On Monday 2nd January 2006, in the aftermath of dennis rickman death, dot asked phil for a private word in th vic and they went upstairs and talked to each on their own in the kitchen in the vic flat. It was about dot asking phil if she failed dennis but phil reassured her that she didn't fail him.

They're actors.
Ethel was in terrible pain and was fully aware of hat she was asking Dot to do. When it's the person you love you do things you wouldn't normally do. Dot did what had to be done, even with the threat to her immortal soul out of love. She did the same to Nick. She didn't save him out of love for all the people he had hurt and was still hurting. She's one strong lady.
I hope you never have to see someone you love get eaten alive by cancer , that they are in so much pain they can’t move .
