He didn't sacrifice anything. The "should be" stuff is such nonsense. They're both clowns, but people will generally vote for the side that falls in more with their ideals. If someone cares about women's rights, they probably won't vote for your guy. Or people who don't want someone who said they would have given even more to Israel for their genocide than the guy in office.
There is no "should"....people will just vote with the side the closer aligns with them.
