      It's only in recent years I used bike oils in bikes . As I've had older motorcycles and when I started riding in 1972 you really didn't have much choice. But nowadays with all the new types available and better quality its best to.

      Why is everyone saying that Castrol oil is bad... and failed in all the tests on TH-cam, even though Castrol is a leading and giant company in this field? Is this a reality or is it a media war?

    • @cameronwood1994
      @cameronwood1994 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@seragali1353 Most tests done on TH-cam are not even remotely representative of what actually goes on inside an engine. Pouring oil at very low temperatures to see which flows the fastest is not how cold viscosities are measured (they use cold cranking simulators and mini rotary viscometers), and the Falex bearing tester (known as the one-armed bandit) to measure engine wear is actually not only measuring the wrong parameter, but also the test itself is easily manipulated. In short, the videos are good entertainment but of little use in the real world.

    I've been putting ordinary car multigrade in my Japanese motorcycles for years and years usually 10w40 or 5w30 the cheapest you can find in the supermarkets. Usually semi-synthetic sometimes fully synthetic. I've never had gearbox issues or clutch slip. I had cruisers, street bikes, sportbikes, motocross bikes, trial bikes and Enduro bikes. I've done over 58,000 miles on my current bike 2014 Yamaha MT 09 on snowy alpine mountains roads and red hot Spanish and Portuguese roads. It never smokes or uses oil. I do an oil change about every 4,000 miles and change the oil filter after every third oil change or 12,000 mile. I bought this bike with just over 1,000 miles on the clock and have ridden it hard from day one. It's never had any engine issues still on original spark plugs which were last checked at 30,000 miles when I did the valve shims and looked brand new. To me all the stuff about oil is a myth or a scam to sell more expensive stuff. Any engine oil is slippy and lubricates, full stop.

      For higher visc = higher concentration= higher conductivity= higher density they do all those if u select the right oil spec , 10w-40 is the same as 5w-40 in the warmed up environment, which I used.

    I have owned 2 high mileage bikes. Yamaha vstar 650, 202k miles and my current bike is a roadstar 1600 with 233k miles. Neither bike had anything except the cheapest car oil I could find. As long as it is changed regularly it does not matter what oil is used.

    Myself and many others have used good quality car oils of the correct viscosity in bikes for many years and in quite a number of cases have run to 200, 000 miles plus with 100,000 plus being very commonplace. Using semi synthetic rather than full seems to cure any clutch issues if they arise yet still achieve this engine longevity. I believe that the benefits of bike specific oils would only be realised with regular use on the track where sustained high rpms are used (well at least in the case of larger bore bikes, ie probably 600cc plus). plus).sustained

    I take your point, particularly on the possible effect of car engine oil on a bike clutch. However, I have been using fully synthetic 5W30 car oil in my ZZR1100 for over 20 years, with no problems at all. It is an old bike though, so I wouldn't recommend risking it on a newer bike...

    I put some synthetic car oil in my Yamaha 1200 recently. Only because that is what I had left in the garage.
    Well after 150 miles; 1. The clutch doesn’t hold, it slips when I really lean into the throttle. 2. The gearbox now has an annoying howl at highway speeds.
    Just picked up some cheap, but motorcycle specific oil. Will be changed out tomorrow.
    So yes, I concur - do not put car oil in your motorcycle ; unless perhaps your mb is low power

    Who cares if you put motorcycle oil in your car? As long as the viscosity matches, you're good to go. When you drive only cars from the 1980's, no body gives a flying puck since there are no electronics in exhaust to screw up. Best cars ever made are 1980's American. New enough for all luxuries and quiet smooth riding, but old enough to avoid the crap of techno hell.
