GRRM confirmed in his blog that Tessarion and Daeron weren’t cut and that they just couldn’t fit him and Tessarion in season 1. So he was written off as being fostered in old town for the first season. He should make an appearance in further seasons
Perhaps Daeron is being fostered down in Old Town and away from count at King's Landing because he doesn't look like King Viserys and doesn't have the same hair colour as his brothers and sister. The Hightowers might have felt it prudent to keep him away so that no one at court picked up on the fact the Queen Alicent also might have been 'playing away'. While I know the show isn't canon, given we know there's been input from GRRM and Meleys is significantly bigger than Caraxes (or at least bulkier), I think it's safe to say Meleys is the elder of those two. Plus, Caraxes' egg was placed in the cradle of Prince Aemon, whereas Meleys was claimed by Alyssa when she was 15. Not many dragons were being hatched in this time period, given the few of his children Jaehaerys even allowed to ride dragons seemed to prefer to claim already hatched dragons that had previous riders (Vhagar for Baelon, and Alyssa originally wanted Balerion). So I think it's likely Meleys has a few years on Caraxes, hence why there was no egg hatched in Alyssa's cradle, but despite this lull in hatchlings there was one ready to go. Most likely, Meleys was placed in the cradle of Jaehaerys firstborn son Aegon, who died three days after being born. Given Aemon was effectively the firstborn due to Aegon's early death, it's likely being the firstborn son is why Jaehaerys chose to hatch a dragon from Aemon's cradle, so the same logic would apply to his Aegon.
