Well there’s 124 PG/SG that have played over 300 minutes this season and Harden is 7th in Steals/36 and 20th in Blocks/36. It’s really hard to defend his effort on defense most of the time but I didn’t know we determine the MVP by looking at half of their game. His OBPM is first out of all guards and its 1.6 higher than Curry who is second and 3.2 higher than Kyrie who’s third. His offensive contributions are just too high to exclude him from MVP talks because he has average or below average defense. Also yeah I’d say the regular season is important when the original comment is addressing them talking about a regular season award.

LeBron on the other hand had a team that was good on one end of the floor and there was only one way of winning games: outscoring the opponent. That comparison you made is flawed in two ways: Harden had the better team around him and secondly he didn't win 3 but 0 games. He contributed to 3 wins but CP3 was the main factor and it's fairly obvious when you look at a series of indicators: Harden's playoff performances in general, Harden's performance without CP3 both in the playoffs and in the regular season, plusminus, on/off stats, CP3's impact as a leader, who's stepping up when things get tough etc etc. With the exception of this season and health I'd even add CP3 to that list and take him over Harden

I'm a fan of James Harden, but he's getting a ton of points for two reasons. First of all, he's pretty much the only REALLY dangerous weapon on offense for the Rockets with CP3 out so of course his numbers go up as he carries the team. Second of all, James Harden benefits MASSIVELY from free throws. He has more fouls called in his favour from behind the three point line ever. Since 2016, he has over 200, no one else even has 90. He has around as many as 2, 3, and 4 combined. Even this year, he's averaging a career high 33.6 points per game, but he shoots 11 free throws a game. 9.4 of thoss 33.6 points come from the free throw line, and when the playoffs come and the refs let them play, Harden is much less dangerous. Since he was traded to the Rockets when he was 23, James Harden averages 10.24 free throws per game. That's between a third and half of his points on a season by season basis.

It’s really hard to defend his effort on defense most of the time but I didn’t know we determine the MVP by looking at half of their game. His OBPM is first out of all guards and its 1.6 higher than Curry who is second and 3.2 higher than Kyrie who’s third. His offensive contributions are just too high to exclude him from MVP talks because he has average or below average defense. Also yeah I’d say the regular season is important when the original comment is addressing them talking about a regular season award.

dunno why these guys keep making the fact that harden lost game 7 against the warriors or even shot 2-13 on 3s that game lol, they already having a hard time with Paul against that warriors team and him going down lol.. you put 2 guys on harden and that's twice hard to score against and twice the pressure lol and he can't even throw or let Paul facilitate cuz he's out.. let's face it warriors is a very strong squad and you at least need 2 stars to at least challenge them.. I'm pretty sure out of all the playoff series the warriors played in 2018 (maybe even in the KD era altogether, i don't remember for sure), no one but the Rockets won a single game. The Rockets won 3. Think about that, the supposed 2nd best team in the NBA (because they went to the finals even though they didn't win) DID NOT WIN A SINGLE GAME, but "choker" Harden let a team to one game away from winning.

James Harden didn't win one game vs them and his team was up significantly in both game 6 and game 7. And honestly, I take last year's Rockets without Chris Paul over last year's Cavs in a heartbeat and here's why: Houston has a system that works without Chris Paul. When Harden is doubled without CP3 on the court he still makes the same play as when he's doubled out of it with Chris Paul: passing out of it to a shooter for 3 or Capela under the basket. Houston was good defensively last year and if Harden did more on that end they would be even good without CP3. But Harden isn't. LeBron on the other hand had a team that was good on one end of the floor and there was only one way of winning games: outscoring the opponent. That comparison you made is flawed in two ways: Harden had the better team around him and secondly he didn't win 3 but 0 games. He contributed to 3 wins but CP3 was the main factor and it's fairly obvious when you look at a series of indicators: Harden's playoff performances in general, Harden's performance without CP3 both in the playoffs and in the regular season, plusminus, on/off stats, CP3's impact as a leader, who's stepping up when things get tough etc etc. With the exception of this season and health I'd even add CP3 to that list and take him over Harden

He’s the best in the league at drawing fouls (like it or not), he’s def one of the best closers in the game, and he’s defense got better overall. I personally wouldn’t put steph out there more so bcuz I feel like harden can produce more consistently and harden has better defense 💪🏾

A system making a player "look" better than they are?? Then used nash as an example? No. Harden just scored in the 40's 2nite in a win vs warriors in oakland. He made an impossible 3 to win it. A system doesn't make u score 40 plus in 5 or 6 straight games (with wins btw) in a league where the other teams know you're capable of scoring 40 and design defenses to stop you... and you still put up 40 pts. That's not because of a "system", fool. And i actually aint even feelin harden like that. But The more I hear max nowadays the less I wanna hear max nowadays.
I'm a fan of James Harden, but he's getting a ton of points for two reasons.
First of all, he's pretty much the only REALLY dangerous weapon on offense for the Rockets with CP3 out so of course his numbers go up as he carries the team.
Second of all, James Harden benefits MASSIVELY from free throws. He has more fouls called in his favour from behind the three point line ever. Since 2016, he has over 200, no one else even has 90. He has around as many as 2, 3, and 4 combined. Even this year, he's averaging a career high 33.6 points per game, but he shoots 11 free throws a game. 9.4 of thoss 33.6 points come from the free throw line, and when the playoffs come and the refs let them play, Harden is much less dangerous.
Since he was traded to the Rockets when he was 23, James Harden averages 10.24 free throws per game. That's between a third and half of his points on a season by season basis.

It wasn't until they changed coaches and Jordan started sharing the ball more and started winning that the narrative changed. Can't take away that he's a great player but the production is largely a result of usage
