"It worked for me in 2020" - I was thinking about a lot of similar things today and realized that we all probably should gently remind ourselves that 2020 and the last 4 years have absolutely not been normal. Habits, routines, people that worked for us in incredibly stressful, uncertain, and unique times maybe are not what we need ALL the time, and it's okay to consider alternatives.
I like paper books sometimes, but ebooks have so many upsides: easier to store and transport, easier highlighting and note taking, searchability, built-in dictionary and encyclopedia look-ups, translations, etc. Also reading in bed with an e-reader is so nice. And using Libby is wonderful for library books. I appreciate you mentioning how backfilling is losing its appeal. I feel the same way.. usually there are other things I’d rather spend my time on. I really like the suggestion of scanning pages instead!
I do like these longer videos. It’s nice to hear how you process and to know I’m not the only one who obsesses in this way 😅 I only tried rings briefly a while ago (over 5 years), but that was before I realized what my planning/ journaling style is. I’m thinking about giving it another shot next year
Can you please film a what’s in my bag? The way you feel with your planners is exactly how I feel with mine. I can not stay put no matter how hard I try.
Team Kindle all the way! I'm strictly paper planner and love paper books, but out of sheer practicality I have been absolutely loving my kindle since I first got one 12 years ago. The ability to read a huge heavy book on the go by pulling out a light little device has been a game changer that allowed me to read a lot more then I would otherwise do. Not to mention the fact that I can practically pack an entire library for a trip or vacation and it takes so little space. Also, I totally get your struggle.. That constant hunt for the perfect system be real 😅
I love the idea of physical books: the feel of paper, flicking through pages, the beautiful covers, shelves filled with books as a small cozy home library; but I just got a kindle this week and the compact size has me gravitating towards it more than my physical books. I may be a convert!
Really great to hear you work through all the issues-relatable, and inspires me to think through my own planner hopping! Seems like landing on personal rings for “everything” and pocket for on the go with just a monthly and notes and lists pages is ideal. TFS.
I can completely relate. I get bored with my planners. For goodness sake, I was looking at a disc bound system this AM. Had the monthly been a Monday start, I would have ordered it. I hate discs! LOL. The timing of the video was perfect for me. I really enjoyed it and decided to remain in my current system-I just printed a different weekly to change things up :)
Was absolutely a paperback book reader. Until my youngest child turned out to be a non sleeper, when I realised I could read books on my phone with white text on black, in the dark, and my sanity was saved
Thanks so much Lindsey for your heartfelt video. You inspire me to journal in my personal size rings. Thank you so much for your transparency. I know we can all relate💞.
I really love hearing your thoughts about migrating between planners. I’ve always had so much shame about needing to stay in one book for the year, and then literally suffering if it wasn’t working out haha, before abandoning it all together! This video shows that you know yourself best ❤
I’m looking forward to watching this video & it’s a great thing to do on a Sunday for me. Especially since I need some downtime after having a very active day yesterday with a lot of socialising, so thank you! 🙏🏼✨
Physical book, although it’s easier for me these days in this season of life for audio books. I appreciate these type of videos 🖤 very relatable: thanks for sharing.
loved the video🥹💜Really interesting to hear your process of planner hopping...I have the same "problem" at the moment of getting a little to stressed and hopping into another planner/notebook, its fun in some points but I find it stressful too because I hate "I am unsure what I need" feeling...hope that makes sense hihi✨
PS: I just got my first Moterm pocket in the 📬 the other day, and I’m in the process of figuring out my setup in it now & will be continuing it after watching this. I first was in a Moterm personal size in Oct of last year (when I first got into ring planners) & then changed it to an A6 (which I really like) & managed to resist the temptation of trying out a pocket one for quite a long time, but then I couldn’t resist anymore, so you’re not alone. ✨
Im in the whirlpool of trying to figure out my system as a newbie with probable adhd in my 40s.. thank you for being honest about the mental gymnastics good and bad we can go through!
I've had a kobo e-reader for years now and I really like it because it's so portable and I get to take infinite books with me without my stuff getting super bulky 😋 though I like reading a paper book sometimes.
I’m a BIG Kindle person simply because I need to read more than one book at a time. Always a history book of some kind, a true crime book, and a wild card. I’m a true nerd so have to make myself read fiction. That’s only possible when I have them on my Kindle. I also love Audio books because I need to listen to something while I paint/ draw. Really the only physical books I now own are my art books or reference books. Moving cross- country multiple times has helped me stay true to that as books, for me, are the worst to pack and move.
Love your rings content! I'm still going strong in my A6 rings. I keep getting tempted to set up a pocket EDC, but I just have that same contentment and ease in my A6 as you describe with personal. I prefer paper books, but I love my Kindle for reading in bed at night without disturbing my husband!
Love your videos and your honesty Lindsey! I love your daily inserts too would love them for my discbound setup but I’m in half letter which just enough of a difference from A5 to bother me. Do you think you would ever offer half letter inserts?
Let me explain how this all started,.. drops 5 cousins on the desk 😂 I am glad you are feeling comfortable in your personal. Could you add your pocket pages to your personal? So you can acknowledge the switch but have it all in one place? Then you wouldn’t have to back fill. And I’m 💯 a kindle ONLY person. I don’t like physical books.
Your planner hopping reminds me of how I handle my hair. Having long hair bothers me... and yet I let it grow out until I'm anxious. Then I finally cut my hair, and I feel so much better. I've realized I do that to myself to maximize the good feeling once I get my hair cut. Which, I'm pretty sure I'd just feel better if I always kept my hair short instead of waiting until I feel soooo uncomfortable before cutting my hair. And yet, I find myself in that wave. I wonder if I make it easier for me to get my hair cut, then I will do it sooner? That's what I'm working at right now.
I love paper books but I get so distracted by reading the older I get that I can't justify buying or checking them out from the library. I also can't justify a Kindle purpose although the FOMO is real! I love the convenience of my iPad for Kindle, Nook, Libby, and Fable apps for reading; when I
