Even as a little kid I spent hours trying to figure out how Launchpad was on two shows. In the end I figured he commuted to Duck Tales on the weekends.
In one of the episodes where Gizmo Duck appears, Launchpad says that they "used to work for the same guy", obviously referring to Scrooge so Darkwing has to take place after Ducktales. My guess is that Launchpad's flying skills had improved since his time on Ducktales.
I figured it was a joke on people like Alfred and Jarvis. They have their own lives but you never see it. With Launchpad you realize his life is just as crazy on both sides of the coin.

One correction worth noting: Although I pitched and sold the concept of Roboduck (Gizmoduck) and the name "Fenton Crackshell," it was the writers and story editors of DuckTales who turned him into a memorable character, especially Ken Koonce and David Weimers. As to new Darkwings? I suggest you DVR all the new DuckTales and look for clues! Seriously.

I am happy to report that Darkwing Duck was indeed rebooted in the new DuckTales. And let me tell you... IT IS FANTASTIC!!! They have him in Launchpad's favourite TV show, played by an actor named Jim Starling. The show was then cancelled on a serious cliff-hanger, leaving Jim Starling as a former actor doing openings for furniture stores. When Scrooge McDuck's movie studio tries to create a grittier Darkwing Duck movie, Jim Starling finds out his character is being portrayed by a younger fellow who grew up inspired by his show. Starling (with a little help from Launchpad) forces his way into the studio, hoping to become a star again. But he slowly goes insane, and it's up to Launchpad and the new Darkwing to stop him. In the chaos that follows the new Darkwing proves to be extremely resilient, Launchpad makes an eloquent speech about what makes Darkwing a hero, and the old Darkwing performs one last heroic move before getting caught in an explosion. Scrooge cancels the movie. Launchpad convinces the new Darkwing to become a real-live superhero and finally gets his poster signed by Drake Mallard. As for Jim Starling... As the saying goes: "You either die a hero, or you live long enough to become a villain." He became Negaduck.
Also, did the Fearsome Five ever become the Fearsome Four, *or* are they mistaking the Friendly Four from the episode multi-parter that explained the backstory of the second Nega Duck?

After Darkwing trained them to protect the Nega-St. Canard, they didn't need him. However... in the Boom comics, Negaduck and the Fearsome Five parted ways and Quackejack goes even more insane after Negaduck destroys Mr. Banana Brain and on the mere mention of Negaduck's name. That could be why this happened.
That did confuse me. I watched the German Verseion and there the Yellow Nega Duck is Calles Fieso-Duck while the other Nega Duck is Called Horror-Duck.

A slight correction on a fact. When Negaduck left Saint Canard he went to his own dimension where everything is opposite so Liquidator, Bushroot, Quackerjack and Megavolt didn't "turn" good, they were already good since they were in the Negaverse. The regular Bushroot, Quakerjack, Liquidator and Megavolt were still bad in their dimension. Also I never understood why Tad Stones didn't just declare it a spin off of Ducktales. They mention Duckburg, there's an episode where Launchpad brings up Scoorge to DW (though he doesn't actually say his name, just that he worked for him), Launchpad was in it, Gizmoduck was in it, etc. It makes no sense that Darkwing would take place in an alternate universe.
Darkwing Duck is my alltime favorite cartoon. He is so funny, awesome, and mysterious. I hope they make a reboot. I heard he is going to have a cameo in the ducktales reboot. That will be awesome.
I was at that MomoCon! I got the comic and both Tad and Jim signed the inside cover. It looks like a Darkwing spinoff from the new Ducktales just might happen. They had an episode that worked as an origin, even showing Negaduck.

