Not that much on how to grow Redbud here. Would have liked to see something on scarification/stratification of Redbud seeds and prepping them them to germinate.
I have redbud trees growing wild and reseeding themselves into a thicket. Wondering if I can collect mature seed pod and spread them to other parts of my property, they don't seem to need much help in establishing themselves.
I live up north & I got this tree in November but Couldn't plant it & been storing it in my place in bucket of water & it's just starting to grow lol the leaves r starting to come on the tree branch funny but I'm going to try planting it in the woods bc I have no where to plant it lol but in a spot where probably can grow I have spot for. I hope still servives until late next month thanks for video it can service in whatever tho my bucket has about inch water in it
I planted a redbud tree a couple years ago and I only get a very few buds on it perhaps only cover an inch. What can I do to make it produce more buds?
I have several cuttings of read bud tree. I cut them in 8" cuttings. Their growing leaves out of the shoots. I placed them in a 2ltr container., I've only water it once the humidity is keeping the soil moist. Noe that leaves are sprouting should I take the cover off. And should I put them outside in the shade? My question now that their sprouting should I put them outside in the shade for awhile and gradually put the in the sun? Please tell me what to do if you don't mind. Thank you
Can anyone please help me out, I am from Australia and the summer is just starting here, I am very much into Bonsai and I actually have a redbud and it was in a big pot and the tree was fairly strong, around the mid spring we transferred it into a smaller pot (bonsai pot) and had to cut down branches and the root system. To give you the run down. 1. I have used well drained soil. 2. Kept it in partly shade. 3. Well watered. 4. The root system was fairly strong and is enough to support the entire tree. 5. Root system = size of the tree. Long story short, it has been almost a month and the tree is not showing any sign of recovery. But it still is holding on only 3 leaves 🤷🏻♂️. Just wondering is it trying to recover from a shock or are they a pain in the ass of a tree?
Hi there. I bought a young sapling 2 yrs ago. I've not done any pruning just observed. They are growing in a weeping "v" or "y" shape. Part of the reason I haven't touched them is I can't find information on pruning to shape this tree at such a young age. Would you be so kind to point me in the right direction? -Roxanne Zone5b Ontario 🇨🇦
I have few redbuds and have done very little pruning on them, only removing an occasional awkward sucker from the base. You could search for images of redbuds, and prune yours to match the ones you liked best. Basic pruning advice is to remove inward facing branches that will cross the center line and interfere with other branches. A search should reveal lots of videos about how-to prune small trees. Good luck, and thanks for watching!
Had one in the back yard. Beautiful tree. Had it for probably 15 years but lost it 2 winters ago (because of the winter). It's been pretty harsh the past couple seasons here in the Rochester NY area. I'm afraid to take a chance with another one. Any recommendation for a replacement? I want something pretty like the Redbud.
Do you know the best way to germinate redbud seeds ? I tried germinating some 15 seeds by scratching them with a sand paper and then soaking them in water for about five days before sowing in moist soil. It has a very poor germination record of just 1 out of 15 germinated. Can you assist ?
If you did not refrigerate them for several weeks you may want to try that next time before you scratch and soak them. Many seeds and bulbs need a period of cold to make them viable. Good luck, and thanks for watching! www.alchemy-works.com/fall_planting.html
I have a very thin tall redbud on my new property. Approximately 15-20ft tall. It only has branched and buds at the very top. What can I do to make it look "better"? Can I cut it back to just the trunk? Will new growth appear or will it die? I have no idea what I'm doing 😂
+B Beckler It is hardy in zone 4 but unfortunately it is also a favorite of deer. Some interesting thoughts here... homeguides.sfgate.com/deer-eat-eastern-redbud-trees-74725.html Thanks for watching!
No, it behaves itself. There's more about them here and it mentions their well mannered roots... homeguides.sfgate.com/landscaping-redbud-tree-48733.html Thanks for watching!

Wow used in relish geesh. Interesting. I have a beautiful red bud. Thanks
Blooming time varies depending on location and weather. Here in West Ky., they stay pretty well bloomed and vibrant purplish pink most all of April.
Great information and well explained. Thank u very much😀😀
Great video about a great tree.

Thanks for the informative video!
Thank you for the video. Will Red Bud seeds germinate when they fall in my surrounding planted landscape?
They may, but they are not so prolific as to be a nuisance.

I want to group them together, 3 of them. How close do plant them to each other?
I've been looking for the answer to that question too!
What's the temperature range when the eastern rebud trees bloom?
Does it mean it only flowers once a year?
I have a really pretty redbud, but it has never flowered. are there non flowering types?

If you like the redbud, why not try another. In really severe winters, you can lose most any kind of tree.
Try the flowering dogwood, Cornus florida.
The flowers are just as showy, and they’re native to northeastern North America

Move to East Texas. They grow here if they just smell the soil.

meg davis you can cut it to a trunk and it’ll have growth in the spring
Mines are hurting in the Texan heat
Can I grow one of these bad boys in the Chicago area?
Yes you can definitely grow Redbuds in Chicago Jasper, thanks for watching!
is it deer resistant and safe in zone 4?

Does anyone show rooting from cutting in water?
Haven't seen that done successfully with Redbud.

Is the root system invasive?

Here, in East Texas, the seeds grow everywhere they fall. If you don't stay ahead of them you'll end up with a red bud forest.
Only a week of bloom too bad
