These had a dynamically balanced crankshaft and didn’t vibrate as much as some of its competitors. They also had a neutral finder lever at the gearbox. Royal Enfields cost more than the other British bikes.
That's a nice bike, and will be great when sorted. Look forward to the next ride. Ps. No sign of the dog, and the mk1 Cortina seems to have disappeared too!
I never heard one of these running back in the day but there is a lot of clatter going on plenty of the old bikes were mechanically noisey of course I just put that down to being worn at the time.
I had some questions about a bullet iron barrel 500 - 2003 model frame. Do you have an email I can chat with ya? I want to swap the front end out. And any info on if you’ve done it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!
I think I can explain some of it - there are so many bikes out and about around here, many in groups, and it can sometimes be too demanding to nod at each and every one. If I see a group of bikes, or separate ones in quick succession, I might nod once or twice or raise my left hand for a short while, but there are just so many of us that it can get rather difficult.
Why on earth would anyone mess with the clutch? Surely the standard one is capable of delivering more torque than the substitute. I have only ridden a Constellation, and that was deceptively quick in an effortless way. No deception with the Interceptor just plain blatant.
Well,no one has yet to reproduce,an accurate clutch center drum, VR68/6. Hitchcock's sell one that is quasi-compatible,best new wet clutch available, as I'm told.Hitchcock also has the factory blueprints, for said S ll,unit. There are belt drives, and backyard,or otherwise mods. My RE Sll has 23,000 miles on the clutch, and so far so good, with a 54 year old unit. I have no slippage issues whatsoever.Even rolling it on from 25mph in 4th. Torque! Paul's video illustrates an all to common problem,as I understand it. Don't know what's inside, but in the timing video,it has a stock appearence. The 1970 parts supplement book shows a clutch center drum splined type # A11330,along with a sprocket drum,# A11329. The factory recognized the issues, but it was the end of the line. Sometimes changing the type of chaincase lubricant helps. I use Amsoil
beautiful looking bike that perhaps the best British twin
She’s brutal even with a slipping clutch! “Now That’s a Knife”!👍
A lovely bike. What a weapon . 😊

Magnificent beast , had 3 of these over the years , wished I'd never sold them .
Great bikes
Lucky to ride one once
Earlier version
A fine looking bike with plenty of power, but definitely a candidate for your mechanical expertise Paul by the sound of things!
A torque monster! Bloody lovely!

i always liked these bikes, the engines look interesting, not too sluggish by all accounts
Great camra shots.as if I'm riding the Interceptor myself. Nice one
Thanks 👍
Looks pretty good, mate, and the Cortina's finally rotted away to nothing!!!!!
I noticed that it was missing as well . Hope it's being taken care of ( restored) and not been half inched for scrap .

I agree. This is one of the best looking bikes
A fettled one must have some real strong pulling power.
You must be very patient, I don't think I could have put up with that clutch for so long (although my riding is much slower and duller than yours).
A difficult clutch to set up, the bane of owning an XS 650 Yamaha.
36K on mine. Never touched the clutch.
Gorgeous bike on another subject where has the mk1 Cortina gone ?
Gosh, you are more observant than me - I'm not sure!
There's also an indicator pointing at the ground.
It was pointing back at me on the way home!

Bought a Rickman version one time with 97 miles on the clock. Came from a museum in America .
I have videos of rides on two of those on my Interceptors playlist.
Sounds like it pulls strong on sudden acceleration….
Bloody hell, none of the bikers passing by gave so much as a nod, what happened to the old on road comradeship?😮

Lots of bikers, can only be a good thing!

travesty that the owners of royal enfield shut them down to sell the land, what might have been
