Hi there I hope you are fully recovered from the covid virus. Of course you have only just uploaded thus video so you must be. 🙂
When I was researching my own family tree I discovered a lot about the life of the average villager and the importance of the church to the community.
The church was not just a venue for the Sunday sermons or a place for the daily mass. The church was an integral part of village life 7 days a week.
Guild meetings were held there. Schooling teaching the basic education to the children was done there. Basic essentials were donated to the poor there and lots of other communal activities took place at that location. It was the heart and hub of the local community. As a result of this the building needed constant repairs. Because it was the place guilds held their meetings artisans such as carpenters and black smiths did a lot of these repairs and the raw materials were provided by the Lord of the manner. In this case the Paget family held that position fro the 1400s until now.
This church is a good example of that and that ugly building is a boiler room providing the congregation with a bit of extra warmth.
Thank you for sharing this with us. Best wishes
