@ThisisourYear-wt3mdwhat? I was thinking the exact opposite about that specific time frame. Difficult music with triple tounging and a pretty difficult noodle in the brass, while they park and bark
Coming from one of vandy’s biggest fans, this might become my favorite show from them ever! It’s so exciting and that opener is just immaculate, I can’t wait to hopefully see this live later in the season👏
Wow, just saw the woodlands and Marcus. Geez... The performance level is crazy. I've seen 3 groups that look like they could challenge to win San Antonio
I personally like the special effects bass that ends the opener. It adds depth & fullness, giving gravitas to the ending. Almost every corps does it. I think it works. But the technical aspects of the scores and ability to play those scores are off the charts good…exceptional for a band this size which includes young freshmen players.
@@joshchambers9922 interesting, they appear to have maintained a similar sound. When did they change directors? I assume they have the same music arranger.
? Based on last several years of seeing CTJ, their shows don't look or sound anything like this...at least from my perspective. Not sure if this was meant to be funny given the new VHS band director was once at CTJ.
@@joesekel7908Lipman wasn't at CTJ last year. He took time off from Band directing while pursuing a grad degree at UT. This is more reminiscent of pre covid CTJ although even another level harder
@@AndresConterno WHEN they drop to 5a there’s speculation that they’ll drop a classification if/when they add 7A or slowly raise the numbers Either way, they’re doing great in 6A so I’m sure they’ll continue doing what they do especially with this show
First, in my humble opinion, rifles should be left to DCI where they are an enhancement versus distraction. I feel that the vast majority of high school bands have no business putting a rifle auxiliary on the field, regardless of how delusional they are in believing that their rifle unit is good. As for Vandegrift, they use a more versatile auxiliary called Vision Dance Company. Having won Grand Nats in part due to a fantastic performance by Vision, that unit is capable of physically demanding choreography as well as flag work to visually support and help "sell" the band's show. Typically, Vandy holds off on full visuals, including flags, until well into the competition season. This video was taken at an early September football game.
they do have all this hard drill and music but its EXTREMELY dirty. still they use curved formations instead of straight lines so its hard tell someone is off. they are really pushing these kids and have no care for marching technique at all it looks like(resulting in someone fall) they REALLY need to get it together because woodlands is a LOT much better visually and wayne downey definetly stepped it up on the music arrangement the general effect will be off the charts
Lol. I think you are missing the forest through the trees as I completely disagree with your comments. The point isn't how clean a really hard and yet-to-be-completed show looks in the first week of September. The point is that they can play and, at the same time, march this insanely hard show in early September and then have almost two months to clean and try to perfect it by SA BOA and state UIL. The BOA and UIL scoring potential of this show, especially when cleaned, is off the charts high. In fact, Vandy just took 1st at Austin BOA by 2 points, sweeping all the captions. That simply doesn't happen if professional adjudicators think the show is EXTREMELY dirty. Personally, I like that they are pushing the limits on especially music difficulty. It rivals college marching band difficulty and ALMOST rivals the difficulty of DCI music in my opinion.
oh, bless your little heart for trolling a youtube posting for another band and promoting your favorite. I have never heard of Lonestar before, and I've been to every San Antonio BOA and UIL state finals for last handful of years. Who all voted Loan Star's the best show in the US? Can you share that website or the BOA judges results?
I love the fact that the brass ensemble is pushing the envelope and taking risks. Hard drill and hard music!
@ThisisourYear-wt3mdagreed, but it's harder than usual, right?
@ThisisourYear-wt3md yep, phasing is still an issue they will need to get through. We will see.
@ThisisourYear-wt3mdwhat? I was thinking the exact opposite about that specific time frame. Difficult music with triple tounging and a pretty difficult noodle in the brass, while they park and bark
@ThisisourYear-wt3md don't say that too loud. The band nazi's will get you.

Did they get a new drill designer? This is WAYYYY better drill from Vandy! Wow!
New head director. Check out some of CTJ's drill between 2016-2018. Lipman doesn't let his drill designers give the band easy drill🤣🤣

Who said “nice articulation brass” at 1:51?
That was me judging the work they did this evening vs what they did 3 practices before.
