and someone we can learn from every single day....
I enjoyed their discussion so much that I forgot about Pharrell's knees being shinier than his boots. Hearing RM talk about the expectations he needs to fulfill for fans that travel to see them, and Pharrell referring to himself as a public servant shows how much they love and appreciate their fans and the passion for what they do. I'm really looking forward to their collab
I am so thankful to Pharrell for doing this interview with RM. It feels so good seeing Namjoon being able to express himself in a way he’ve never before. Talking ’bout his thoughts with an artist who can relate to him was probably very refreshing. I think RM really needed this. Also, I love how Pharrell gave RM the biggest advice and comfort in the end, you could see that RM really meant it when he said ”Thank You”.
I’m so happy someone is able to empathize with RMs feelings of pressure and doubt. Pharrell is such an amazing mentor and I’m so happy is was able to give RM this advice and share their experiences together. I think for a second they forgot they were doing an interview and were really in their own world just talking about music. ITS CRAZY!! i loved every minute of this video.
RM is really intelligent. the way he talk with Pharrell he like really thinks deep about it, not only did he ask random questions he ask with interest and admiration. Both of them talks with respect, such an inspiration.💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Like Pharell said, the impact BTS have on our lives is beyond what they could imagine, and must be scary and heavy. I'd add, it's beyond what WE could imagine too, as fans. I'm 33 and had never been a fan of anyone till 3 years ago, when I came accros them. I am invested in them in ways I never thought I would be in anyone, certainly not a "star". I honestly am sometimes a little scared of how much they mean to me today, all 7 of them. I deeply care about them. They changed a lot of things in my life, made me a better person I believe. I feel like I own it to them, to better myself. I have friends that are Army too, and they too, grew thanks to BTS... They are rolemodels to a lot of us, yes but they really are confort for me. They feel like home. They've shared the good, the bad. They've showed us that u can still be good to people that are bad to u. To be the bigger person. To be kind to everyone, ourself first. Wish I couldbe good with words like Namjoon, Id never stop talking about them. Cannot wait to hear Namjoon's album. I'll support them as long as they want us there, all the solo and group projects. Love ya 💜 Please excuse my broken english to anyone reading this and have a wonderfull day.
Girl, exactly what you said, I feel. EXACTLY. I’m 27 and they’re the first artists I truly support, I wasn’t really anyone’s FAN until them, but fan doesn’t do justice as a word, they feel like family. I love them much and as I said to my mother, who at first told me to stop this “teenager nonsense”: “everything I’ll do good from now on, you have to thank these 7 boys for”. She understands now that they’re more than just incredible artists to me. They helped me with my mental issues and my lack of motivation and they’ve been inspiring me so much. 💜
Namjoon talking about concerts and performing had me crying because in every concert of theirs they really make sure that people go back after one of their best nights. They're genuine artists who love music and their fans to an overwhelming amount. With that being said I think ARMY might be the luckiest fandom - we get to live in the same era as BTS and enjoy their music. Now let me go listen to Trivia:Love.
RM is so eloquent, fluent, thoughtful with his answers as usual. The choice of words, he goes for everytime just amazes me. He put in his deepest thoughts before answering every question of the session. And about Pharrell, his questions are genuine, asked in a very humble way, so grounded he sounds, respectful with his words. Right here is the soon to be BOP collab!
It’s nice when Pharell said, “I want to work with you right away”. When RM asked him if he remembered that they met before a few years ago in Billboards awards. 😊❤ I Love them. ❤😊💜
For someone whose first language is not English, Namjoon knows how to elaborate and explain himself so well. It just makes me wonder how captivating and interesting it would be to just listen and talk with him in Korean. I'm so so proud of him and him just being him and being able to express himself and speak to one of his idols makes me so happy. You go, Namjoon! P.S. Pharell's aura always puts me in a trance every time.
The way Namjoon talks, his calmness and his gentle responses, everything about this man is perfect. He is wise to see him. It makes you realize that the world is still fine.
Seeing NamJoon share his anxiety and fears aloud, as famous as he is, touches my heart so deeply. He is so intelligent, talented and beautiful. That he cares so much about ARMYs who travel from all over the world to experience BTS for one night at a concert speaks worlds about his character, humble nature and kind heart. ARMY FOREVER BTS FOREVER.
JOON just sitting there, speaking eloquently, being composed, being so honest about his thoughts, and them sharing their love, worries and thoughts about music. Appreciating each other's work and talking about some deep sh!t like being at a crossroads, losing their direction, reflecting and fighting to get back on their path. I love it. Since 2006 when joon first heard Pharrell through Take it off to them having a deep conversation about music and struggles in 2022, it's very hopeful to me that this right here, is going to better the world. All inclusivity and positivity. Joon has come a long way. I'm proud of you my boy!
