I am seriously jealous of your sister!!!! Both for having a fabulous green thumb and for probably being the owner of the GORGEOUS painted orchid card! Well, I'll bet the she can not paint such amazing images. Her beautiful living flowers will eventually fade away...your could possible last an eternity...hmmm. Valerie P.S. Thanks for totally making me all giddy with joy...I can not wait for this tutorial to become available! I will definitely be purchasing it! ;)
I love how loose and organic you are with watercolors. I want to learn. You barely touch the paper and end up with something beautiful with seemingly no effort. How long does it take to get to that point? If I was going to start out with the pencils - which ones would you recommend - the inktense or the regular ones?
I think the inktense are best and I saw the set of 72 on amazong for $64 directly from Derwent, I've never seen them lower! They currently are cheaper than the regular watercolor pencils. The key is not to fuss with the paint, and knowing when to stop:)
Beautiful painting. I'm like you with plants, flowers etc. My first husband stopped buying me real flowers or plants for holidays and anniversaries and started giving me artificial flowers in beautiful collector vases, but my family use to joke that I could even kill artificial flowers. LOL This past Mothers Day, the local Boy Scout troop gave each of the women in my building an African Violet, mine was (notice past tense) a beautiful pink and within 2 days, it was dead.
Another great video. Thank you Just wanted to let you know I had my Granddaughter watch some of your videos with me and she also thinks you are amazing. : )
Lindsay, If you thought it was crazy to be in 2014, I didn't see this until May 3, 2017! Yes I am getting older but it is much better than the alternative. Thanks for sharing your art with us. I wish I could draw and paint. I am limited to coloring books! Art wasn't offered to boys when I went to school. We had to take mechanical drawing! I do have watercolor pencils so I am going to try to paint a picture or two and see what happens. I may surprise myself! Who knows? All the best, Sean
You are so very good with watercolors, among many other things... Do you by chance stamp organza bags? We have no experience and hope for your guidance. ~ Thank you
Don't you have the colors already. Whey buy the same color in a block form? I have found that 12 set ones. do not have must colors you use on your projects. I did play with watercolor last night and did a few koi. I kept getting a red wash every time I touch the koi. I did add water to the color to lock it in and dried it and it still did it. I just picked it up and made the water washs that water washs helped a lot. So I did see the blocks 12 set at Michael's last week. Maybe I get some open stocks of the colors I am needed. Going to see if Jerry's has them. They will be a great price there.
Don't you know that I clearly need my head examined? I almost orded them the other day from Blick becsue they had a good coupon and the more you spent the more you saved (again, I need my head examined) so the price was down to $95 but I waited and now they are out of stock....and I can't buy the smaller tin if I know there are 72 colors, it is all or nothing with me...so it will probably be nothing LOL!
very cute...I love the speckles...when I do any with acrylic painting (well painting is what I call it lol) I do them also...can I ask what the M stands for? thanks
Lindsay: Can you please tell us how the Derwent Aquatone and the Creatacolor Aqua Monolith compare? Besides the Creatacolor being harder, and less likely to break?
I prefer the Aquatone, they seem to be a bit softer and release color more quicker (they liquefy more quickly) I'll be using them in my next tutorial. The aquatones seem like a step between a watercolor pencil and a watercolor crayon where the Creatacolor Aquamonolith are more like a traditional watercolor pencil. They both are a great value I think because they seem to cost the same as regular watercolor pencils but you get all color, no wood, so no waste!
Ah... Thank you. LOVE the orchid by the way. I have a collection of real ones too. They require so little attention, and are the only thing that I can keep alive. Besides the one kid, and two dogs. LOL
Yeah inktense block; I've only seen them in a metal thingy with 24 colors, not 72. I love mine and I'm saving for the aquarel pensils from derwent. Do you have any experience with the pastel pencils from Derwent? If so do you like them or would you like another brand beter? Love from the Netherlands
I have their pastel pencils, they are very nice and they have a thicker lead than most other brands, they are fairly soft but resist breaking as well. They are my favorite pastel pencils, in fact I let my kids use my other ones. I have the set of 24, not sure if they come in a larger kit or not. I think the set of 72 blocks is new, not all stores have them, they are sold out on Blick so I guess i will wait because I can get them cheaper there:)
hey I know this is a odd request, but I was wondering if you could do a review on the Van Gogh student watercolor tube paints. Im thinking about either getting them or the Cotmans. I have looked all over and I cant find a single review of them. at least not one that actually shows the person using them, or even a finished painting with them. it would be a huge help.
I've used the Van Gogh watercolors in the past and the Cotmans are much better, the Cotman colors are more bright and transparent and a better value for what you get:) If you have the choice get the Cotman, they are made by Windsor and Newton and they don't make bad paint:) Nothing against the Van Gogh, but between the two get Cotman.
Ok, thank you so much. the only paint that I have used up till now was the ones at Walmart. the daler-rowney simply line. and I don't really like them as much as I did when I first started. but I think when I get new ones I will use the rest to make a travel pallet, cant let it go to waste. lol
Love this !!! & the fact that you paint & draw upside down... so that it is faceing the viewer & it looks that good.... I could never do that !!!
