Skinny on a next level fr. He understands cultural behaviour that's why he's able to be relevant in different carnival around the world. Also he has has a great body of work ,never heard a shit song from him yet.
From the beat start, we Dominicans identified immediately. Thanks for acknowledging and sharing the information on everyone who played a part in this track.
Yes learning new stuff about our culture all around the world soca is really pulling us all together just like reggae. I love us all from all de islands an country's cause at then of the day we all where scattered to the ends of the Earth. Big up Skinny Fabulous!!!!
It's a beautiful thing to see a Vincentian on a Trini station talking about working with two other Trinis and a Dominican to make positive soca music. Also, to see that all the styles that contributed to the song being acknowledged is big. I've always believed that soca would have an even stronger impact in the Caribbean (and possibly the world) if it wasn't so divided by nationalism, especially back in the day. Given that there are so many carnivals in the Caribbean and out, there is so much space for soca music to be created and promoted year round. Imagine what a force soca music would be if artists and producers from all over the Caribbean continue working together and pushing the genre. They just have to see the vision. Big up Skinny for being one who does. Shal too.
Wow, Skinny did Soca Defenders on here?! I've been to 3 Skinny performances in 2018 and didn't hear him perform this at all. Glad to hear him doing this on radio! It's really dope to see the acknowledgement of Bouyon music and the talk of not only acknowledging "small island music" but also changing the term and getting rid of any stereotypes or connotations that come with that. Collaboration with other artists, producers, singers and songwriters is the FUTURE OF SOCA. This type of musical movement will create a stronger, more united Caribbea. CHUNE BAD!
“Lemme put on the Garlin voice “ 😂😂😂😂😂 much love and respect Skinny 💜 Now that I actually finished the interview, he is so articulate and well spoken. He has a true understanding of culture, people and life. Such a soul
I love my island🇻🇨 I agree with all of them people need to stop saying "Small Island" Jamaicans is always saying that about other Caribbean Places. This was a great episode 1❤️OJO. Love U Skinny . Famalay Is A Big Tune for Carnival ❤️🇻🇨 Big Up All Ma 🇹🇹
I real excited that ya'll recognize other islands contribution to soca. I married to a Trini, born in de VI and parent's are St. Lucian. Famalay is de big tune that describes my famalay. Love dis tune.
U see, when a white person speaks, nobody says anything close to that because that's what is expected of him/her, but as soon as a black man can string together a proper sentence, the masses are shocked beyond comprehension. So yes, saying he's well spoken is a jab to his intelligence actually and not a compliment
Good interview. Yes they should have labelled "Famalay" as a Bouyon Soca when it was uploaded in recognition of the DA producer Dada's musical input. "Famalay" is definitely a great power soca theme song to represent Caribbean unity in the music for the rest of 2019! Nice one from all the artists involved!
Nice he recognize all the various influences around the Caribbean on soca... Big Up Dominica, and Big Up Virgin Islands!! VI was the first carnival I ever attended and they have a driving soca sound unique to the area. Then I went to TNT and lost my dang mind!.. And Antigua, Barbados, Vincy, St. Lucia, Jamaica, Grenada, and on and on... So much fun!!! All of it!
Thank you for the acknowledgment 🇩🇲. Your responses were so intelligent this was a great interview giving a great overview of soca and the different variations to the genre by island.

I have a lot of respect for Skinny acknowledging, that his initial thought in just overly simplifying the track as Soca was incorrect. I and many others share the sentiment that this was a step in the right direction. In reading many music social media pages, there have been heated arguments about this song and its significance in being correctly classified/labeled as, Bouyon. Bouyon music is uniquely native to Dominica, Guadeloupe and maybe some of the other creole islands with which we share culture. The reason I mention this is that some of the comments under this video show just how far we need to go, not only as a collective, as one people, but in respecting each other's differences and cultural heritage. Reggae is Jamaican, Soca is Trinidadian and Bouyon is Dominican Creole. This song is a perfect blending of Soca artists on a Bouyon track. Simple

Also thank-you for acknowledging your country of birth SVD and the other Islands. Jamaicans always wants to take ownership of any success affiliated with the carribbean.. Posted 2020 Vincy citizen:)