When he got back, he told us what happened, and that he got to meet Darkwing Duck at the lost child center, who tussled his hair. Actually, there are two Negaducks. The Tron-splitter one was rejoined to Darkwing in that episode, effectively destroying him. But the producers liked the character so much, they brought in a new Negaduck - an evil Darkwing from a "Mirror Universe" dimension called the Negaverse, where everyone is the exact opposite of themselves. Yes, Darkwing Duck was brought back in the new Ducktales! It started out as an old TV show that Launchpad was obsessed with and by the last episode of season 2 they were making a Darkwing Duck movie and the actor playing Darkwing was actually Drake Mallard and he gets in a fight with the old guy that played Darkwing Duck from the old show who ends up becoming Negaduck and Launchpad tells Drake that he should become a real superhero like Gizmoduck

comment on the spandex-thing, it should've not been so hard, they made it in Ductales, The masked Mallard, where scrooged fights crime, and not to mention the comics in where dOnald is a superhero! Fun fact; DD was cancelled in Swedish television due to the violence, apparently some stupid kids had tried some of his moves and jumped down from a balcony, I loved DD when I was a kid, I remember crying alot when they said it was going to be off the air. So not a whole lot of episodes got dubbed I think. One of my earliest fanarts are DD and I still has it!
I loved this show, I really do hope the New Ducktales show can eventually give us new Darkwing. The style used now looks amazing and the jokes are top notch.
I hope they do a Darkwing Duck reboot after Ducktales my personal casting choice for Darkwing would be Joel Mchale because he can really capture the egotistical and greedy side of him

Mr Critical gonna disagree there. While the others do great voicing but no one beats Jim Cummings as Darkwing Duck. He does an amazing job capturing the egotistical and greedy and hammy aspects of DW. Plus they brought back Tony Alsermo to voice Donald so they can bring back Jim to voice

Who else thinks that the friendly four should get their own spin off show? Would be interseting to see how they all met each other. Also, I know that Bushroot's voice actor also played Mr.Grouper in Bubble Guppies, May the man behind those tow voices rest in peace.
I didn't get into this series until college, having been born just after this series premiered on Disney channel. But I have to say, it reminds me a lot of a parody on Batman, James Bond, and/or comics from the 1930s - 50s (CAMP!) Hearing that all three of those elements went into the show's art style and writing reveal that I wasn't far off.
Lack of imagination, lack of balls, leftist influence, demands that "kid shows" have "redeeming social value", i.e. "educational", "morally uplifting", "politically correct", etc(no one these days seems to demand that cartoons for kids have the ENTERTAINMENT value of the shows from the '60's to early 70's!)
I remember when they started showing Darkwing later at night normally before Gargoyles I believe, and I would get so happy and sing the theme song my late mother thought I was nuts. She wasn't far off seeing as a child I would demand grape juice in the house just so I could drink it as i watched Gummy Bears and dart around my family room like I was bouncing. The Darkwing part came later.

I actually met Jim cummings, the guy who voiced darkwing duck at a con once!! I was so nervous about meeting him because he also voiced 2 of my favorite characters Tigger and Pooh. But then I heard him mumble under his breath " who do you call when you're in trouble?" Well, the theater geek I am, I kind of started singing the theme song!!! IT WAS GREAT!!!! TurboGrafx-16 wasn't made by Tiger & it's not handheld. It's a home console made by NEC. There is a handheld version by the name of TurboExpress. The awful Tiger handheld that used cartridges was the Game.com.
Disney is apparently so confident in their new Ducktales series they've not only ordered season 2, but they've already started creating it. I loved the first two episodes and hope its pretty good after that. Hopefully HOPEFULLY it does open the door for a new Darkwing Duck (Which was mentioned of a hopeful at D23.)
In the realm of nods and pop culture references, there's a small one in the "Twin Beaks" episode when the Cow Queen sates that their people are "from the Planet Larson, on the far side of the galaxy". Gary Larson's 'The Far Side' comic frequently used cows as characters instead of humans.
There was actually 2 Negaducks. The first one was when Darkwing was hit with the Positron, and only had one appearance. The recurring Negaduck is actually from a mirror universe.
SHUSH is likely more a reference to THE MAN FROM UNCLE; UNCLE being the good guys and THRUSH the villainous agency. If I remember correctly, the two DVD sets are the syndicated cuts instead of how they were originally shown. The DVDs also lack the initial "movie" version of "Darkly Dawns the Duck".
Also F.O.W.L. appears referenced on Webby board on the new Duck Tales. With those hints and the announcement at D23 this would be epic. Let's Get Dangerous!
In the new Duck Tales Darkwing Duck is Launchpad's favorite TV show and hero. There is even a end title scene where Darkwing is sitting at the top of a building brooding like Batman often does.
Megavolt is my favorite Darkwing Duck villain. Mainly because I think Jim Cummings and Dan Castellaneta have wonderful cartoon chemistry (Earthworm Jim and Psy-Crow for example). Negaduck is an extremely close second though. That voice, man. Still gives me chills.
They also referenced Gary Larson's work. There were the evil cabbages that were being chased by the cops who were cows from the planet Larson that was over on the far side of the Galaxy.