Hearing Pharell say that he has never been asked the question RM is asking shows that RM is really into Pharell's music. RM is so eloquent, a deep thinker, an active listener - he really shows his love for music and creative thinking.
I’m loving how in Chapter 2 the members are all connecting with their idols/mentors for advice, like Joon with Pharrell, Jin with Coldplay, Yoongi with Psy, Hobi with a whole room of hip hop insiders… Pharrell gives such good advice, the advice Joon really needs to hear.
you can see how much pharrell likes joon because of his knowledge and curiosity and talent. i hope the whole world sooner or later realises how wonderful joon is. he is a once in a generation artist
I am so impressed that NamJoon carried this entire interview in English. He did an amazing job. If you watch him you can see the admiration in his eyes for Pharrell. And that Pharrell so patiently sits there and listen with out judgement or reservation.
@@poshdelux so, whether it was rehearsed once, twice or on the spot. What does it matter? It was still a great conversation between two people who respect each other.
@@poshdelux If you've ever had to speak for 20+ minutes straight in a foreign language you know that rehearsed or not it is HARD and should never be downplayed with that kind of comment. It achieves absolutely nothing.
Artists interviewing artists is what we need more of. I enjoyed the thought provoking, genuine questions they asked each other and I really learned a lot about and from them. Can't wait to hear what these brilliant minds put together. Namjoon, I hope you continue to find that love, joy and passion you had at 15💜💜💜
I think RM was about to say “tired” at 20:53 when remembering about his time as translator and representative of the members in America, but held back. I guess our leader was tired for the pressure everyone gave them, specially him for being the spokesperson. He sure needed some time. Let’s welcome his solo album the best way we can, sure it wasn’t easy ❤
And also quick to correct himself when he said the word "mass". Even spelling it out loud so that people won't be confused him as saying it as "mess". Phew...he had a lot of pressure as a leader.
This was AMAZING!! I was smiling and almost in tears throughout the entire interview. They interviewed each other. The pressure Namjoon has had and the pressure the entire group must have had and still has is immense. Having a viewpoint from outside of their bubble must be refreshing and a Relief/Release. There is so much more I want to mention but it is so deep and overwhelming… family, fans, the company, the members, other groups, their culture, other cultures…. EXPECTATIONS, opinions, Love Hate , omg and learning yourself and keeping your sanity…… ?!?!?!?!? The fact the these young men are humble and so poised in front of the entire world….Is A true credit to their parents and character as human beings. I can not wish anything but joy, love , success, health, and peace of mind throughout their life’s journey. The admiration and Love I feel for these 7 young men fills my heart to the brim!!💜💜💜💜💜👏👏👏💜👏🥲
We really have to allow them to take a step back and heal. Its tiring to be a leader of a massive band and fans nonstop for 10 years. Its sad to think they dont hv time to be themselves... A break is good. Unfortunately now they still have to serve their country for a while. God help them to find true rest to recharge at some point😥
Man, I can only imagine how valuable this was for RM. You can tell just by the questions he asks. Pharrell has been producing longer than RM has even been alive. Even for someone like me, who's known about and followed Pharrell since The Neptunes, am thankful he got this opportunity to speak with someone with such passion and experience in the industry. Thank you, Rolling Stone, for setting this up.
The way Namjoon talk, his hand gestures, his answers. He is more than a leader of a kpop group. He is that ARTIST.He is talented. And we love talented people.Namjoon is matured. He knows what to say.He is so young when he started his journey in music.I am a proud ARMY.💜
I Love how this interview is not scripted and its raw and beautiful. Love how namjoon did not have enough english words to express everything he wanted to say, but he gave his all and We all understood exactly what he wanted to say. And pharell is so sweet and patient with him. Very genuine interview about music from music loving people! Loved the whole talk💜
Interviews like this are so satisfying and should happen way more in the biz. Having two artists from different cultures and backgrounds talking about what they both love the most is just so nice to listen to and to see the love they share for each others music and way of working just makes this whole thing feel more genuine and true. You can tell the way they talk is so much deeper and the fact that RM does this whole thing in English and Pharrell being so considerate and patient just shows how humble and amazing both guys are. I grew up listening to Pharrell and songs he produced for others and while I'm not Army I still appreciate BTS's music and especially the rapper's solos and I love Namjoon a lot and I think he's really amazing and humble and talented and I am so excited to see what they come up with when they collab. I can't wait to see more western artists to work with other cultures and vise versa and to get new and improved and amazing music because all of them can bring something new to the table and together they could make amazing things and I can't wait to see them explore this in the future. Thank you RS for this amazing interview and bringing those two artists together.