Hey Lindsey, first of all, congratulations on your birthday and all the best. ❤ I find your planner very interesting, especially this system all in one. Since you also keep memory keeping with photos as dailies in your ring planner, but only three months fit in it. How do you keep track of the past months? With a hardback book like Hobonichi it's somehow easier. You don't use weekly pages except for your work, right?
Omg, I’m the exact same way! I could have made this video because I do this all the time. I’ve been a bujo person for the past few years but I think I am outgrowing it… but if I even look at them from the past few years I get all nostalgic and before I know it a new one is on its way to my house…. 😂 right now I’m in a hobonichi weeks, but an a6 or passport common planner is calling to me…
I’m a kindle girlie for traveling, hardcovers, library loans, and books bigger than 350 pages (I have really tiny hands lol) and then I’m a physical book girlie for everything else
Ebooks are just more practical, I read on my phone so I don’t have to lug around any other devices or books (I love the thought of using an ereader but I haven’t had a lot of luck with it)
I really struggle with rings as I find them too restrictive when I'm writing. I have to take the inserts out to write and get fed up of taking everything in and out. I'm in a Moleskine flexi cover standard size lined notebook just because it's easy to kind of brain dump in and it's comfortable, but I agree some of my pens don't like the paper. I also tried a TN - of ALL the different systems, which do you love the most, or is that the world's worst question? I just ordered a Hobonichi Weeks for my appointments etc, so use the Moleskine as my 'dear diary' type log with photos etc. :)
Hi Lindsey! No idea if you read comments this far after releasing a video, but I have an idea for your pocket rings. For context, I am a hobonichi user. I use a cousin as my “daily dashboard” - All of the pages in the book are used as a daily log (I have an intense office job). I generally do not use this book for planning ahead as I prefer a blank page at the start of each day. Which brings me to my idea. In addition to the Hobonichi cousin, I also have a Hobonichi Weeks that I use to “write notes” to my future self. Non-routine appointments/deadlines are recorded in the monthly section. Due dates, important todos, and general notes to myself are written on the horizontal days, and then “allistair-style” todos are written on the weekly blank pages. This is a notebook with very few rules - It simply is a place to catch all of things that clutter my brain so that I can release them and focus on the work at hand. My workflow is then divided into two stages. First, at the beginning of each week [ideally] I transfer events for that week from the Weeks monthly pages into my cousin-style vertical weekly time-block calendar. I then “check-off” that week in the Weeks monthly - I’m done with it and don’t have to refer to it again as I will work from the vertical time block calendar during the week. Second, on a daily basis I transfer any todos from my Weeks horizontal dailies/allistair checklist to the daily page in my cousin. This serves as my “daily dashboard”. For the rest of the day I refer to my Cousin daily only to plan and work through my day. As I work in my Hobonichi cousin, my Hobonichi Weeks sits ready and waiting if something comes up and I need to write a note “to my future self”. My Hobonichi weeks is also what goes with me to meetings or lunch with friends to facilitate planning. I enjoy it because it makes my workflow very tangible since each book as a different purpose. But I also love it because it allows me the enjoyment of working with both a Weeks notebook and a cousin notebook. Another bonus is that I get the reflection exercise (analogous to what backfilling might provide) as I move things from the Hobonichi Weeks to the Hobonichi Cousin, but rather than having to copy verbatim, I’m taking all the notes I’ve previously written to myself and reshaping them into a daily plan. Anyway. I could see some version of this workflow allowing you to use both of your rings planners simultaneously. Using the pocket rings for “notes to your future self” and non-routine calendar events would give you the fun of working in both notebooks without the claustrophobia of being restricted to the pocket rings for everything. Thanks for sharing your experiences on this channel. I’ve really enjoyed watching over the last year.
Happy belated birthday to you Lindsey! 🎉🌸 I am late watching this very enjoyable vlog. I have questions, where were you able to purchase your Gillio? And is it a Personal Wide? Also, you mentioned putting your 25mm gold rings into it? If so where did you find the 25 mm ring spine assembly and how did you attach it to the inside of the Gillio? Also, are you using Personal size (?filofax?) inserts or? And do you have a specific hole-punch for this six-ring? Thank you Lindsey for your channel!! I deeply appreciate learning from you!! I’m in my 60s and I’ve had a stroke so I’m not as tech-savvy as my younger friends. Thank you Lindsey! ~kari, west coast Canada
Oh dear, I hope you are well, arthritis is something very serious, it is degenerative and the diagnosis is important, I hope you are well. Wouldn't it be easier to pass the mini 6 sheets to the personal directly instead of rewriting everything? It's your planner, if that doesn't bother you, I think it's an excellent option. This is what I do every time I use my mini 6 and i want to write something, I know it's not 100% compatible, but I put washi on it and punch again or definitely cut a part of the sheet and that's it.
Hi Lindsey 👋 back in February, I found 2 practically brand new Filofax Saffiano minis for $4.98 a piece! I was so excited, but I'm struggling to collect what I might need for my first ring set up. I know I need a hole punch and some more inserts, but can you suggest what someone that's new to the ring planning community might need to be successful? Love your content! 🩷✨️
I think overstimulation by too many options is a thing. Do you really get anxiety from a planner or is that an excuse to justify change and planner hopping because you’re bored? In my honest opinion setting boundaries and sticking to them is an active choice that I have to make every single day. Could I make my planner method better? The answer most definitely would be always yes, but choosing to stick to the same planner and make it work for me is what I actively choose. At the end of the day for me it matters more that I’d rather have 1 planner with blank pages than 6 different planners that have a few pages filled each and are too difficult to reflect a single year through them.
I'm a kindle reader mostly thede days, the thick physical books are so unwieldy with everything hoing on, and i dont love storing books. I do borrow quite a few physical books from the library and read alot for my kids so we have shelves of books still.
Please share where your PVC cover for your standard sticker release insert is from! I have been looking for one that is not hand sewn. I have been extra careful when using it to avoid it getting beaten up 😆
How do you feed your love of the mignon (cute things) and your planner peace? It’s a dilemma but may get to the balance that will help you feel contented.
I can’t watch you and two other planner TH-camrs anymore it’s like you guys are bouncing off each other and it exhausting. It actually increases my planner perfectionism paralysis if that even a real syndrome lol. I miss you and your videos and I hope you find stability soon so I can enjoy you again.

