The truly amazing thing is that Dode Martin, who is prominently featured in this film, is still actively building cars, and has a current NHRA Driver's License. Dode is a WWII vet, and saw action at The Battle of the Bulge.

I'm a few years late to this comment, since you commented, Dode has passed. Miss seeing the Dragmaster at the Museum.

Look, you don't have to fabricate tall tales in order to gain acceptance amongst your peers. We like you just the way you are. So enough with the BS already. lol

I love the old superchargers. They are coming back. I saw a video of someone working on one.

Miss Champion didn't cry rape from the prolonged kiss.

Love these old "slingshot" dragsters with the driver at the rear ( but not too safe if the engine blows, for obvious reasons).

great to see a quick clip of the Ram Rod (later known as the High And Mighty) 1949 Plymouth Buisness coupe with a Hemi. the Ramchargers (a group of Chysler engineers) 1st car. the 1st car to ever have a tunnel ram (which the ramchargers invented).

I can just picture Wally and Beaver Clever in the stands munching race track nachos and sipping on an ice cold Coke...

For all practical purposes, the Sw coast with its better racing climate was ahead of us in the East..

For 1/2 a second, I thought the flag man was Pee Wee Herman!😂

I wonder who thought it was a good idea to race on a strip full of utility poles?

Was this filmed at the old Detroit Dragway in Riverview, Michigan just south of Detroit?

7:39 odd to see a 2 year old car built into a drag car

Hasn't drag racing changed since then!
The dragster driver wasn't even wearing gloves!
Dragsters being built in a small suburban workshop (then) compared to the big $$$ race team headquarters of today!

Twisted lifter...that's BS. No such thing.

    • @Fairlane55

A roller lifter has to remain aligned with the camshaft lobes. If it rotates in its bore that's a twisted lifter.