words cannot describe how proud i am of namjoon. he has worked so hard his whole life, starting a career at 14, creating bts when he was only 18, being the best leader anyone could ask for, creating such beautiful art through music and is still so humble. he deserves all the success, love, respect and support he’s already received and more in the future. he’s so brave for doing the things he has done, showing us that it’s okay to speak up and voice ourselves. gosh, i love this man so much
I teared up at some point in this interview, particularly when Joon said that BTS work so hard and perform the best that they could in concerts to give back the love armys give to them. He's so fucking thoughtful, armys are so lucky our artists love us as much as we love them. Thank you for always working hard, Joonie and BTS as a whole. You already give us so, so much.
That moment where NamJoon asks Pharrell the question no one else ever has, but seemingly obviously should, confirms AGAIN for me how BTS and its members are a phenomenon never seen before in an "industry" that is sadly unknowingly bound by limitations. I am so thrilled to see these perspectives centered.
Now this is an actual interview/conversation between artists. I have so many words of appreciation, but I’d like to thank RM for his inspirational curiosity as a human and public servant. He and his team always inspire me to become a better version of myself in life, alongside millions of people regardless of culture, age and many more demographics. That speaks enormous volumes about how much responsibility BTS regularly carry, and its reflected in how seriously RM takes his artistry. Very grateful that the world has artists like him (and all BTS members), and am also thankful that artists like him have great taste in role models. I’ve read the whole interview and I’m glad Pharrell spoke with honesty and experience. Looking forward to the song that’ll set all the blocks in the world on fire! :)
A public servant ... I hadn't thought of that analogy but it's a very apt one, for all the 7. You are spot on! I enjoyed their conversation very much. Both artists are impressive.
It's the mutal respect that Pharell and RM have for each other. When Pharell was talking about the 100,000 fans and saying how much responsibility RM must feel for them like man. Not only does he respect his ability to perform and be a role model for Army, but even him just acknowledging the impact that RM/BTS have had (mentioned V and Jay aka Jhope).
This is the most Raw and grounding chat i have seen Namjoon have, like you can see these 14 years have really put a weight on his shoulder but he never said anything for his members and for fans coz he knew that was needed from him. But now his solo has given him certain type of independence and ik we'll see that rage that fire and free attitude in his solo. Love this man sm ❤️
RM is really a cultured person, intelligent "socially" speaking, he is a good leader, he speaks fluent English, he is a good rapper, he writes good lyrics, he is elegant, respectful, charismatic ... how not to be a fan of Kim Namjoon
I feel so proud of Joon, not only for getting to work on a project with one of his idols, but also to sit down and have such a heartfelt conversation with Pharell. I think this convo came at a great time for RM, on his journey of discovering his sound and recovering for the team. All I can say is that whatever music is put out I always come with an open mind and an open heart. I will always stay curious as to what will come next for each member and the team itself. ARMY is here to support always 💜
I agree. I'm so glad that the team is not taking the "live fast, die young" journey. They all want & deserve their own outlet, but they also love creating together - and they create together at a very high level. This step-away from the crazy scheudules & appearances, and a time to breathe and serve, is crucial. Their synergy will be different and I expect a bit unnerving at first. But this team, this family, has a lot of attractive energy & a lot of love to share. I'm excited to see where BTS goes next, because all of their new music (YTC, Run BTS, For Youth) is high quality, solid, beautiful & different from the past, as are all their recent collabs & solo work. I don't know what awaits us after 2025, but I'm so excited to see where their path takes them,! They're masters at their craft and I'll be here for all of it!
This conversation between these 2 well established artists was truly insightful, raw and wholesome! Having also done so many interviews over the years, it must be refreshing for Pharrell to be asked something new too - he was genuinely caught off guard by the question posed by Namjoon (RM)! I love how attentive and candid they both were when sharing thoughts about their lives, crafts and future aspirations. Being multilingual is a great gift and skill. Sometimes we easily forget the added challenges when you are not conversing in your mother tongue, not to mention when you are also feeling nervous or overwlemed by emotions. Namjoon is trilingual (Korean, Japanese and English) and he expressed himself very well. I can feel the mutual love, admiration and respect they have for each other throughout, and their interactions together was wonderful to watch. Namjoon is a true intellect. I am always in awe how he thinks; continuously reflecting and reviewing the world around him, his passion for art, pursuing curiosity whilst building bridges along the way with each connection he makes. He is sincere, humble, inclusive and embrace differences. Together with BTS they unquestionably make a huge impact on global positivity. Namjoon - You have given us much more than will ever know, do not be afraid and follow your heart. No matter what path you take, ARMY will always be cheering you from the side line! Fighting! As always, I look forward to all projects and releases by you and the members! Pharrell is a legend, this collab will be epic! 보라해!