You have the best rings content! Enjoy your Plotter!
So cool hearing about your process! Glad you ultimately chose something that makes you feel happy and secure! Also yay for the pocket size PLOTTER!

and they are what my soul needs in terms of aesthetics and minimalism 🤙

me too! reading on my phone with a baby in the middle of the night was the only way I survived 😅
the perfect video at the perfect time :) i just ordered my first personal rings system and i can't wait!!
I hope you end up loving it!
I’ve been using personal rings for almost a year now. I started my own small business and they go with me everywhere❤

Hi! What kind of paper do you print your printables on ?
@lindseyscribbles love hearing the thought process. Have you posted the 2x4 photo pages on your website? I haven’t been able to find them…
Hi Lindsey 👋 back in February, I found 2 practically brand new Filofax Saffiano minis for $4.98 a piece! I was so excited, but I'm struggling to collect what I might need for my first ring set up. I noticed the same thing about the A4 paper vs the letter. Smh
I need a bag that fits my a6 rings too

Oh my, I rewatched the video and it's a passport sticker release insert that you have - not standard! I got so excited 😅
kindle cause i dont have to physically find room in the house for a book.
How do you feed your love of the mignon (cute things) and your planner peace? It’s a dilemma but may get to the balance that will help you feel contented.
The Filofax Norfolk pocket size has 25mm rings, and the personal size has 30mm rings. Just saying :)
Kindle for me
I think I’m warming up to mine. Especially with an impending move but I miss filling back by hand etc
Same. I stopped watching their accounts in February until I took a peek today.
I wish I knew how to stop planner hopping. It's March 2nd, and I've started, like, at least five (though, primarily used only two).
Same 🤣 my hope is if I don’t bring a bunch of options in it’ll settle down. But I’m sure I’ll find a way to change it up
I love the way you film your videos but unfortunately all your anxiety kind of got to me through this video, so I won’t watch until the end sadly :,(
Understandable for sure! 🙈💕
Why? 😢 it has a happy ending 😅
It’s like watching ‘The Notebook’ (pun intended). You’ll cry, but you’ll enjoy it. Or at least, I do. ❤
