I have used the truckers knot many times. So that trick of adding another loop. Is a great addition. Because no one likes seeing a loaded truck with the load slopping around. Thanks for a informative video.
I’d love to see examples of these knots in action so we can know what knot to use in which situations. This is the best tying video I’ve seen because you explain and demonstrate so well. I’ve saved this video to my favorites.
I agree the video was really good. The knots were shown in a way that was easy to understand (I've seen videos where they do it so quickly I feel like I've watched a magic trick instead of learnt how to tie a knot). I've used some of those notes but it would be useful to be told where each knot is typically/ often used. I think it will make the knot more relevant and make me remember it as a result.
Overhand knot for tying your shoes. Half hitch for tying off the end of a knot. Sheet bend for tying a lighter rope to a heavier rope, useful for throwing over branches. Slipknot for throwing up onto a tree and pulling it over. Marline spike hitch for when youre tying a bowline 😂. Bowline can be tied to anything and never slip. Alpine Butterfly Loop is useful if you want to hang things from line and don't want to have to tie the bowline with a long working end. Clove hitch is awesome for starting lashings or tying down your horse for a sec. Truckers hitch to tie down gear tightly; Bowline one end of the rope, wrap around the gear, and add a truckers hitch so it stays snug in the bed of your truck.
Remember, the most important step in securing any load is: tap the load or lines and recite the incantation "that is not going anywhere". I'm glad you included that when demonstrating the automatic trucker's hitch. Nicely done!
I am 65 years old and to this day, I still know most of these knots. I learned them back in the day when I was a 13 year old in the Boy Scouts. And it amazes me to this day that I still remember them. And I have used them for most of my life. I am so happy I spent my five years in the Boy Scouts.
Knocked it out of the park, man. No frills, a little history, and a clean index of terms and physics-driven explanations. I’m a first year climber, and now I understand the knots I use much better, from foundation up. Right on
I’m a former Naval Aviator. Knots were part of my early “upbringing” and as I get older I enjoy rediscovering many of the knots that I could, at one time, tie blindfolded. In addition to Crossword Puzzles and Sudoku tying knots is a mind challenge plus enhances dexterity in my old gnarled fingers.
No need to run your line through the second anchor point a second time. You can just put another loop in the slip loop, and it will self lock (Blackwall hitch).
You can do it in that method, but it is very hard on larger diameter rope. The benefit to running the rope back through your anchor point is two fold. First, it causes less friction on the rope. Second, it gives you a 4:1 advantage before friction loss.
I've probably watched your top hitches video 20 times by now, I can see I'll be doing the same with this one. By far the best and most useful knot and hitch learning resource I've seen yet. Great stuff thank you!
Not only is the quality of instruction phenomenal, the summary of the knots usefulness and application also exceeds my expectations. Nothing to improve.
I've been learning and practicing a bunch of knots lately and this video is terrific - probably the easiest one to follow that I've watched and very clear demonstrations. The spar hitch was new to me and I really like it, will probably start using that in place of clove hitch for most applications. The adjustable grip hitch is sort of new to me also, much easier to tie than a taut line hitch, though it seems not quite as tight to the working end of the rope and slips easily if not dressed and tightened up well.
This is GOLD! For outdoorsman stuff, a decade in the Army, and decades running a farm, the bowline, reef (square), and fisherman's knots, and the taut line hitch ... have been my go-to knots. I always tell folks, half-jokingly, that if I had to pick one, it would be the tautline. You can adapt it for so many purposes. But now you give me the automatic grip (how did I never figure that one out on my own!?!) Brilliant! And I will make time to learn that trucker's hitch. So useful. Anyway. Thank you for this.
This is the best yet. Slow enough to follow along first time round, and it uses both visual and words. I have learnt about myself that I am not so much a visual learner, but language and word-based explanations work best for me. Thank you for this.
One of the things I really appreciate about you knot videos is that you make the distinction between a bight and a loop. Most people don't and for some reason that has bothered me since I was a Boy Scout. OCD, I guess.
Thank you for the great tutorials. It would be very helpful to include the info on the best uses, or common uses for all the knots shared. Also sharing how secure the knot is and what would be added or adjusted to better secure or reinforce it if needed. Thank you!
I’ve used the trick with the truckers hitch to autolock without running back through the anchor, just going through the loop again and keeping the second line wrapped under the first to lock when pulled. worked great for me held the tension fine. I’m sure there are pros and cons to both but now I know another way too.
This is absolutely the kind of useful content I subscribed for. The video is extremely well done, and the knots are clear and easy to follow. The quality definitely shows. Thank you very much, keep up the great work.
Great video. On the automatic truckers hitch...I run the end thru the loop twice( without going back around the anchor point a second time) and then pull for tension. The rope will still lock against itself and stop from losing tension when tieing it off.
I was looking for a video to tie my shorts' rope to keep them from falling. I kinda got what I was looking for with the slipknot, but I gave a like because the automatic trucker knot looked so cool 😁.
Thank you for this kinda summary of your knot videos. It would save the effort to search a specific knot video. And your explanation is very pleasant to listen to. Your confident tone and moderate speed along with the very clear examples help following up the content.
Absolutely amazing video!! I’ve been using these knots for nearly twenty years on occasions and always forget how to do them. Your instructions are so much better and clearer than i was ever shown. Saving this video for future reference 🤣🤣👍🏼👍🏼 thank you
I am in the same situation as you, I've been using most of these knots for work and adventures, like camping and fishing for most of my life. I learned them as a boy scout and from my father as a kid. I remember how to tie most, but once in awhile I will forget and have to go to a book or TH-cam for reference. I used to watch the videos Corporals Corner did on knots, he does a good job too. But this guy really does an excellent job showing these knots! I also saved this video for reference. He will be my go to reference TH-cam channel from here on out!!😁👍👍
This is the best "dude knot " video ive seen in a minute ,lol. This has every knot so we can STOP tying a lot , hehe. Thanks for the refresher course. Best knot video ever
Outstanding video, beautifully done. The explanation and demonstration of technique make it all clear and easy to consume. This is a truly great video, and should be a roadmap for others to follow. Thank you for taking the time to create and post this. And... Howdy from Spring, Texas!
Excellent video! One knot I might have included in a collection like this might be the constrictor knot. Just a small variation of the clove hitch that is really great for permanently attaching a line to something.
Your automatic Trucker's Hitch is nice. I may end up using that. Some things I have been teaching for many years as improvements on the regular version is to use a slipped sheet bend to finish off on the center loop. It is easy to hold tension as you tie, much stronger, and is easy to untie. I also find a figure 8 for the center loop tends to be easier to untie after heavy loading. Thanks for your content!
I could not help noticing that in the Automatic Trucker's Hitch, you actually create a fall and double fall just as it would be if you were using pulley blocks instead of loops..
We had to learn to tie a one handed bowline in Boy Scouts to get our knot tying merit badge. The Scoutmaster's reasoning for this was that if you were hanging off a cliff on a rope with your feet up against the vertical wall and the rope around your waist, you'd have one hand to support your weight on the upstream side of the rope and have your other hand available to tie the bowline. To this day(I'm on the wrong side of 70....lol) it's theonly way I can tie a bowline. I never learned how to do it left handed, so maybe that should be a bucket list item during retirement.....BTW, excellent tutorial on knots!!
Thanks for this video. Had been taught that slip bunt line knot to tie my horse (at the hitching rail) at a young age. Nice to put a name with that knot. Great job on putting this video together!

