    Beginning of video was funny af. I like how spontaneous and relaxed you became and especially when you edit video in such a way that we see imperfections and grind. Well done Tom.

    I'm a girl who does Muay Thai since I was 16. What gets me motivated is the adrenaline and the calming effects after training.
    I adore my sport and it kind of makes me feel like a superhero, a badass (even tho I'm not saving anyone). I'm breaking stereotypes and being able to do this sport while some girls in other countries can't makes me feel blessed to live in Belgium.
    I watch your videos because I like to mix my days off with fun stuff. And I need to get my split (got injured recently so..). Thanks for the content it really is a pleasure. If you ever come to Belgium, stop by the Kurosaki club ! :D

    Great video, tackles subject seriously instead of all those narcissistic motivation BS videos.
    For me basically, in your life it should be about improving oneself with realistic expectations on all levels, also physically so Mens sana in corpore sano. Also after a workout you feel great. Hardest part for me, is to keep my food intake balanced and healthy ;-)

    Me I had a knee injury that was never fixed up properly despite all the physios, osteos, PTs so I took it into my own hands to fox up. YIKES I made every mistake in the book, made it all a lot worse but I've learned a ton since and I'm turning the corner and that's what motivates me, the joy of free movement and that I can work it out for myself with the help of people like you, of course!

    "You can't peak perform all the time" - something I forget. Great vlog tom :-) a bit off topic, but I am very interested in the various different ways you earn a living. You seem to juggle alot and do it well. I would love a video on the advantages and disadvantages of being self-employed and how to go about starting it all in the beginning, maybe? Bc if you think about it you have sort of designed your own career. I would love to know what you see yourself doing in the next five years etc. Keep up the good work!

    For me motivation means sucking it up and getting it done. Doing it right is the best motivation. And your vids inspire to get it done.

    If you have heard of jocko willink, he has a great podcast and talks about motivation being (obviously) derived from the word motive, as in what is your reason for taking action? If you remind yourself of the reason you may find you feel inspired to take action, rather than wondering why you don’t feel excited to work towards a goal that may not mean that much to you anyway. Rather than focusing on the feeling of desire itself, which is fleeting and unreliable.

    • @BodyweightWarrior
      @BodyweightWarrior  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah of course this makes a lot of sense. The reason itself has to be a powerful one too

  • @diquepiques3921
    @diquepiques3921 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think an important aspect of motivation has to happen inside. I also think by setting goals it makes your motivation and ambition to achieve something more tangible. However, "motivational videos" do usually have the wrong type of goals. I'd say (at least for the Netherlands), most of the guys go to the gym just to look bigger instead of setting a physical goal. For example If you want to achieve a 100kg deadlift and 80kg benchpress or do 5 consecutive muscle-ups, your goal is much more tangible than "grow as much as possible".
    Furthermore I think characteristics of a person are very important as well. I really enjoy to grind for something to finally be able to achieve it. I like the challenge :)

    • @BodyweightWarrior
      @BodyweightWarrior  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is true. I think ultimately it comes to how deep the goal is. I would argue that aesthetic goals are potentially quite shallow or not as meaningful long term than others. Finding something to work towards that really resonates with you is key

    Love the vlogs Tom. In regards to motivation I agree with you. I’m a believer in the power of inspiration over motivation, meaning I try to stay in the company of those who inspire me, and as a result I push myself simply to keep up.
    My other driver is to be a role model for my kids, and not to be one of those “When I was young” or “when I saw your age” parents. In short to lead by example.

    • @BodyweightWarrior
      @BodyweightWarrior  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely agree with that last part. People are very happy to relive the glory days of what they used to do rather than choosing to take action now. Rate that

    Hey there, Tom!
    I have a question for you that doesn't really have anything to do with this exact video, but I would really appreciate it if you could answer it anyway.
    I recently switched from classic weightlifting over to calisthenics, and what I've been curious about is this.
    I've been told that you shouldn't train opposite muscle groups at the same time, but isn't that an unavoidable side effect of doing calisthenics? It seems to me that one very often trains both biceps and triceps, or the pack and lower back simultaneously(etc).
    Are the dangers of doing this overestimated, or is it something I should try to bear in mind?
    Greetings from Norway👋
    Really like your channel, keep it up!

    Progress is definitely the most motivating factor for me, and the most important one! Recently felt a lack of progress in my training and it is very depressing..
    How long do you think one should stick to a program before switching it up from lack of progress?

  • @TheMilesHarbin
    @TheMilesHarbin 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Tom,
    Long time viewer, love your stuff. I just had a question about heart rate variability. I started using the app you recommended but I’m still a little unclear about rest days. Can I train if my reading is good even if it means training two days in a row? Or do I still need to give my muscles and CNS time to recover? If I’m getting a good to go reading the day after training does that mean I went too easy on myself?

    • @BodyweightWarrior
      @BodyweightWarrior  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheMilesHarbin yeah the reading is an indicator of recovery. If it’s not affected too much then maybe you could handle more the session before and therefore get a better training effect.

    I gotta admit that I love bodyweight training most of the time but some sessions - i hate it (especially handstand sessions) because nothing works. i figured out that calisthenics is a kind of workout which is continiously humbling. but that is why i love it. It shows me where i am currently standing without cheating and stuff like that and I don't even want to MENTION the flexibility part haha. And the community is kind and helpful as hell

    Hi man, I’ve started doing more bodyweight training over the last six months after watching your videos. At the moment I incorporate bodyweight stuff with the bodybuilding style workouts. Is it possible to maintain decent size while depending less on the weight training?

    • @BodyweightWarrior
      @BodyweightWarrior  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it’s easy to maintain size. It’s just resistance at the end of the day. If you train for size you will get size :)

    What kind of carry over does the one arm handstand have? I've flirted with the idea of learning the OAHS but can't see much carry over from learning the skill considering how much time you need to invest.

    • @BodyweightWarrior
      @BodyweightWarrior  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do the one arm handstand, that the reward haha. It’s also given me some strong ass shoulders which has helped improve planche and HSPU. The time required is a lot though...

    • @TysonE
      @TysonE 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha, yeah it's definitely impressive but time required compared to practicality seems lopsided. One arm chin/pull on the other hand carries over to pulling strength i.e. a more complex mastery of the mechanisms for pulling. For OAHS I don't see what it can uniquely improve that handstands and barbell presses can't. Open to hearing suggestions :)

    Hey Tom, its kinda offtopic so sorry. I havent exercised in a 6 months or so so i lost a bit of strength. I cant think of 3rd pushing exercise in my "program". Im doing push ups and tricep ring extensions only. I cant do ring dips and i hate bench ring dips haha idk how i just dont like it. So should i be doing something like scapula push up or?? What exercise would you recommend?
    Any advice is highly appreciated.
    Edit: pulling exercises are not a problem, i was always stronger in those.

      R.B. Actually nice idea. I dont know how i didnt remember that. So maybe just something handstand to wall or? Im not interested in balance spectre yet, i just want some shoulder strength. :)

    • @r.b.4611
      @r.b.4611 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're just after strength rather than all the coordination stuff that comes with the full free handstand then for sure just spend as much time in the position against the wall as you can. Watch Tom's video on HS progressions to see the proper form.
