The song was a distraction the band needed, it was out of the studio. Brian had depression after the breakdown of his first marriage and though you would not have known it Freddie had been told his condition had gotten worse. Over two days The preserved Nene valley railway in Peterborough in Cambridgeshire was the location for filming. Freddie and the band used no safety gear and Freddie nearly gave the crew heat attacks with his energetic performance.
This song is one of proof that John Deacon was an important member of the Queen. His bass playing and songwriting in Queen, always gave the band extra push that made Queen so amazing. Queen will never be that big band today, had it not been for John Deacon.
People always shove John down as the #4 member, but he's so wholesome and sweet and I love him. I mean he drove a Volvo and was a family member if I recall correctly (I heard it over a decade ago). I had never heard of a Volvo until I read/heard that!
Also, if it weren't for John's engineering capabilities (As he created the amp Brian used in most of the 70s and in some of the 80s and 90s known as the "Deacy Amp"), I'm sure most of the guitar tones heard in Queen's stuff would've been different
@@dinobravo852The prominent **chugga-chugga-chugga** bass sound, yes. But if you listen closely, John is throwing in all kinds of interesting stuff to support the guitar… and the beautiful melodic bass break during the inside-the-tunnel sequence is all John.
Freddie had been trying to finish a song called A New Life Is Born for the album but never finished it off. Instead they used the beginning of it to start this song😀
It was John's idea to do this video on a train. Queen was able to find a train they could paint so it happened. Perhaps that is why John looks so happy. Brian looks so rock star with his hair blowing wildly in the wind, I love this song and this video, thank you for your reaction.

I've been to the railway where Queen filmed this video. It's Nene Valley Railway, near Peterborough in Cambridgeshire, England. Love this track, but they could never film this today. Health and Safety would have a fit LOL!
They were permitted to do no more than 75 miles per hour on the line and it was shot over a 12 mile stretch of the bluebell railway line part of the nene valley vintage railway line. Done in one attempt after a half dozen trial speed runs to set the safe and record able speed they could manage

Thanks! 😄
@@DoeDarling yes at the start of your video's i can see you've studied freddie! when you have the black and white harlequin suit on and you throw yourself back in the chair just like freddie did backstage on their american tour of 77, i love your enthusiasm Doe, keep it up. If you want to react to uplifting fun songs you must do 'seaside rendezvous' and 'bring back that leroy brown', if you do leroy brown DON'T do the live version as it was only an instrumental when they done it onstage, so go for the official lyric version please, you'll love them both, keep up the good work Doe xx 👑✊🇬🇧
spread your wings 75/6ish was underated song only charted at 33
I wonder what you would of thought of the song without the video? Music is for the ears!
That was a quitte expensive video to make, costed a lot of insurance money (train traveled pretty fast , and Brian said it was very hard on the feet (they also put a lot of trust in the train driver on accerating or braking )
