Exactly he himself has said it, he knows he’s not the greatest card trick magician ever and anyone who loved magic knows that the true art in what he does is the interaction with people and the reactions he gets thats what he enjoys most, and as a audience we enjoy it as well cause we get to vicariously experience it through the audience
It's the little things. The way he does that super cool card switch at 0:33 and then immediately puts it back on the deck so you don't notice the double card and then picks up just the top card and turns it over in his hand a few times. It looks so natural and like he's not really conscious of it, but every bit has been worked out.
You can actually see how he does the trick... It's so clean, but you can see all of it, how he changes hands, how he cuts the deck, how he replaces the card in his hand, it's super clean.

I know we can all see how he did it. The thing is, this was done back in 1997 when the internet wasn't really a thing. Nowadays, we can look up slight of hand on the internet and figure out pretty quickly how he did things. At the time, no one had done a primetime magic show focused on street magic and very few people were privy to how these kinds of tricks are done. Magic, at the time, was done on stage by David Copperfield and others. It was smoke and mirrors. David Blaine literally changed the way magic was done with these simple slight of hands tricks.
Perhaps one of the easiest of his tricks to see but still so expertly done especially with all the angles. The camera could have worked in his favor if it didn't go down for the switch but nonetheless that was smooth. The street magic thing is a lot harder than older magic where many performers sat behind a table and had a lot less perspective on how the tricks were being performed and the magician had a lot more space to hide things. This had to have taken a lot of practice even though reviewing it you can see how it was done. Even just the card trick itself aside from the switch from the torn card to the folded card is a tricky thing to learn. All that on top of having short tight sleeves.
Always some guy showing off their google skills and pretending they had it all figured out on their own. I suspect they're also the guys who intentionally give away plots twists to people, as if having watched something beforehand and telling others about it is a marketable skill.

He forces the 2 of spades, he has a duplicate of it on the top.He asks the lady to put it in the middle.He does a doublelift to show the Ace of clubs on the top (while having the 2 of spades behind it).He then puts back the 2 cards and rips of the card that is supposed to be the Ace of Clubs but who is the 2 of spades(he gaves it to the lady afterwards).He then takes the other 2 of spades from the middle of the deck(the one that the lady picked(forced)) and put it face up on the top of the deck where there is the ace of clubs.He then does a doublelift so he has the 2 of spades and the ace of clubs in perfect position to do a spin color change.He does the color change, making the 2 of spades beautifully change in the ace of clubs(he drops the 2 of spades on the top of the deck).He then shows that the card in her hand is the 2 of spades.He flips the deck face up while showing the Spade 2 in pieces to the camera so he can fold the card on the bottom (the 2 of spades) without anyone seeing(cald the mercury fold).Smoothly he switches the 2 of spades in pieces with the folded two of spades and make's it change into a folded card.

There are a lot of different force techniques in magic, but the classic force is the hardest since you're literally just asking someone to pick a card like normal, but you try to manipulate them by putting the card you want them to pick closest to their hand hoping they don't try to be sneaky and just pick the first card they touch.

There was duplicates of the card. the first time blaine shows her the wrong card, he is actually holding the right card under it with a double lift. Then he folds it back to the deck which brings the right card on top which is the 2 of spades. He then tears it and gives to her. So the cards switched at that point. Now he does some trick to engage her mind into believing that the switch was a magic. Opens her hand, reveals the card then again switches with a folded card. See the hands changed..picked it up with the right hand, placed the card with the left hand. I dont know how he selected the right card though.. Probably some other trick.. Things happen so fast which is the expertise of David Blaine with cards. A person in that situation cannot even think about a switch because David has got her full attention. But still you can't ignore his commitment towards his work. Lots of practice and hardwork finalls pays off..😇😇
I'm not going to because that's the beauty of the trick, if you can't spot it the first time it shows how amazing he is at what he does. Mind you this is the same guy that broke world record for holding breath under water a couple years ago. He works hard for all his performances. Kudos to him.

Okay, that was the first time that I ever caught him out & saw how he did it. But she was too distracted to notice. But if you were an onlooker you would have seen what he was doing with his hands. I think because he is comes from street magic where people mess up the routines a lot and he has to improvise to come up with new outcomes in the spot. So it stuck with him from his earlier days.

there were two 2 of spades lol. My question is really how did he force her to pick the 2 of spades. My guess is he would have done some other trick if she chose a different card or something
@@ianrust3785 Could be wrong about this but I believe David Blaine really perfected the classic force. There are a lot of different force techniques in magic, but the classic force is the hardest since you're literally just asking someone to pick a card like normal, but you try to manipulate them by putting the card you want them to pick closest to their hand hoping they don't try to be sneaky and just pick the first card they touch.

then pulls out the 2nd card from the deck.
then while diverting her attention towards the camera.
slyly folds the 2nd card n holds it at the bottom of the deck with his left hand.
gets the torn 1st card from her in his right hand n places it at the bottom of the deck.
n places the folded 2nd card in his left hand.
into her hand.
end of the trick.
He hold the pieces in his right hand, then he handed her the card from his left.

lol i immediately spoted that he holded the ripped peaced in his right hand but gave her the card from the left hand and holded those ripped peaces underneath the deck of cards :P

There was duplicates of the card. the first time blaine shows her the wrong card, he is actually holding the right card under it with a double lift. Then he folds it back to the deck which brings the right card on top which is the 2 of spades. He then tears it and gives to her. So the cards switched at that point. Now he does some trick to engage her mind into believing that the switch was a magic. Opens her hand, reveals the card then again switches with a folded card. See the hands changed..picked it up with the right hand, placed the card with the left hand.
I dont know how he selected the right card though.. Probably some other trick..
Things happen so fast which is the expertise of David Blaine with cards. A person in that situation cannot even think about a switch because David has got her full attention. But still you can't ignore his commitment towards his work. Lots of practice and hardwork finalls pays off..😇😇
I'm not going to because that's the beauty of the trick, if you can't spot it the first time it shows how amazing he is at what he does. Mind you this is the same guy that broke world record for holding breath under water a couple years ago. He works hard for all his performances. Kudos to him.

So I dont understand how he got the ripped 2 of spades in her hand, but I did see where he switched the ripped pieces to a full card and put it in her hand. It's actually amazing.
Switched the ripped card to crumpled one at 0:48, see Tyra not looking in his hands but straight to his face that's why she didn't catch it.

Okay, that was the first time that I ever caught him out & saw how he did it. But she was too distracted to notice. But if you were an onlooker you would have seen what he was doing with his hands. Normally this guy just baffles me. But that trick seemed basic. A little bit of practice & anyone could do it. The rest of his stuff, I still have no clue.

IF you know how the magic is done.... the Key moves are done so fast that even the 2nd and 3rd time you have to pause and slow down the speed to get what he's doing, he does an incredible job, and you think anybody can do it?
