His mom MeiXiang is in het 70s in panda years. I believe smithsonian said her fourth pregnancy and delivery. She is a champion and tuning in to see her skills it's amazing how much you can learn. Total enjoyment for sure.vyou actually laugh. How long has it been since you laughed?? Enjoy while he is here in USA. We can't get up and close yet in DC because of covid. Can't wait.

Miracle 1. mama pregnant at the advanced age of 20 Miracle 2. cub was conceived with frozen sperm from Tian Tian from 5 years ago Miracle 3. cub thriving during an out of control pandemic The very existence of this a little panda cub is nothing but a miracle. So everyone vote for Xiao Qi Ji, Little Miracle because that is what baby cub is.
This baby panda cub is a Little Miracle (Xiao Qi Ji) because the zoo artificially inseminated Mei Xiang (mama panda) thrice if not more previously but failed to get her pregnant after separating her from the previous third cub Bei Bei at 18 months and somehow in May 2020 this year during this pandemic this little miracle happened and the artificial insemination was miraculously successful! {anyway it was sad when I watched the separation of the previous cub Bei Bei from mama panda Mei Xiang in a youtube channel called 'Their Turn' at the video named 'Forced Separation of Panda Mother and Nursing Cub...' It could be a dilemma for the zoo too as pandas are highly endangered species and only found in China and scientists in China or in some zoos in other countries could be working hard to save this species if not for any zoos interest in profit making} [Panda Diplomacy: China lent two of their pandas to some zoos in some countries on diplomacy goodwill provided they pay China $1million annually and probably help with saving this endangered species through 'breeding programs' which can be through scientific means a.k.a artificial insemination if not naturally as it's not easy for panda to mate as the mating season is rare and it's somehow not so easy for the male panda to connect its reproductive part to the female panda] I just hope this new cub which I gladly choose the name Little Miracle Xiao Qi Ji for him will not have to endure such separation from mama panda Mei Xiang at such an early age anymore as Mei Xiang is already 22 years old which is considered old for her panda age and from the videos it shows pandas (or most animals especially mammals) have feelings too looking at the great effort of mama pandas show so much tender loving care and attention to their cubs (even humans fail to do so at times when bringing up their kids). So kudos to mama panda Mei Xiang for having brougth up 4 cubs (eventhough she had to endure separations from her previous cub so that the zoo can artificially inseminate her again which some may think we should not argue much since the zoo give the pandas good shelter and food that satisfy their animal needs but lacking in the area of taking into consideration the trauma caused to the mama panda and her 18 months old cub when they were forcibly separated....perhaps we can think positively of the zoo's effort that it's also equally important to save this panda species from extinction)
At least we do have good news for this species. Ever since the rise on popularity of the species (it's a good thing they are so cute), efforts were made and their numbers grew a lot (both in zoos and in natural reserves - which also serve as a haven for many other species). So much so that they are no lknger classified as endangered by some lists (they are now vulnerable). And on this pace, they will be of least concern. Hopefully. Let's keep protecting them and other species as well. 😃
Oh no .... it sadness me soooo much yo even think of the separation between mama panda and her baby. This is the first time I follow her process of being a mommy right from the birth of the baby. At times I have wondered how such milestone is achieved in nature in their own habitat? Like if the babies grow a certain age and leave the mom? It makes me sad if the baby is separated sooner than she would expect, but that’s me and my feeling and in reality there are many circumstances in which it’s for the best for the baby or the mom. That’s been one of the greatest lessons of life I have learned. That sometimes LOVE as in being physically present is not the most beneficial route just because it’s the best intended. Sometimes part of a mother’s love is letting go for the sake of betterment and it’s a sacrifice but it’s made with love also.
saw another video and the remarks in the comments about the separation of the previous cub at th-cam.com/video/Q9WbT-OFsfI/w-d-xo.html...and one can sign a petition organized by PETA in 2015 that ban the cruelty treatment to these pandas
I'd name him Fu fu which means Xing Fu also and easier to pronounce and call. unfortunately it's not on the selection list. BTW I named my last cat Fu Fu.
I have been watching the Panda Cam all day and have not seen Mei Xiang go into the den for hours to check on her baby, Xiao Qi Xi. Is it normal for mom to be away so long? Doesn't the baby need to nurse? Where is mom?
Please the zookeeper to care of the baby's mother Mei Xiang. She really needs human's care but we never saw anyone care of her even she was uncomfortable and pushed the baby away from the panda cams.
Cha Serry the zoo vets are always checking Mei also. The vets are not going to let anything happen to Mei or her little cub. For all that matters they take great care in all the animals. China would not allow the zoo to continue with the pandas. If anything was going on.
SNZ is top-notch in providing care to animals under their care. Zookeepers genuinely cares for the animal. They are experienced and well-trained. Stop sowing hatred!
