+James Rouse I remember I saw that skit the night it aired, and how funny it was and still is, great memory indeed James. I miss my Dad everyday and it's been more than a year that he has passed......... great memories indeed James!
+RetroGuy76 Hi, it's Dr. James' wife, Debra here. It was my dad. My maiden name is Grossinger and my dad changed his name legally to Holliday some time during his acting career, but he was originally Fred Grossinger. Thank you for commenting. I was there when he filmed it. I was young but I still remember.
Sometimes he couldn't. See the clip on "sis-boom-bah" for proof of this. He was helpless with laughter (as is Ed McMahon) even before he delivers the punchline ;D
Still just as hilarious as it was when first performed. I feel lucky - I was watching the show that night and laughed just as hard tonight as I did that night.
I didn't see it live, but my dad taped (betamax!) all his shows to watch on the weekend. We watched 3 or 4 more times that Saturday afternoon, we were laughing so hard.
I watched that episode the night it originally aired as well. I laughed so damn hard that night. It was shortly after that I discovered the works of Abbott and Costello. Thank you Mister Carson!
Wish I had said this ... the humor, if one could call the late night hosts “funny”, it is worn out, without depth or style, and politically based which rarely elicits laughs except by those of opposition to the subject of the “joke”.
you mean back when late night was more derivative and less funny? Which classy moment from Carson do you miss most? Was it when he was getting peed on by lizards? When he threw an axe at a silhouette of a man's penis? Or are you just too stupid to separate class from slovenly devotion to your lying orange god?
Reagan was also an actor and he knew these people were just doing their job and not to take everything so personally. Political figures have always been made fun of throughout history. Reagan was also an adult.
This and Carol Burnett's "Went With The Wind" are 2 of my all time favorite skits. I've bookmarked both of them. When I am having a bad day with work, I watch this and l grin for hours afterwards no matter what comes along.
i remember when this skit first aired. With all the things we heard about President Reagan at the time, it goes to show how skilled the writers were to do a take on the Abbott and Costello Baseball skit. and Johnny's skill at comedy, he was a master. i almost fell out of my seat laughing.
Carson was best of the best late night variety show host. There will never be another Johnny Carson in TV history ever again. RIP Johnny, you are missed very much so.
On Carson's 23rd anniv show, he said Reagan had a great sense of humor, & that when he sent Reagan this video clip, Reagan sent it back autographed 😄. My #2 fav president.
Johnny did another skit where he played Ronald Regan again. At one point he call for a person to come and help him with something. This was the same actor as in this skit. Johnny called "Jim, would you come here?" He responded with "Yassir." Johnny was so taken aback that he had to check the cue cards to make sure no one was pulling a fast one on him. His expression was priceless.
We watched this with my family when I was a teen. My father laughed so hard, he had an asthma attack and dropped his cig in the chair. Between taking care of him and getting water to put out cig, we missed the ending. So glad I found this decades later to see how it ended lmao My dad's two favorites, Johnny and who's on first. I miss Johnny so much. There will never be anyone like him again 😭❤️
Lol, I get ya... They just don't make comedians like they used to. I miss those days. Mom & I always watched the Dean Martin celebrity roasts while Dad was at work, then they watched Johnny Carson after Dad got home while I listened from my bedroom :-) Just watched this and almost had an asthma attack too. Good thing I was already "inhalered up" with all the scheduled doses beforehand - whew! :-) Johnny's Copper clappers just about killed me though, seriously (yes, you can die laughing, but what a way to go! :-D ) Hope you have many great memories of your father and may you have more good times to come.
you know i think i actually remember that. who? that. what? no, that. you remember who? what? what's the clearance clarence? what's our vector victor? roger roger. uh? who? what? THAT!
Now that was funny . Not trying to be for one side or the other. Just plain good fun . I'm sure President Reagan also got a good laugh over this one . I just couldn't stop laughing . I also needed that . Too much bad news these days , everyone hating on someone else .
I’m no Reagan fan at all but credit where credit is due, he could take a ribbing with the best of them. Go find the Don Rickles roast of Reagan at his Inauguration, it’s genius
I am glad you found it. Pass it around. It is a classic comedy bit and one Johnny himself said was his most requested skit. I wish all those watching would just see it for the comedy it is and leave out the profanity and political comments (which I have just gone through and deleted). Thanks Neal for finding and enjoying it.
I only found this a few months ago and think it's absolutely hilarious. The naturalism of it makes it so believable. Where the Abbott and Costello routine was kind off sledgehammer this is more subtle. Like the original it's pure classic humour with not an insult in any of it.
I love that skit, I bought the entire Jonny Carson set just to get that particular episode. Plus the one's with Joan Embry, and Jim Fowler. Glad I found this video. thanks Patti Ellsworth😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😅
crazy thing is i rarely could stay up that late cause of school so if you missed this you never saw it period! THERE WAS NO HIGHLIGHTS OR RERUNS OR EVEN "CLIPS" ON NBC THEY DIDN'T DO THAT BACK THEN, ONE TIME SHOT & DONE. CANT EVEN IMAGINE THAT NOW & ITS GREAT 2 C SO MANY YEARS LATER, THANK YOU!
This is the way Saturday Night Live handled satirizing the president back in the '70s, gently with real humor and without a knife. Very enjoyable and a nice take off on the classic "Who's on First."
THIS is how you do comedy about a Sitting President. Class, President Reagan was known to call Mr. Carson at least 1 tome a week to talk as they were very close friends and always thought that Carson's Jokes about him were hilarious. He knew He wasn't trying to disrespect or hurt the President. I won't give the late night host of today the Honor of even mentioning their names in the same breath with Johnny Carson.
This was as good as you will find. Johnny was not really known as a comedian or an actor but even professionals today would find it hard to match this standard.
This is my dad, Fred Holliday playing along with Johnny. One of my favorite all time memories of him.
Oh, wow. How cool!
+James Rouse Wait, seriously? Words cannot attempt to describe how lucky you are!
+joinmarch76 My wife, Debra's father :)
+James Rouse I remember I saw that skit the night it aired, and how funny it was and still is, great memory indeed James. I miss my Dad everyday and it's been more than a year that he has passed......... great memories indeed James!

