IHE Delft 💧 Netherlands Centre for Coastal Research field trip to Marker Wadden

In March 2024, 50 Masters' students and PhD candidates specialised in Coastal and Urban Resilience from knowledge centres all over the Netherlands had a field day on the Marker Wadden islands. The man-made islands were created to restore biodiversity to the turbid waters of the Markermeer Lake. This unique construction project left room for innovation and research - combining innovative hydraulic engineering, nature-based solutions and research into reclaimed land for restoring biodiversity. This made it the perfect destination for the field trip which preceded the two-day annual Netherlands Centre for Coastal Research NCK days conference.
