Yet, you can imagine how many times Julie went to her with the boy and she threatened, beat, and still chased away the boy even with the boy being oblivious and innocent about what he was being mistreated for. Yet she expects to be forgiven and can't forgive the singular action of her mother without any intervention or even acknowledgement of wrong doing. Also, her account of suffering was partially, of her own doing, as she made no effort to further contact her mum to plead or even, the father of her son when her situation became dire.
