    • @danbosch-
      @danbosch- 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      boil your connector for 15 minutes. The even heat returns much of the spring form to the steel pins so you do not even have to bend them back into factory shape after they are boiled clean. NEVER had this NOT work for a dirty connector with lines through the graphics, or a blinking red light/cartridge failure (if lockout chip is still active and properly functioning.

You need to disconnect and bend up the fourth leg of the lockout chip so it doesn't make connection to it's source. THAT is a permanent fix for the Blink,.. but dirty cats or system components will also cause it,.. and these new chinese 72 pins are trash.

    Just pulled mine out of the attic in 2021 after sitting in the attic for nearly 30 years. Red LED blinking. And, it blinks after game is taken out too. Is that what most would do and considered normal. For example, if the power button were pushed before a game was inserted then the light would be blinking telling you to put a damn game in, right? Then when you put a game in and it is blinking that is telling you to clean contacts? Tks

    • @RetroGameCouch
      @RetroGameCouch  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the blinking is also when you don't put in a game. If you did put in a game it obviously means it couldn't detect it. Try taking the 72pin connector out and clean it.

    Replace just the 72 pin connector. You do not need to replace everything. 91% or greater rubbing alcohol will work for cleaning contacts. Also clean cartridges contacts with a qtip and rubbing alcohol. All that blowing on cartridges people did left spit residue on the cartridges and 72 pin connector. You can also clean your old 72 pin connector and it will work as well. Mine plays all the U.S. games. You still will have to move a cartridge around on like 1% of games because of manufacturing errors.

    The cartridge setup on the American NES is a perfect example of "over-engineering". They meant well, I'm sure, but that system has caused more problems than anything on that console. The Famicon and the later version of the American NES wisely avoided that thing.

    • @slickriven
      @slickriven 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could be wrong, but I believe Nintendo went with this more VHS style insert, push down to differentiate it from the Video Game crash of the 70's that Atari brought about. Those systems all were the normal 'top-loading' setup that virtually all other systems used after, but Nintendo wanted the NES to be viewed differently. Heck that's why they had the ROB and such.

    I just bought my first NES and it also had that blinking red light. I fixed it by cleaning the cartridge connector using an old credit card inside a eyeglass cleaning cloth, dipped in alcohol.
    What I don't like about the permanent fix that you showed here, is that you can't push down the cartridge anymore. For me, that is part of the NES' charm.

  • @PhillBowser
    @PhillBowser 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This is terrible advice, you don't have to pay a dime to fix your NES. Never ever should you replace the original pin connector with a 3rd party one, especially a mod like this. Simply boil your original pin for 5 mins and then use a razor to bend the pins back up. Disable the 3193 chip on the board which removes blinking light and then it will work like a charm. 3rd party pins grip games way too tight as you can even see in this video and are made of lesser quality materials.

    • @RetroGameCouch
      @RetroGameCouch  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      But because of the hinge mechanic it will fail again eventually. That is why it fails in the first place, and why my toploader never fails. The mod I show basically removes the hinge. It's a permanent fix.

      @PhillBowser 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    NO,.. those connectors are trash,.. just bend up the pins in the OEM one until they are even,.. also the blinking light may be caused by the lock out chip, whether it has went bad or the software, like that from multi carts, are being blocked even though they have jump cards in them. You need to disconnect and bend up the fourth leg of the lockout chip so it doesn't make connection to it's source. THAT is a permanent fix for the Blink,.. but dirty carts or system components will also cause it,.. and these new chinese 72 pins are trash.

      Don't take that as criticism on your video :) I love those, it's just that here we have to pay customs on anything bought from the US for example and our dear and honored postal system charges us like 25$/20€ for the "service" of sending a letter telling us we have to pay customs before we can collect our package.

    • @RetroGameCouch

    • @GamingDad63
      @GamingDad63 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on how you see it. You pay tax on work, You pay tax on everything you buy (some stuff have a lower tax), you pay tax on fuel for your car (actually, a couple of taxes).
      I don't know how it works in other countries, but i don't think it's that much different. We have a relatively low cost on medical care due to taxes, same with dental care.
      I don't mind paying these taxes so much and i don't mind paying the import tax i would have to pay if i bought the very interesting thing reviewed in this video. It's the damn EXTRA i have to pay, just to be able to pay the import tax :( the swedish postal system seems it's reasonable to charge me 25$/20€ just to send me a letter and tell me i have to pay import tax (which i have to do if the value of what i'm buying is above a certain level) before i can get my package. I mean, that's as much as the entire thing costs! Plus a rather hefty shipping fee and the total price for this would end up at about 62$/52€. 30$ for the thing ends up costing more than twice as much :(
