Can I ask you Molly,I've been learning the Irish language on my own with no help at all for a couple of years I absolutely love it,how does one know that they are no longer at beginner level
What a great video!! 😊 Im still in school and i love irish. Can you please make a video about l sentences to use in school like im gonna go to my locker etc
That’s funny you say that because linguists have noticed some strange similarities between Celtic languages like Irish, and Semitic languages like Arabic.
I love your stories. Have a tough question for you. I started learning Irish on your site, when you had about 200 subs. I did it for quite a bit , then started having trouble , I'm HOH and had trouble with more complex sentences. I'm going back to Ireland in the fall, any ideas what would be a good place to start to learn again?

Hey thanks for your comment 😊 so there’s a few things I could recommend but it depends on your goals and what you have already learned. I would recommend spending some time jogging your memory and revising the things you have already learned. You might think that you’ve forgotten it all but somethings always stick. It’ll help you to see what you remember and build your confidence. I would recommend trying to have some structure, whether that’s following a book and supplementing it with videos or audio about the topic or doing a course. Have a routine and allocate some time to it everyday if possible. There is a good series “Now You’re Talking” th-cam.com/play/PLt6NoCieiwOzdTk7TEtWkyhFNEzFlZyAT.html and it has a memrise app.memrise.com/course/1058833/now-youre-talking-irish/ The Gaeilge gan stró beginner book is good too 😊

I write the subtitles in English and provide them. I also write Irish subtitles which are only available on Patreon. There is no option to automatically translate Irish so I write them myself

Virtually everyone in the world speaks English (and badly) but no one ever asks them what dialect they're speaking. I say this because there's a really annoying discrimination that modern young Irish people and international learners of Irish face that we need to all speak like they do in some Gaeltacht of 25 people. The last thing the Irish language needs is more chains and more counter productive insincere purity spiralling. In answer to your question, I'd say Molly speaks Irish with the northern dialect. Which dialect do you speak?
@@SpeakEasyIrish I'm trying to learn Ulster Irish since that's where most of my ancestry comes from, but it's pretty hard to find a good source for it.
@@iradagrey someone learning English wouldn't choose a Scottish or Australian or Texas Dialect would they? They'd just learn English. Irish is no different.
That's because it isn't her first language. Her original accent is coming through. You'll also hear Welsh speakers who make the language sound English, and Scottish Gaelic speakers who make it sound (you guessed it) Scottish. And Breton? Yeah it sounds like French. It's because the speakers are letting their original accent take over

@ You would be such a good MP for running the National Schools. I think the kids would have more fun learning Irish if You set up how it was taught.

@@DutchComedian nope that’s just how the language sounds and if a Scottish person is speaking Scottish obviously it’s going to sound Scottish
That’s what called an anglo centric viewpoint. Part confusion, part insult.
