  • A song from West Germany advocating for the recognition of East Germany, which would later be achieved in 1973. The titular characters of "Krupp and Krause" are a reference to an East German film of the same name, of which "Krupp" is a further reference to the monopolist Krupp Family.
Performer: The Munich Song Group (Die Münchner Songgruppe)
    Year recorded: 1970
Image: Flags of West and East Germany.

Monopoly is actually a really good analogy for what sociology calls social systems and how the rules of the game we're in - currently capitalism - determine how we will tend to act (though not guranteed). Under capitalism this means always striving for short-term profit, acting "greedy", though of course this is just a tendency and there will still be some people who, say, donate to charity etc. This is why people sometimes think that it's our "nature" to act greedy only and cooperation is the exception, but it's in fact just that we're not used to anything else since most of us spent their entire lives under capitalism so far.

Reading his comment again now, he possibly meant that GDR patriotism wasn't against other countries and that it was the only German patriotism to be this way - which would also be wrong since it was against the class enemy i.e. the capitalist i.e. "western" society and nations in itself.

@@GabeNsApostle Yes, but thats explainable. In the GDR there was a law for mandatory labor, if you were physically and mentally healthy you had to work. For those with certain medical conditions or a lack of training/education, there were programms to list in, were you worked at different locations on different jobs during different times of the year (sry for bad English) for example in the winter you would clear roads that are covered in snow, in summer you would help harvesting potatoes, that kind of stuff. But these could change dramatically depending on things like economy or even the weather when those people weren't needed anymore. Also because all companies were run by the government, they close down/ upen up factories pretty ruptly.

    • @Narwaro
      @Narwaro 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

That is because many people there worked for only a couple of hours every day and were sent home afterwards. Its unfeasable to have 8 workers working one hour a day instead of one working 8 hours so unemployment surged. Its not about the bad western system with its bad economy, its about socialism not having enough work for all.

    • @aumann0452
      @aumann0452 3 ปีที่แล้ว +239

@@Narwaro That did happen but the fact that socialism doesn't provide enough work is a straight up lie lmao. The GDR had a massive lack or workers, they even had to get workers from their socialist brotherstates, mostly Poland and Asia. If you look at almost any socialist country you will see that they have very low unemployment or none at all because it is far easier for a socialist government to provide unemployed people with training, education and jobs in government owned corporations.

Una profonda spaccatura attraversa la Germania.
    Divide la nazione -
"Non è una novità, certamente -
    Ma di interesse!
    L'esempio "Krupp e Krause" spiega
    il vero corso della
    divisione tedesca - ascoltato! -
    Come una domanda di classe!
    Perché Krupp è un monopolista
    e Krause è un proletario -
Questa è l'opposizione di classe che
    tutti capiscono!
    tutti capiscono!
    Cosa produce Krause ogni ora
Vale più di cinque marchi -
il valore aggiunto è raccolto da Krupp
    Perché la fabbrica è una!
    E migliaia di colleghi sono
    come Krause ogni giorno -
Mr. Krupp prende sempre il valore aggiunto
    come plusvalore !
    Perché Krupp è un monopolista
    e Krause è un proletario -
Questa è l'opposizione di classe che
    tutti capiscono!
    L'economia è tesa?
    Il mercato del lavoro
    si chiama Krause »Partner Krupps«
    Perché poi è richiesto!
    Ma l'economia è torbida
    La situazione di ordine flau
    Poi minaccia Kraus in
    licenziamento, riduzione salariale!
    Perché Krupp è un monopolista
    e Krause è un proletario -
Questa è l'opposizione di classe che
    tutti capiscono!
    riconoscimento GDR !

It is completely relative term depending on where you live and has a different connotation depending on who you talk to. The issue was not authoritarianism. The issue was the degeneration of so-called "socialist" states.
I'm sure there are plenty of dogmatic romanticising fools in this comment section but let there be no mistake; The "communism" we saw for the most part in the 20th century was that of a corrupted yoke. Democracy was not present whatever (though personally I've no issue with that), commodity production was still heavily present though in the hands of the state, party officials were not held to account for the most part unless in cases of opposition to the party.
In all, it is pretty fucking stupid and downright sad that so many "communists" get so dogmatic and zealous in their strive for communism that they end up supporting regimes that had no intention of reaching that goal, merely protecting the rule of the party no matter how corrupted and warped from its original intention that party became.

Well I am a big critiziser of the GDR because I think there was a lack of democracy and freedom (which is not only the GDR to blame for) and a lack of socialism for a so called socialist state. Yet this song actually describes the problem of our modern day very well.

Why do you even need fredoms stretching beyond personal ones?

    • @JacktheRah
      @JacktheRah 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Because freedom is what makes socialism. There is no socialism without freedom. And when the masses aren't free then the person isn't free either. If we just replace capitalist oppression with a slightly red version of oppression we've gained nothing. "Freiheit ist immer die Freiheit des Andersdenkenden." "Freedom is always the freedom of dissenters." - Rosa Luxemburg, founder of the KPD.
Equality can only be achieved through freedom and freedom can only be achieved through equality.
So why freedom? Because it is what humans have been thriving for since the very beginning. When you have a full stomache then you can be free to do what ever you want to and be creative and actually help your personal sanity.