This is so impressive. Each members are proving that they shine brightly in their own, but still decided to come together as a band. They have been global domination in every aspects, which is beyond amazing. Seeing them being on the front line, makes me feel so proud of them. The conversation with Namjoon and Pharrell is very insightful and deep meaningful conversation. It’s a model example we want to hear on radio, all around.
This is why BTS and each individual member are Global Ambassadors, the way they behave and carry themselves enables them to work with and collab with so many different artists and the results are just GOLD. RM is such a humble, kind, well-spoken artist. I look forward to the many collabs both he and BTS will make in the future.
What an incredible interview! So happy to see two legends talk about music and the creative process. As an ARMY it was especially nice to hear RM talk about where he's at creatively and his journey as an artist until now. Thank you, Pharell, for giving him such good advice! We BTS fans are so proud of you, RM! Keep soaring higher, we'll be here always.
I love how Joonie just opened up here, he really asked Pharrell questions that trouble him personally so it's really beautiful to see that he can be so open and vulnerable and that also shows to me how much he respects Pharrell. Namjoon you are a great human being and I hope that you can soon have time to yourself and don't feel the pressure of literally everything around you. I am proud of you, I trust you and love you and can't wait to see and hear what you have in store for us. 💜
Respect to Pharrell really. He's been in the game so long and is definitely wise and humble, someone that namjoon can learn from and be a colleague with in an industry filled with such hate and competition.
ALL the members of BTS are so sweet and so humble no matter what and this is why I love them. They did not let fame change their views or cloud their judgement when it comes to making the kind of music they like. I cried hearing Joon say what if I don't like music anymore? It is in his blood; it is part of who he is. But it is ok to try different things in life too, I will still be supporting him and the other members no matter what direction they take or go and take it life. I am a die-hard Army for life! This was a good interview between these two guys. Oh, and Pharrell should know we army don't care if you cuss or not, we do it too!!
Many can agree, seeing RM being able to speak with so much thought and the personal endeavors of the processes on creating music is so genuine. The attentiveness to each other's thoughts and mutual respect truly makes this video so engaging for them and the audience too! Love this!
There is something special about this boy like the way he speaks and listen to others, The way he thinks before speaking and ask such genuine questions and answers so genuinely, you can see in his eyes the passion for music and how much he respects music and other artists. This makes me love him even more..SO SO PROUD OF HIM. Humble kings ofc.
Wow. Pharrell and RM in the same room. Having a real talk about their careers. No BS. I never thought I would see this but I'm so I dunno..honoured. the feeling is weird. I cant put words to it. Mad love and respect 🙏🏾 💜
Oh Namjoon, you don't have to pay us back anything. We bought the tickets and came to see you because we're paying YOU back for all the ways you've helped us. We're there for eachother. We just want to see you and hear your voice. You and the rest of BTS could run around the stage like a BTS RUN episode and we would be happy. The merch we buy, the albums and concerts, all those things, we do them because we are repaying you. You don't have to be "more" or "other". We love you for you.
This is such a genuine interaction. So nice to see Namjoon comfortable and in his element. This is the interview he's always deserved. Love Pharrell. Been listening to him through The Neptunes, N.E.R.D, and solo work. The mutual respect between them is evident. Really looking forward to this collaboration. 🎼💜
Pharrell was speaking slowly and not using slangs that rm might not really understand My respect for him And rm is such a nice, intelligent who thinks before answering, listen carefully, etc. I love him so much
This makes me overwhelmingly happy! Counting RM's 7 years of being an underground rapper before BTS, it's a total of 17 years of him making music. Being the second highest credited artist in Korea with 200 Credits, his contribution in BTS's music is a testament to his versatility. From the endless onomatopoeia and verses with double/triple indications from his philosophical brain in the hard-core hip hop tracks to writing a timeless pop-rock masterpiece like Spring Day! I can't wait for this new album and hear all that he has to narrate. Especially after a crazy few past years and all the socio political incidents! And this interview! I always had respect for Pharrell and loved a lot of his works. But today I learned a lot about him too and its striking how similar his artistic process is to Namjoon (since I have followed Namjoon for years now). Moreover for someone as experienced as him, he is so very humble! He talked and listened to Namjoon with so much respect, inspite him being Namjoon's very own idol.
i love watching and listening to this conversation. the amount of respect they have for each other is amazing and I was almost driven to tears by the words pharrell was bringing into the conversation. actually speechless
You could tell Namjoon was nervous but he carried himself so well and spoke so eloquently in his second language, I’m so proud of him but mostly I have so much respect for him
RM meeting his idol and having such a deep conversation with him is so amazing. i like how pharrell asked him questions too and there's so much mutual respect

