Driving Miss Daisy was probably my first introduction to Morgan Freeman. He and Jessica Tandy did a fantastic job making their characters such a wonderful pairing. I agree that in many respects they could have been a married couple. Thank you as ever for another enjoyable reaction, it's appreciated.
A great movie indeed. I had somehow forgotten so much of it. Glad it was suggested to you. Like watching for the first time all over again. It surely stands the test of time. Thoroughly enjoyed this. Thank you. And good to see you're still making good use of the R2D2 mug. A nice little message in your intro as well. Gave me well needed food for thought - much appreciated 🖒🖒
Jessica Tandy was an amazing actress. One film that I grew up watching (constantly) that she gave another great performance in was Cocoon (1985). She stars alongside Hume Cronyn, Don Ameche, Wilford Brimley, Brian Dennehy, Steve Guttenberg... the list goes on. And it was directed by the director of Apollo 13, Ransom, Splash, Parenthood, The Grinch, A Beautiful Mind, Backdraft... (too many films to list) Ron Howard. Add Cocoon to your list, please.
@@AwesomeUSMovies Please find Cocoon. Someone will have to send you a dvd. True or not I'm not sure, but allegedly the movie studio has lost the masters. Cocoon is the holy grail of movies.
So at 28:10 those were signs of Dementia/Alzheimer's. When older folks start reverting back to memories from when they were younger. I'm a nurse and see it a lot.
James!!!!! I am always excited when you do a "flicker show"(John Coffey) that I love. You never disappoint!!! Keep em coming.....AND..... Let a brother know how to suggest a movie. I got one you would love.....if'n ya ain't seed it already.
I add all suggestions on TH-cam comments to my list. The list is very large but it still gets added. You can also skip the line and pay for a private request. More info on Patreon.com/awesomeusmovies
Such a wonderful film - thank you for reacting to this little-seen gem, filmed in the neighbourhoods of Morningside and Little Five Points in my native Atlanta. If you liked this, you simply must react to Fried Green Tomatoes (starring Jessica Tandy, Kathy Bates, Mary Stuart Masterson, and Mary Louise Parker. It’s another fantastic movie about friendship.
I watched this movie when I was about thirteen with an older woman who had went to the South with like the "Freedom Schools" movement. She was once arrested for sitting in the "Black section" of a movie theater as she was determined to watch the film with her students. She was an eccentric old lady, but she taught me a lot. She passed a few years ago. But I'm glad this was listed more as a friendship movie as that's what it is to me too. That and a movie about growing old. Two people become unlikely friends and remain such for decades. Still I have seen some who act almost angry to it because they think it's supposed to primarily or solely be an anti-racism parable. And to an extent it is, but I like it does that in a quieter way than some. And the friendship is key. (Green Book tried to do something similar but to my disappointment it didn't work for me because I kind of disliked both those guys and the "white" dude at times felt like a broad Italian stereotype. Miss Daisy is Jewish but she's not like using Yiddish phrases all the time or whatever.) As I think you got a sense of she's upset her son is hanging out with Episcopalians because she likely fears, not without reason it seems, he's doing it to fit in with Christian businessmen. There is some history of Jews being pressured to become Christian, maybe not relevant here, but also of Jews who decided to distance themselves from Judaism or even Jewish culture as a way to succeed. Some Hollywood moguls intentionally married Christians or took stage names to look or sound "less Jewish." This was maybe a bigger issue in the era this is set. Oh and Krispy Kreme looks to date back to the late 1930s and had a store in Savannah, Georgia in the 1950s.
Yeah she reminds me of my late grandmother too. She was an amazing woman but could be a blunt at times and use words (Ethnic) that she didn't realize were offensive. And if she misplaced something she was sure that someone stole it. She died two years ago a week short of her 100 Birthday.
1994 Nobody's Fool is Jessica Tandy last movie it also stars Paul Newman and Bruce Willis. You will very much love this movie just going by what you say about this movie. It was up for alot of awards back then...watch on your own or do a reaction. Just make sure you watch this hidden gem of a movie you will very much enjoy it.
If you're still looking for recommendations, 1985's "The Trip to Bountiful" has some similarities to Driving Miss Daisy. And its lead actress, Geraldine Page, also won an Oscar for her performance.
The movie won the academy award that year but sadly Morgan Freeman did not. Morgan Freeman and Robin Williams for Dead Poets Society both lost that year. Morgan Freeman has soooo many great movies. I would love it to see you react to Lean On Me.
This was my great grandmother's favourite movie. Her boss was jewish she was maid and her boss would leave money under the rug to see if she would clean the house, properly and steal it. She never stole always gave the money to her boss.

I had never taken the time to watch this movie probably because I was in my late teens when it came out and it did not appeal to me. I had seen Jessica Tandy along many other older actors a few years prior to this however, the movie is called "Coccoon".

Such a good movie. I always did love Jessica Tandy. She’s also in Fried Green Tomatoes and it’s wonderful, too!
Actually I've already reacted to that movie. It's only a full reaction on my Patreon. It hasn't been released to youtube yet.
@@AwesomeUSMovies I look forward to it. She was also in Cocoon, another heartwarming movie.
This movie has been unfairly derided by many. I always loved it. The filmmaking is BEAUTIFUL. The performances, the music are perfect.
Winner of 4 Oscars including Best Picture
Both are outstanding.
It won 1990 Oscar and Jessica Tandy won one, too.
I paint flowers on my grandparents' headstone. my grampa made me promise.

That’s sweet ❤

This was originally a Broadway play. They did a great job of adapting it to the screen.
The original production in NYC was as an Off Broadway show. Only the revival with James Earl Jones was on Broadway
I was too young to understand this film when it came out, now im old enough to respect it.
Rest in peace Jessica Tandy.

Great reaction! Another Dan Aykroyd dramatic film I highly recommend watching is "My Girl" which also stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Macauley Culkin.
Yes it’s nice to see a real movie without action and shoot outs . A real story, real actors!!!

James would probably like some more Jessica Tandy… Cocoon and Batteries Not Included come to mind.
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
@@AwesomeUSMovies "Cocoon" also won Don Ameche an Oscar. He was the Duke brother with the mustache in "Trading Places."

Idella was played by Ester Rolle known for playing the mother in the 70s sitcom good times ty for reacting to this.
Thank you, that was bothering me because i couldn't place her!
Close … but Miss Daisy sure wasn’t a little girl!!😂
I wasn't that far off. Just about 50 years or so
if you like this film try Guarding Tess… Nicholas Cage , Shirley MacLaine

Another movie with the legendary Jessica Tandy is "Cocoon"(1985). You can also call it a friendship movie. I think u will love it!

no explosions lol. could you imagine the Michael Bay version of Driving Miss Daisy, specially with cars and driving involved
6002 fruit stands would be sacrificed for Miss Daisy in act 1

Driving Miss Daisy won the best picture Oscar in 1990 beating out Born on the 4th of July, Dead Poet Society, Field of Dreams and My Left Foot......

Now you should watch The Help. It would be a great follow up to this movie. Same premise but from a different POV. I think you’d find it interesting.

Jessica did the movie "Birds" in Alfred Hitchcock. Played Rod Taylor's mother.😊😊
Cocoon 1& 2. "Batteries not Included".

You actually had it right on the nose, all except for the _age_ of the title character in question. Literally EVERYTHING else you said was correct.

I find this movie difficult to watch. How many times did Morgan Freeman say, Aw, Miss Daisy?" Yuck.