A similar situation that happened was that an animated Popeye movie was in the makes, but producers ditched it for ... The Emoji Movie.
If it's any consolation, Darkwing Duck was eventually added into Disney Heroes: Battle Mode.

It started out as an old TV show that Launchpad was obsessed with and by the last episode of season 2 they were making a Darkwing Duck movie and the actor playing Darkwing was actually Drake Mallard and he gets in a fight with the old guy that played Darkwing Duck from the old show who ends up becoming Negaduck and Launchpad tells Drake that he should become a real superhero like Gizmoduck

Fun fact; DD was cancelled in Swedish television due to the violence, apparently some stupid kids had tried some of his moves and jumped down from a balcony, I loved DD when I was a kid, I remember crying alot when they said it was going to be off the air. So not a whole lot of episodes got dubbed I think.

Mr Critical gonna disagree there. While the others do great voicing but no one beats Jim Cummings as Darkwing Duck. He does an amazing job capturing the egotistical and greedy and hammy aspects of DW. Plus they brought back Tony Alsermo to voice Donald so they can bring back Jim to voice

I didn't get into this series until college, having been born just after this series premiered on Disney channel. But I have to say, it reminds me a lot of a parody on Batman, James Bond, and/or comics from the 1930s - 50s (CAMP!) Hearing that all three of those elements went into the show's art style and writing reveal that I wasn't far off.

I remember when they started showing Darkwing later at night normally before Gargoyles I believe, and I would get so happy and sing the theme song my late mother thought I was nuts. She wasn't far off seeing as a child I would demand grape juice in the house just so I could drink it as i watched Gummy Bears and dart around my family room like I was bouncing. The Darkwing part came later.
Two years later, new Ducktales do well, AND there were sightings of Darkwing Duck!

I actually met Jim cummings, the guy who voiced darkwing duck at a con once!! I was so nervous about meeting him because he also voiced 2 of my favorite characters Tigger and Pooh. But then I heard him mumble under his breath " who do you call when you're in trouble?" Well, the theater geek I am, I kind of started singing the theme song!!! IT WAS GREAT!!!! Disney is apparently so confident in their new Ducktales series they've not only ordered season 2, but they've already started creating it. I loved the first two episodes and hope its pretty good after that. Hopefully HOPEFULLY it does open the door for a new Darkwing Duck (Which was mentioned of a hopeful at D23.)

There was actually 2 Negaducks. The first one was when Darkwing was hit with the Positron, and only had one appearance. The recurring Negaduck is actually from a mirror universe.

If I remember correctly, the two DVD sets are the syndicated cuts instead of how they were originally shown. The DVDs also lack the initial "movie" version of "Darkly Dawns the Duck".

In the new Duck Tales Darkwing Duck is Launchpad's favorite TV show and hero. There is even a end title scene where Darkwing is sitting at the top of a building brooding like Batman often does.
I got both DVD volumes for Darkwing Duck; the first volume for Christmas 2006 and the second volume for Christmas 2007!

Megavolt is my favorite Darkwing Duck villain. Mainly because I think Jim Cummings and Dan Castellaneta have wonderful cartoon chemistry (Earthworm Jim and Psy-Crow for example). Negaduck is an extremely close second though. That voice, man. Still gives me chills.