Literally every comment is about RM, but can we take a second to appreciate the longevity and lifespan of Pharrell's career. He's produced some of the biggest artists on the planet for over 20 years.
Totally looking for any comments that will focus on Pharrell cuz he deserves all kinds of praise too!
Always happens when BTS or a member is in the video... ARMYS overrun the comments and many seem to completely ignore the other artist...

Yesss
RM uses American slang a lot. He knows more American slang than me, 52 year old American woman
@@christinealling272 Yup just very considerate for Pharrell if he doesn't know just in case etc
Oh man you've put it so well.

Wow so well put! Yes you can see respect and admiration from both sides. I’m so glad they’re finally working together!!!
The way Namjoon truly thinks about his answers before speaking, his eloquent words, his honesty, his humbleness, the way he actively listens to Pharrell, asks genuine questions... all of this just proves yet again that we support and love the right person
Edit: For whatever reason this comment went off, so I just wanted to let you all know that I make video essays (mainly on BTS and their music right now), in case anyone is interested! 💜

Thank you for your kind words, hes such an inspiration to many like me.

One of those the things that I love about him and truly admire is how deep he can be whether he's being open and deep with his responses on weverse or through his letters to us or whether it's a live or through the lyrics of his songs. He has such deep thoughts and is not afraid to share them. I love how open he is with us.
Yup, he's a super smart guy. When he speaks about his thoughts in Korean, it gets downright beautiful (as you read translations).
Statistically, ARMY like you aren't rare but I don't know any older ones personally :((((.
And I agree. He composed himself quite well.

Such a humble, beautiful human being!💜
I read the interview before watching this on my way to work and I cried reading it
Yes you said it right .at 20:53 RM was about to say TIRED But held back .This hurts my heart .I know every BTS member worked hard but Namjoon was performing two duties one as band member and the second as BTS leader ,handling all the interviews and stuff.

Especially considering he's unscripted here, it's so impressive. He really draws you in and makes you anticipate what he's going to say. I could listen to him talk all day.

It’s a different vibe.🙈
We dont always see BTS having convos like this with other artists outside of just themselves. It also reminds me of IU and J-hope interview…we saw a different side to J-hope speaking with a senior of his. It’s nice seeing more sides to them.☺️
The conversation is so immersive that 23 minutes feels short. Im not an ARMY but finds myself looking for more RM's interviews.

