  • The Ancient Lycian city of Myra and the St. Nicholas Museum (Santa Claus) can both be found in Demre, Turkey. Turkey’s southwest Mediterranean coast is home to many ancient treasures, and Myra and the St. Nick church are just two of the places you can visit while on vacation in Turkey. First we’ll explore the museum dedicated to St. Nicholas; the inspiration for Santa Claus. Then we’ll make the short drive over to the Ancient city of Myra and see the Lycian cliffside tombs and the Roman theater. I hope you enjoy seeing a little bit of what Turkey has to offer. To see more of Turkey from my perspective as an American living in Turkey, please consider subscribing to my TH-cam channel. Thanks!

The face carvings represent the masks the actors wore during performances. If you ever go back and want to see the "painted tomb" it is in the river necropolis on the back side of the hill. You have to drive past the entrance road to Myra then take the first left dirt road through the green houses and park when you can see the tombs to your left then walk between the green houses towards the hill. The "painted tomb" is accessed by ancient stairs with a drop off on the side so be aware but the fact that nobody goes there means no entrance fee and you have the entire necropolis to yourself to explore including some pretty difficult and possibly dangerous hiking/climbing if you are crazy enough.

There is a small fee for entrance, otherwise entrance is included if you have a Museum Card. I'd recommend looking up the prices prior to visiting. With the high inflation Turkey is experiencing prices change frequently, so any pricing you see now may change by the time you visit. Thank you so much for watching :)
