Upon watching this review I went out and got a hero 4 silver for £208. Casey made me realise I want the screen but also made me see that the difference in image quality is minimal so I saved £140 and purchased the silver

QProJoeQ went on ebay and found new G4 for a good deal, haven't received it yet so hoping it will be as described..
Daniel Belcher the Hero 4 Silver does not have the same video specs as the Hero 4 Black being used in this video, hence why it is cheaper. The Silver does have a touchscreen, but the compromise is it can only record 4K at 15fps which isn't really usable, as well as lower frame rates for all other resolutions. Still not a bad camera though for £208

The image I just slightly more saturated and contrasted opposed to the 5 which has a more flat profile, but that makes it better to color grade

Video Quality is compressed by youtube. That's probably why you can't notice any difference either that or you're not watching at the max quality this video was originally exported in.

Ugh! You did not use the image stabilization on the Hero 5 , one of it's new features. This would set it apart from the Hero 4 Black. This was about as useful as your Mavic review when you didn't know how to work the focus.

Jake Parco No, only in 1080, that's how it able to digitally stabilize (it crops it down). It's like using "Warp Stabilizer" when editing in Adobe Premiere Pro. I actually saved some footage I sold to the New York Times with that feature. There is something to be said about digital stabilization in a pinch ;)

Hero 4 Black and session 4 yielded better image quality for me, save your money folks. Against the 70D all the gopro's got smoked. Great editing, man you put a lot of time into each vid, massive respect..

Yeah, after looking at the footy, this is the first time I'm going to skip the update and stick with my Hero 4 Blacks... though I think GoPro did a great job of minimizing some of the pain points for non-professional filmmakers, and it'll be a great camera for someone looking for their first action cam :)

As a father to 4 children, 2 in their mid to late teens and 2 in their single digits - I'd say to Casey ... Hey man, spend more time with your daughter. We love you doing this stuff and as a videographer myself - I know how long this stuff takes (especially if you're vlogging and editing every day), but a small word of warning... kids grow up real fast and you're gonna miss all this time you've not been around her when she's grown. It's why I work from home now!

Beau's Toy Farm he does he says it a lot. We only see 10ish minutes of his day. The rest he's either hard at work or with his family. He also always complains if he doesn't spend enough time with her.
Oremoose You see him for 10 minutes sure - But if you had any idea how long it takes to set up shots, film them and especially assemble and edit, you'd know it's more like 10 hours out of his day!
I'd still disagree for a few resons 1. He has a Guerrilla shooting style, which keeps the shots quick and sweet one takes, 2. he has mentioned and showed in the past he edits after the baby is in bed for the night so total time would probably more around 4 hours a day, 6 at most. 3. He has also mentioned in the past that he puts priority on his family. So i would take his word for it and say his family life is A-OK.
The older generation have a better quality in my opinion.

Hero 4 is a darker picture then the Hero 5, and then the Session 5 is an easy win over the Session. Honestly its between the Hero 4 and 5, and I say it depends when and what you are filming.
EDIT: The Hero 5 is sharper then the Hero 4
Slightly, I would say. I only bought a 5 because when I purchased my first, it was the Session4. The IQ sucked on it, grainy and muddy looking with too much contrast most of the time. I promised myself when the new ones came out I would jump on the Black ed. And man, what a step up. Even in 1080p the Hero5 Black blows the Session 4 out of the water with fine detail. I'd say if you already have a Hero 4 Silver/Black, absolutely need 4k capability, or really just have to spend 400 bucks to get the nicer touch screen then there's no point to upgrade. Otherwise, if you don't have one and want to get into the GoPro ecosystem, it's a great first jump! If you have a Session 4, well...The 5 has been proported to be better even at 1080p, but I have no firsthand exp. with that.

6:48 the Hero 4 Black seems to have capture the golden hour light much better than the 5. The 5 just seems a little washed out at this stage.
Then at 7:00 the session 5 seems to have better colour definition that the hero 5.
7:14 still the hero 4 seems to have the best colour
The Yorkshire Dad best for us but not true so if you want to edit your video and color grade, you should take the 5. It will be easier to calibrate with other footage from DSLR

Looks like a different settings. For example Protune mode is colourless without post processing but more ajustable with it. If that is so comparsion is not correct.
the hero 5 has HDR. that means that the image looks brighter in general. In some cases, people find the pucture more satisfying

The Hero 5 looks like it's designed for post production color correction. the blacks are lifted so the editor can better tweak colors and contrast.
Casey is my second fav vlogger but my all time fav is @BostonVLOGS like I love him because he is local to me and the way he puts his videos are so creative. He is so underrated. Such a shame that he has so little subs

Hero 4 handles brighter light better, Hero 5 handles lower light better. Hero 5 seems to have a slight different aspect ratio. Hero 4 has better color saturation. Same differences seem to apply to the session units. Not very impressive for a new model. The user interface you mentioned is a big update. Maybe that was the main focus of the new version. Thanks for the comparison.
VideoCast714 agreed, but im still stuck between hero 4 & 5, i like the color saturation on the hero 4 but having a waterproof hero 5 w/o a case + touch screen is a major bonus, but video stabilization wise which do you think is better? at some clips it seems 4 is better than 5 but some parts 5 better than 4, maybe his stands werent screwed in right? but like to hear your opinion on the stabilization
i would go for the 5 if ur tech savvy

i think what happened is (just my guess) that GoPro used to try preserving highlights (sun/bright sky) i.e. by underexposing the darker bits. that is the trend/technique used by many photographer/videographer. [in short, you rather push shadow brighter and get a noiser image than try to recovery overblown subject which will turn grey as you try). but this also means it needs a bit more work in the post (on computer). However as pointed out, this also means the subject (not as well lit as the sky, as normally the main focal point) is rather dark. since most gopro users won't edited on computer afterward, i think they made the decision to do the opposite with the 5's. you can see both 5 black and session are brighter than the older models. this means the main focal point.subject will be closer to correctly exposed at the expenes of overexposed highlight. The colour saturation difference is a result of the exposure value being different on older model and 5's.