Carson’s writers were at the top of their game here. Hilarious.
Agreed! Great writing!
Very clever writing. No wonder late show hosts have been trying to copy Johnny ever since
Yep...you can say what you want about Carson but he had some great bits. His writers deserved more credit than they got. MF in PA
This was actually a Who's On First homage
Would anyone know the names of the writer or writers of this skit? Someone is asking on another version of this video.
Carson actually makes a pretty convincing Reagan. I'm impressed.
He was the best! The three clowns today are useless!
i guess I am quite randomly asking but does anybody know a good place to watch newly released movies online?
What a hoot!!! Thanks for sharing a good 👍 laugh
But Tommy Smothers makes a pretty convincing Carson.
This doesn't age. It's hysterical!!
I have seen this one.I don't know how Carson could play that so deadpan without just cracking up.
Sometimes he couldn't. See the clip on "sis-boom-bah" for proof of this. He was helpless with laughter (as is Ed McMahon) even before he delivers the punchline ;D
This was great and a great tribute to Abbot and Costello. I loved their 'Who's on First' routine and the rest of their comedy sketches.
Still just as hilarious as it was when first performed. I feel lucky - I was watching the show that night and laughed just as hard tonight as I did that night.
I too was watching this the first time it aired and am laughing just as hard.
tradewins Yes, I did too.
I didn't see it live, but my dad taped (betamax!) all his shows to watch on the weekend. We watched 3 or 4 more times that Saturday afternoon, we were laughing so hard.
Yep.. was watching that night, as well.
Also was watching night he went across hall to see Don Rickles for breaking his box.
I watched that episode the night it originally aired as well. I laughed so damn hard that night. It was shortly after that I discovered the works of Abbott and Costello. Thank you Mister Carson!
Probably, the best sketch of Johnny Carson. Love him.
the one he did on Walter Cronkite was funny too.
Sis boom bah has to be on the conversation
One of the funniest Carson skits ever! Brilliant!
Classic Johnny Carson awesome ! He will put happy tears in your eyes !
The writers should get credit of this classic. Just about as good as "WHO'S ON FIRST"
I hope they got credit for it.
Carson was great, Reagan was great, Carson playing Reagan is phenomenal!
Reagan was great if you care for drug dealers
@@dennissmith2233 Drug dealer? What have you been smoking?
Johnny Carson is and will always be the greatest TV host. I watched this sketch live and will never forget it. It's a classic.
This is great...I can watch it again and again just like the original routine...Abbott and Costello...and Carson...true, classy performers!
Back when late night was funny and had class.
Especially no political propaganda
Wish I had said this ... the humor, if one could call the late night hosts “funny”,