I've worked with ropes and lines etc for decades and watch videos to refresh my memory. Yours is hand down one of the best sir!!!!!
I appreciate that very much, thank you.

That’s a good idea, I will try to add something.
Yeh me also very impress with that.

Throwing in the incantation makes it true Merlinspike work.

That last process in creating the automatic truckers hitch was so mechanically beautiful.

Greeting from Hong Kong. This is the best knot teaching film I ever seen. Thank you so much 😄
All these knots are great, but that automatic trucker's hitch blew my mind. That's freaking awesome.
Thank you for this tutorial! I have never been able to use twine on presents and I just did it now after watching you.😊

Best video for knots. Easy to understand and easy to see. Thanks.🎉
I'm definitely bookmarking this video because I can never remember how to tie these knots, so this will help me out tremendously. Thanks.
Used the truckers hitch for years, now I will adapt to your automatic truckers hitch. Thanks
the very through and slower way you show the procedure on tying rope knot
is the best way on you tube keep up the good work.
The Easiest and Clearest instructions on knot tying I’ve heard! Awesome Tutorial on Knotts.
Thank you sir.
Thanks so much for your illustration
Clear and well explained: this is a first rate introduction.
Best knot instructional video I have seen.
Thank you sir.
Quick. Clear. Immediately beneficial. And always handy to know. This video is as essential as all the knots it features. Thanks for this TX Tool Crib.
You’re very welcome, thank you very much for taking the time to watch.
Great video. Nice and clear instructions.
Ben, thank for your amazing automatic trucker's hitch, big big useful. Happy to learn form you.
Thank you for showing how to tie the knots and also showing applications of the knots. Much appreciated!
I love your videos! You have a great voice, very clear and your videos are just as clear..Great Job!
Amazing video
The last example was amazing. 3 different knots used in a pratical way
One of the things I really appreciate about you knot videos is that you make the distinction between a bight and a loop. Most people don't and for some reason that has bothered me since I was a Boy Scout. OCD, I guess.

One of the best knot tying videos out there.

I’ve used the trick with the truckers hitch to autolock without running back through the anchor, just going through the loop again and keeping the second line wrapped under the first to lock when pulled. worked great for me held the tension fine. I’m sure there are pros and cons to both but now I know another way too.
Yeah, I knew that version too. This one looks to bind up a bit more securely.
This is absolutely the kind of useful content I subscribed for. The video is extremely well done, and the knots are clear and easy to follow. The quality definitely shows. Thank you very much, keep up the great work.
That is very much appreciated, thank you for taking the time to watch. I hope you can find these knots useful.
What a great collection. You present each very well. Thank you
Thank you kindly!
Great video. On the automatic truckers hitch...I run the end thru the loop twice( without going back around the anchor point a second time) and then pull for tension. The rope will still lock against itself and stop from losing tension when tieing it off.
That method would be very useful if you were limited on rope length. 👍
The downside is with that tight of a turn you are not able to apply as much force.
Really well done from a gifted teacher. I learned a lot from this. Many thanks
Happy to help.
Stellar video on knots and applications. Thank you!
Thanks for demonstrating how to use the knots in real world scenario.
15:42 So that part is a marline spike hitch without the marlin spike. Great video! The spar hitch and buntline hitch are super useful.
I was looking for a video to tie my shorts' rope to keep them from falling. I kinda got what I was looking for with the slipknot, but I gave a like because the automatic trucker knot looked so cool 😁.
Fantasic. I do need to know these knots. Thanks so much. Life is a little easier now.

Nice video, the adjustable grip hitch is new to me. I think it will replace the taunt line hitch for me. Thanks!
Thank you so much. This video is nicely done, very well explained and very useful.
Great video, TOC is great,thanks!

Thx!
