As I commented to Adriana-vp below, instead of nasty chemical turpentine, I use citrus oil. It is natural (simply orange oil) just like the tung oil is natural and it works fantastic. You mention "food contact" and that is another reason for using the citrus oil as makes it safer for food contact than turpentine.
I think the idea of the final coat being pure tung is that it reacts with oxygen in the air and forms a protective layer. The first coats are the ones that sink in and are diluted to improve penetration. Pure tung oil takes weeks to months to cure completely - a slow reaction with atmospheric oxygen. There are commercial variants out there that aim to improve penetration and decrease cure time - these are often cut with turps, resins and other chemicals and are likely to be less than 10% pure tung. Also the idea of sanding between coats is not to smooth things out, but rather to roughen them up - it raises grain to allow for further penetration.

Looks loooovely. So do u mix 50/50% pure turpentine with the oil? And apply just first coat or all coats? And can u also use white spirit or better turpentine.
I NEVER use turpentine or other petroleum chemicals with my 100% pure Tung Oil. Instead, use citrus oil. It works just as well and is a natural solvent, just like the tung oil is natural.

Yes mix pure turps with the oil 50/50 for the first coat, then I gradually use less and less for subsequent coats. You can use white spirit also.
