The reason they don't show you the history of these polls after Reagan is that for 20 years people have been dissatisfied with the country's direction. You could say that every president after Reagan had the highest disapproval of the country's direction rating comparatively. For ages they have been presenting their views as to what is best and it is always two views that are polar opposites and if each party decides its platform by just picking whatever is opposite of what their opponent argues. The parties themselves have evolved over time to do this. All they do is filibuster. They never agree on anything as if agreement is impossible to achieve. Yet they always disagree just as a matter of principle. And voters vote party. Lichtman's keys are not wrong, but his own interpretation of his keys has not factored into this election the odd way Harris became the candidate, the double assassination attempts on Trump (which has swung a lot of the male vote to Trump), and the impact of the economic situation (Lichtman underestimates this impact, imo). His keys also don't factor an immigration crisis, which is unique to this election and very high on voter concerns.

And from what I have heard from his aides and cabinet members, they talked Trump out of A LOT of dumb stuff. This time around, Trump will be more confident about what he can get away with, and will pack his cabinet with "yes" men. It WILL be worse, most definitely as he caters to corporate interests and gives even less of a crap about the common man.

The reason they don't show you the history of these polls after Reagan is that for 20 years people have been dissatisfied with the country's direction. You could say that every president after Reagan had the highest disapproval of the country's direction rating comparatively. This poll does not represent a disapproval of Harris but the way the government is running as a whole.

Yes and Congress is at fault for that. For ages they have been presenting their views as to what is best and it is always two views that are polar opposites and if each party decides its platform by just picking whatever is opposite of what their opponent argues. The parties themselves have evolved over time to do this. All they do is filibuster. They never agree on anything as if agreement is impossible to achieve. Yet they always disagree just as a matter of principle. And voters vote party. So whatever the Republicans are pushing this cycle is what my parents believe and support because they follow the Republican party everywhere. Their agreement is pre-determined. If Trump decided to be a democrat when he ran, my Republican parents would have hated him from the getgo instead of supporting him and then changing their entire belief system as his platform got more extreme. Just because he is the candidate of the party they pledged lifetime support to since Reagan. Me, I used to always vote democrat to defy my parents, then for their stance on equality (like abortion is for others). For decades I have not wanted to be associated with either party though. Congress has been broken a long time. Now Congress has completely broken in half and not functioning at all, and it has divided a country into hatred. Thanks to Trump but not only trump. All those people supported him when they knew better.

He will need to adjust his keys after Trump wins. Lichtman's keys are not wrong, but his own interpretation of his keys has not factored into this election the odd way Harris became the candidate, the double assassination attempts on Trump (which has swung a lot of the male vote to Trump), and the impact of the economic situation (Lichtman underestimates this impact, imo). His keys also don't factor an immigration crisis, which is unique to this election and very high on voter concerns.
