These crakers cause short time air pollution and air quality go backs to normal in few hours, and if common people had to play with crackes their are restrictions but in india during diwali carkers are something which are literally used by everyone and quality of crackers in india is very low which cause pollution
First of all, its the authorities of the metropolitan cities in US who engage in fireworks, not the people or in some cases very few people burst the fireworks in countryside areas of the US. Also, the fireworks celebrations goes on for just one day which have a minimal impact towards the environment.
In India though, poeple start bursting crackers from the dussehra itself and as we go closer to Diwali, more and more people engage. By the time we reach diwali, virtually every house burst crackers. So because of this constant and large scale bursting of crackers, atmosphere becomes a cloud of smog which kills 100 people daily.
