    interesting to note that the guy who ran sunset corp, Daniel Lopatin, also wrote the soundtracks to Uncut Gems and Good Time, as well as collaborated with The Weeknd on his most recent album. Really interesting to see that such a small, obscure youtube channel belongs to such a big name

      It’s crazy for me because I loved nobody here and was a huge fan of OPN separately, and went a while not knowing about the eccojams sideproject, so when I heard it I had this divine moment of “shit, Daniel made ‘nobody here’ didn’t he?”

    The rainbow road in ‘Nobody Here’ is from an extremely rare Taito game called Laser Grand Prix. The game is lost media, and the only things that exist is part of the laserdisc that the footage it uses for the background and some screenshots.

    • @Dave01Rhodes
      @Dave01Rhodes 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      And Laser Grand Prix was apparently very popular in Japan in the 1980s. The rainbow road seen in Nobody Here is very likely the origin of Mario Kart's Rainbow Road.

    Vaporwave was created to make nostalgia for the 80s, but now I'm just nostalgic for the peak of its popularity. I remember I even made a few vaporwave tracks lost to time and I was a kid. It was such a good era for underground internet electronic music. Saint Pepsi is one that always comes to mind.

      It's so strange how your perception of the "decline" of vaporwave differs from mine. I only discovered vaporwave in 2017, and I got hooked on it from then until 2019. That, to me was when vaporwave "declined", even though vaporwave still soothes a craving of my ears to this day. But I think what's actually happening is that vaporwave will always be here. Like "nobody here", vaporwave will always continue to exist, and people will happen upon it at random times. It might touch them, and some who have loved vaporwave may move on after a couple of years, but there'll always be a new set of unknowing folk who'll get introduced to it again

    • @comeflynextome94
      @comeflynextome94 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@you_gullible_fucc I got into vaporwave in 2017 too! My first exposure was the video "USED TO KNOW" by Xorox (an adaptation of Lucien Hughes' "CRISIS"). It might not be as popular, but to me vaporwave never died. Not as long as we have channels like Deep Sea Current, Vapor Memory, Pad Chennington, etc. releasing mixes and, in Pad's case, new music.

    There's some Boards Of Canada fan videos from the mid-2000s (notably a 2006 one for Roygbiv that I recall) which are pretty vaporwavey, using altered 80s commercials and stuff. Boards Of Canada's whole gig was the feeling of nostalgia as well, but for around the 60s/70s mostly, since they made their first releases in the 90s.

    • @MrDachshund99
      @MrDachshund99 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Actually gonna pick myself up on this before someone else does. They made their first PUBLIC releases in the 90s. Supposedly there's 80s BoC stuff but it's little more than legend honestly.

    • @profd65
      @profd65 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No, no, no. Just stop it. Every homemade fan video that uses old TV clips is not vaporwave. And yes, Boards of Canada is very "nostalgic"--even the Boards of Canada name is--but that doesn't make Boards of Canada vaporwave. Roygbiv is definitely referencing 70s/80s public television or local television theme music; it might even be directly quoting the music of some show, it sounds so close to stuff that I heard as a youth. But that doesn't make it vaporwave. The guy who did a lot of the artwork for Dead Kennedys--Winston Smith--was making crazy collages using advertisements at least as far back as the early '80s.

I recomend you and everyone else interested in this topic to get to know about hauntology. Mark's Fisher "Ghosts of my life" is an interesting and important book about hauntology phenomena. Well looking at the comments to that video, the visuals come from a game called Manhunter: new york, and the song sampled was from Roger Troutman's My Emotions. Roger Troutman was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds outside his recording studio. A block away, his brother was found dead in his car with a self inflicted gun shot wound to his head. It was speculated that his brother killed him and then himself, as to why he did it, I'm not sure. So I imagine the visuals in the video is a sort of reference to Roger's death in a way.

    It doesn't matter who you are, i think we can all agree that vaporwave is probably the most diverse genre of all time. Every artist has there own special unique take on the genre and style, it's windows 96 is so different from Vektroid, and why Death's Dynamic Shroud is so different from Blank Banshee. Vaporwave is just not a music genre or aesthetic to me, it's more of a canvas to paint your own thoughts and feelings onto the world and I thinm that's why it's so unique.

    me:
    " insta-sub. , loving the content so far. btw, why did yo u leave that comment on sunsetcorps video 'nobody here'? your comment read 'The road to salvation'."
    lesgenssontmechants pourleternite:
    "i cant remember.. but i think the music made me think of a better place.. warm and accepting"
    Btw this was on a really fucking disturbing video on his channel called '...', he has a few videos uploaded titled that way.
    sorry for any mistakes cross faded af rn kek

    The Vaporwave is a sub genre of the Synthwave/Retrowave of the mid 2000s (these songs are not only soundtracks for memes) if you do a video it’s better to be informed on the subject.

    On a similar note, for anyone who's aware of trap music (the EDM style, not the hip-hop style), there was a producer who captured the trap sound perfectly, almost 10 years before it emerged as a genre. Look up "Benga - Middle Man"
