Great podcast, I’d love to see big z talking about his ascent into strongman, the struggle to get a first title, ifsa, Arnold’s and your legendary duel for wsm
Bobby thompson gave us a wonderful insight into his upbringing!! Respect is in his DNA!! Huge fan and good luck and stay healthy in future competitions!!!
Love this!!! Brian, don't be afraid to express your true opinion on things bro...people will either love or hate you...who cares, you'll do well either way bro. The more real your podcasts are, the more polarizing they will be!! Marine Mike
Most enjoyable conversation yet i think. Wasnt a fan of bobby before this as he always seems like a standoffish kinda guy but after hearing his story and the banter back and forth on here and in the gym videos im definitely a fan of his now.
Bobby is really cool and nice, he will fuck with you with jokes and banter but hes also really helpful. We both go to the barn gym here in virgina. Bobby is what youd hoped oberst would be in real life instead of the douche he actually is
BROOOO!!! I started following Thompson religiously after I saw him do I think the Arnold as an amateur. On the pro circuit. Dude looked like a swole dude running a game of dungeons and dragons. NOW HE HAS A SHIRT I ALSO HAVE!!! My first comp was at Massenomics in South Dakota. And that was the shirt they gave us haha.
@SaintAlexander871 yeah alot of the people at the barn are nerds haha, a few of the guys have a dnd game weekly including the gym owner. if you ever end up around Spotsylvania virginia ,you can usually find him at the barn gym 3 to 4 days a week. Hes really helpful and nice actually, he gave me some tips on working on my shoulder stability and an imbalance i have in my traps when squating a few hours ago actually funnily enough
Good ole Virginia guy. My friend did a comp that Bobby was at. Said he was cool, and helpful. Gotta like Bobby after hearing his story. The room is sounding better. Producers choice sound blankets on the other wall would help I think.
I think we should remember Big Z did 4 reps on the 205kg Austrian Oak which is a wooden log and said he did 6 reps at 205kg on a wooden log in training. Even forgetting the training lift it's safe to say he could've matched his max lift on a wooden log at his very best before he got injured.
Big Zs best log is 228, bobbys is 217. They honestly arent as crazy far apart as one would think especially since bobby is only 31 rn and still very much in his prime
Nice to hear more from Bobby Thompson. I agree that world records might be a little overhyped lately. I would prefer that athletes focus mainly on contest performance and if world records fall within that show, it's just a nice bonus.
Every time you come out with a new video and have some new strong man training with you I always look forward to the podcast with that certain strong man
I remember someone making a big deal about me having facial hair during the 9th grade, 6th grade is kind of early though. I had a great time both times I went to Hawaii (Ha-va-ii) for my birthday.
Always enjoy these podcasts. Would be very interested to hear from a competitor that wasn't naturally gifted. The story is always that they were good at sports as a kid, always big, deadlifted 300kg the first time they entered a gym etc. Just wondered if there was anyone in the open weight class who didn't have that or is it basically just a prerequisite?
@@gustavolsson2005 Great point I didn’t know that. I had just heard him say it was a long journey and he finished last place many times before he reached the top.
Every pro Strongman is pure talent and raw ability. Not to say they weren't competitive or had a low work ethic, but as soon as you're able to get a pro card, you've already proven that you're built different. There are plenty of amateur Strongman that are also gifted but don't have the drive or time to push that envelope. Everybody that has a name on Shaw's podcast is gifted and talented to the enth degree. No average Joe is getting in here.
@@bamstrongfitness11 Kearney is supremely naturally gifted, ain't no doubt about that. You don't get to the world level at 5'10" 285 lbs unless you're something different.

I agree, that would be amazing!
Bobby has such a interesting past, great guest and good episode. Really looking forward for the Shaw classic
Enjoying this interview format, another great guest! I would love to see some of the older legends with Shaw like Magnus, Capes, Kaz, etc.
These podcasts are so motivating to be the better version of yourself honestly I’m always in the best place mentally when listening to these

I hope Gabe and Trey hear this compliment about being Bobby's targets. I was a fan of Bobby when I first seen him in the Arnold pro
Excellent podcast! Makes sense why these guys do this sport. It’s not just their size; it’s their mental toughness that’s been calloused by the past

Brian you should do a design on that table with all your medals or maybe signatures of everyone who’s come on💪🏻
It’s a double Shaw post day! Appreciate it!
Triple, he also did QnA at Shaw Club

Very surprised to see Bobby walk off after stone pass with Brian. 🤷🏻♂️

I was really hoping you would do a podcast with Bobby!! Can’t wait to listen!
Great interview!
I believe the guy he was talking about was Anthony Clark who had the reverse grip bench record.
Best one yet

A lot of people don't realize that in Hawaii they have a holiday calked "kill a howlei" day.
Personally I think strongman should stop allowing suits. its supposed to be about being strong not who can bring the best equipment with them.
Go team Shaw!!!!
Mr. SHAW 🤝
Sleeping on the floor when the air mattress pops...and getting the call..4 wsm...
I love how those chairs are so freaking huge that bobby looks like he is a 12 year old sitting in his fathers chair
Is this episode going to posted on Apple podcasts? That way is MUCH easier to listen to when I'm supposed to be working.