And i agree with Pharrell so much on the humble thing i mean these boys are the most humblest people i have i ever seen maybe that's what makes other artists fall for them over and over again. its a very nice, humbling, and honest conversation between two passionate musicians. Love it, Rolling stone. Thank you for meeting them both!

that part when RM acknowledges his fans' journey traveling from all over the world just to see a BTS concert and that's why he has to "pay them back" by giving his 100% is the reason why a BTS concert never disappoints.
Yeah🥺🥺
I love him🥺🥺🥺💜
Although the phrase "pay them back" made me pause. Like he "owed" us something. Good friends don't need to owe each other anything. But he also says love is a two-way street. So maybe
he didn't mean it in quite that way...

It must have been so intimidating for him, but he carried this interview so elegantly, i'm really proud of him
Okay can we take a moment to thank Pharrel, he obviously went into this video knowing enough about K-Pop and BTS on a whole.

😩it’s ok!❤
They are media trained so well… I guess it is hard sometimes to just say the whole raw truth and talk about things behind the masks they have to put on because of their line of work🥲🙈💜
I absolutely loved this.

Love ya 💜
Please excuse my broken english to anyone reading this and have a wonderfull day.
This was beautiful and the words your wrote was such a comfort💜💜💜💗 ...
Same! I have never been a fan of anyone, until BTS ❤
i agree with you..i feel the same...
couldn't agree more. I'm not so good at expressing but u really described it all so well!
He's a hack. The Korean version of Donnie Wahlberg.
That's the smart n wise did.

Yes I support you 😊😸

The mutual respect between the two of them is amazing. Such a pure, wholesome interaction between peers.
Proud of him too! 💜💜💜
Me too I'm proud of him
Hearing Pharell say that he has never been asked the question RM is asking shows that RM is really into Pharell's music. RM is so eloquent, a deep thinker, an active listener - he really shows his love for music and creative thinking.
5:24 Joonie talking about Pharrell’s song “Take It Off (Dim The Lights)” and how Joonie uses it for “Expensive Girl” 😭👏🏻💜
True!
We're a getting a deeper look into them from a different perspective
you can see how much pharrell likes joon because of his knowledge and curiosity and talent. i hope the whole world sooner or later realises how wonderful joon is. he is a once in a generation artist
I am so impressed that NamJoon carried this entire interview in English. He did an amazing job. If you watch him you can see the admiration in his eyes for Pharrell. And that Pharrell so patiently sits there and listen with out judgement or reservation.

@@rohansengupta1028 thank you, gotta love auto correct.
This interview was rehearsed at least a few times before filming. Just sayin'.
RM is so precious! I love the questions he’s asking.
We really have to allow them to take a
step back and heal. Its tiring to be a leader of a massive band and fans nonstop for 10 years. Its sad to think they dont hv time to be themselves... A break is good. Unfortunately now they still have to serve their country for a while. God help them to find true rest to recharge at some point😥
I’m literally crying. I’m so happy for Namjoon to be able to talk to his idol and be recognized for how much thought he put into his questions.
I love hearing namjoon talk about music so much, it's always very refreshing

I am so thrilled to see these perspectives centered.
so true!
The other 6 members, specially the vocal line are just a bunch of dumb boys, do not compare them with namjoon

I think he was mentioning Beyoncé and Jay-Z.
I think he meant Be as in Beyonce &Jay Z 🤔😊
Yes I also understood as Beyonce - B & Jay he said
Hey all, I want to share a few experiences I've had this year, I hope it helps anyone who's in need.
Beyoncé and JayZ

Same here! 💜💜💜💜
보라해!

Yeah, I feel so proud even though it's not me lol. It's like I knew the day would come but never thought it would come.
I second that notion
Wonderful comment, thank you for speaking for the majority 💜

This is such a genuine interaction. So nice to see Namjoon comfortable and in his element. This is the interview he's always deserved.
Love Pharrell. Been listening to him through The Neptunes, N.E.R.D, and solo work. The mutual respect between them is evident. Really looking forward to this collaboration. 🎼💜
Pharrell was speaking slowly and not using slangs that rm might not really understand
My respect for him
And rm is such a nice, intelligent who thinks before answering, listen carefully, etc.
