what a lovely service to have for Sri Krishna. More people in ISKCON need to learn about mrdanga care, or even how to make them. Thank you so much for these videos prabhu! Srila Prabhupada Ki Jay!
This series is really informative, thank you so much for making these videos. So is the ground rice acting like a kind of glue so the clay sticks to the skin better?
I didnt made the video till the end of the procedure because this day I was leaving for Delhi. What this mridanga-maker told me was, that you make something around 7 layers on each side. Just on the high side you put on the last 3 layers iron-powder. The low side is just clay-powder and rice and water, nothing else. The important points to take care about are to make the structure after finishing each layer and to break it when its dry. The crackles are important for the movement of the skin.
Thank you for the info! I do not understand how to break the layers when they are dried. Did he do that when he hit mridanga all around surface with his pestle or when??? I need to know that because our mridanga needs urgent repair.
@aikifighter to be frank, I don´t know it really sure. Our centre is not far away and I think I could ask somebody to go to this man. Unfortunately I had to go before it was finished. I will try to get you the answer.
powder of Basalt rock -> sounds interesting although there almost everybody will tell you "iron powder"... but it should be easy to check it out via magnetism ;-) I have some powder at my flat in Berlin and I will try out if its iron or not. Gauranga Mahaprabhu and Harinam Sankirtan ki Jay! Do you have any information about "tuning"? Because there I guess you can make many errors.
@AnInflux The materials I can tell you exactly, the mixture for the lower side is JUST clay-powder, rice and water, nothing else. The high side the first layers are also just clay-powder, rice and water. Just the last 3 layers are with iron-powder to help this side to have a higher tone!
Dear @mukunda7 the iron powder I think you get it like that anywhere in India, outside of India I´m not quite sure where to get it. The clay-powder, this man told me is "pulverized Mrdanga" so if you have a real damaged Mrdanga over there, just try to bring it to some place where it can be grinded. In case someone, somewhere needs iron-powder or clay-powder, maybe I could organize shipping to other countries as our centre is near from this mans shop in India. In case write and ask ;-)
@alllmega no, unfortunately I had to leave for Delhi but it goes on like that. Several layers on each side and only on the high side there will be some iron-powder.
