We like him because he represents that part of us that actually believes if we "work hard enough" we can play alongside LeBron on the Lakers... Which isn't true for 99.999% of us.

He said it himself: the Pistons and a few other teams would have drafted him, but he and his agent already had the deal with the Lakers, and they specifically preferred that situation. He told teams, if they drafted him, he would refuse to sign. He and his agent prioritized being in the right situation, especially after being in the wrong place in college, initially.
As far as the lack of recruiting out of high school, he said by not playing AAU … it pretty much makes you an unknown quantity. I guess college scouts and coaches only watch the big AAU tournaments, nowadays.

Been watching him since he was on the South Bay Lakers in the G-League. I knew that he was gonna be a solid role player but with how he's playing, he's a solid *starter.* A lot of casuals (and lowkey racists) say that he's only getting hyped because he's on the Lakers and is white, yet that cannot be further from the truth. Dude is actually a reliable scorer and defender. Not to mention that he's sneaky athletic and has some handles with the ball. The hype is deserved, especially since he's undrafted and was expected to be a benchwarmer. For those that are skeptical, PLEASE do yourself a favor and watch him play.

75% of the hype is because he's in LA... any other team besides maybe GS and no one knows his name.

Once again, all those overpaid GM & coaches still don't get it. Sports IQ and work ethic are much more important than the rest when choosing the great player.

I don't understand why you wouldn't believe Austin Reaves would turn down the Detroit Pistons at the 42nd pick. The Pistons were only offering a two-way contract, so there was NO benefit whatsoever to be drafted by Detroit.
If I could choose between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Detroit Pistons for the same, exact contract, I would choose L.A. every time. Rob Pelinka also told Reaves he would ONLY get the contract if he stopped doing private workouts for other NBA teams.
So right off the bat, there were fewer teams considering Austin, because he complied with Pelinka's condition. 🏀💰

it’s funny how the nba is like a show full of recency bias. Nothing bad about austin i love watching him but even though he was cool as a rookie and earlier this season when he played, people act like he’s never been here before

He was already a bucket and now he found out how to draw contact. When Bron when out, he got more point duties and has shown that he’s a legit playmaker. Hillbilly Kobe is a guy