@Big Bill O'Reilly Watt?
As a former actor, I'll bet President Reagan laughed his head off at this sketch.
Andy Anderson And because he was a lighthearted guy.
Yup, yup, yup. Bet he didn't remember it 30 minutes later.
absolutely
Hairway to Steven Indeed... Reagan was a leader who dabbled as an actor, whereas the current guy is a dabbler acting like he knows how to lead.
@@WilliamRWarrenJr If it was anywhere near that last debate you sir are correct.
I would love to have seen Reagan's reaction to this skit. There's no way he could've missed it.
+steeveomatic I bet he loved it.
Reagan had a lot more self confidence and thicker skin than our current occupant of the WH. Oh and he realized all presidents get mad fun of.
steeveomatic; Petfect impersonation. 😂🤣😂
Really, he had a thicker skin than the latest four or so presidents.
Reagan was also an actor and he knew these people were just doing their job and not to take everything so personally. Political figures have always been made fun of throughout history. Reagan was also an adult.
Reagan must have loved this.
He liked being lampooned as long as it was clever and clean.
Reagan had a great sense of humor.
He was probably laughing as hard as could. Nancy also loved good clean spoofs of Reagan.
Reagan - if he could remember - probably sat thru stage-performances of Abbott & Costello. Or heard it on the radio, at least.
This still cracks me up like it did when it first aired. I REALLY miss Johnny.
This and Carol Burnett's "Went With The Wind" are 2 of my all time favorite skits. I've bookmarked both of them. When I am having a bad day with work, I watch this and l grin for hours afterwards no matter what comes along.
Glad you enjoy it!
Yes! Carol Burnett! That "curtain rod" dress was one of the biggest laughs I've ever had.
"Who's on First" is one of the funniest jokes of all time - I still laugh every time, and that includes all the parodies of it like this one!
i remember when this skit first aired.
That make-up was just phenomenal.
You can see that the audience grew up with the Abbott & Costello and knew immediately where this was going.
This was going nowhere, Reagan was, swimming with What.
Hilarious! And not done with an ounce of animosity. Carson & Reagan were great friends. Just Carson being brilliant and I bet Reagan himself loved it!
President Reagan had a great sense of humor and did not mind having someone poke fun at him.
On Carson's 23rd anniv show, he said Reagan had a great sense of humor, & that when he sent Reagan this video clip, Reagan sent it back autographed 😄. My #2 fav president.
Thanks to TH-cam, the best of everything is not lost forever, anymore!
This is one of those videos especially for us who grew up with JC and RR
Late night TV was worth staying up for back then.
My grandma introduced me to carson when she bought the best of vhs tapes for my mom one xmas. Great time and put me lightyears ahead of my peers.
Now that's good television!
Rather than repeating - er, reciting - the timeless classic, this was a great rendition where creative minds realized the time was perfect for this.
One of the greatest comedy skits ever! I can't there are 153 people who dislike this? They must be great fun at parties. This is comic gold!
What are these 👎 numbers you speak of. Think Al has something to do with it
This really was some brilliant comedy writing.
Johnny did another skit where he played Ronald Regan again. At one point he call for a person to come and help him with something. This was the same actor as in this skit. Mick Funny I was hoping someone else could do that since I haven't had any luck.
Here is the actor his name is Fred Holliday
www.imdb.com/name/nm0391050/
No kidding?! Where is the video? I don't remember that one and would LOVE to see it!
Johnny Carson was the master of reactions. One look from him was enough to crack the audience up.
This is funny stuff. Not mean spirited or snarky like todays late night stuff.
I remember watching this as a kid and laughing my head off.
THIS WAS HYSTERICAL... SO GLAD TO LAUGH AT SOMETHING. THANKS FOR SHARING
The best carson skit ever along with the copper clapper caper .Boy do i miss johnny.

I love comments like this where people are being introduced to such a classic for the 1st time. It was originally aired in 1982.
NEVER gets old!
I don't usually laugh at skits but this one got going a few times. Great stuff!
Political satire without an agenda. Incredible.
Hmm... They're making fun of Reagan's dementia... does that count as an agenda?
Jet
Did I mention the 80s?... I was talking about Johnny Carson and his writers.
Jet
Are they swaying you?
Jet
So?...you don't answer questions... who has the agenda?
That last question was rhetorical ...
LOL! I had never seen that before. There will never be anyone else with a sense of humor like Johnny Carson.
Glad you got a chance to see it.
That might just be the greatest skit ever. Perfection!
Johnny was the best.
Good old days...
Will never see this type of humor again I suppose.
Anthony Atamanuik as Donald Trump.
It's funny but it's also an Abbott and Costello rip off. Who's on 1st etc.
and no one was harmed in the making of this skit.

Carson's skits were brilliant comedy, man!
As an Aussie, I never knew who JC was. When I see clips like this, it was very funny. Thank you.
He was such an unassuming comedian.
One of the greats. Don’t know if his like will ever come again

Try the original. Abbott & Costello. "Who's on First"
Absolutely CLASSIC and Carson makes a good Reagan!! ;-)
This was a great version of the “Who’s on First” skit. Very well done.
Almost as good as "who is the band on stage" for pure comedic value, and a superb performance by both gentlemen.
