    Imagine the Oilers 3 on 3 in the 80s.. my gosh.. the rest of the NHL wouldn't have a chance.. the NHL changed the power play rule because they would score multiple goals in 2 minutes with a man advantage. Gretzky would of scored at least 50 goals in his career. Imagine, Gretzky passed less. He would of scored another 100 goals. The man was simply incredible. The greatest of all time.

    lmao - that's what I've always said.
    If Gretzky had the composite sticks, no holding, hooking or interference, nobody allowed to hit him... and 3 on 3 - hell, the NHL put in a rule to prevent the Oilers for getting 4 on 4 situations. He'd have over 1500 goals

    • @GreekboyyD
      @GreekboyyD หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Eliminate those 1980s cardboard cutouts masquerading as goalies and turnstile defencemen. The sticks are overrated. Lots of players could shoot back in the day with wooden sticks. Iafrate and MacInnis regularly shot over 100+ mph. Plus look at how many mediocre players scored 50 goals back then. Gary Leeman? 😂😂😂

      @@GreekboyyD the "goaltending was bad in the 80s" argument isn't as accurate as you might think. Patrick Roy started in the mid 80s. Brodeur and Hasek started in the early 90s. Gretzky also played during the start of the "dead puck era" (1994-95 after the lockout season) where it seemed that more and more teams played "the trap" each season. The goalies stats of today are starting to trend in that direction where more and more have save percentages under .900
      Few stars of today would be able to play in the 1970s or 1980s. I'm looking at you Mitch Marner. That being said, OV probably could - but it would be interesting to see how he'd do without the composite stick and the old skates, etc...

    It sucks so bad that the Ovechkin injury occurred this year. He was from day one obviously well prepaired. The goals weren’t going in the first few weeks, but he still looked faster and more engaged than a year ago and helped team win. Then he went on a typical ovie tear before injury put him down. He had a real shot at 60 goals. Now 40-45 will be a huge accomplishment.

      You have to factor in the league as a whole got better. I don't think he has better numbers if he played today. Even with all the advancements behind him. Possible controversial opinion. But that's how I feel. You look at defenders and goalies in Gretzky's hayday. Nothing to write home about. The game got so fast, talented, and difficult they needed to essentially nerf defending and goalies.
