that was just a dub thing, Marik really just wanted revenge on the one who allegedly killed his father, not knowing it was Dark Marik who did it. he also wanted the egyptian gods and the title of Pharoah just so he could relieve his family of their tomb keeper obligations and be free.
In hindsight, it’s all Ishizu fault. Think about it. She wasn’t there for Marik, when he was tortured by his father, which made the dark side of Marik then she gave obelisk. To that ego maniac Kaiba which provoked him to make a torment, were everyone got hurt or sent to the shadow realm and she got the confused spirit of the pharaoh to participate in all of this.

The irony of all these 5D's jokes is that it ended up being the best in the series, but everyone was skeptical back then.
In the original manga, after Yami Marik murdered his father and Odion woke up (thus aking the original Marik return), the brothers told Marik the Pharaoh's soul had woken up from the dead and killed his father. That's why Marik hated Atem so much.
Was that in the show?

The Kill Your Family Show used to be great, but it definitely went downhill after Season 4. The reveal that it was all a hallucination and that his family had been the ones trying to kill _him_ the whole time was pretty anticlimactic.
The book was better. It had better pacing, character development, and didn't reveal the twist until close to the climax.
David Hong honestly I think the movie adaptation was pretty good. Regardless of its canonical standing the twist that his family wasn’t actual his family was pretty cool.
I dunno, the 2018 reboot handled the writing a lot more cleanly. Less loose ends, less reliance on flashbacks...hell, it even gave us a catchy theme song.

The "father-stabbing" scene is crueler in the manga D= marik rips off the skin of his father's back (where the carvings for the tombkeepers are) and put it on Odeon, thinking he's dead, saying something like "there, you always wanted to be part of the amily, now you are". gotta love the manga

Well remember that Marik only socialized with his family. So to him, his shitty father is normal. That’s how it is at home so it must be normal and healthy, right? Plus a child just wants love and to be loved. Marik probably went along with whatever his dad said and did because that’s what a loving father is supposed to be because that’s all he knew. That’s how a father is supposed to treat his kids to Marik as wrapped as that is. It’s like the kids that were sacrificed in Silent Hill Homecoming. Yes they are very angry at their parents for having them sacrificed. But the struggle they had was “I love my daddy. But daddy sent me out to get killed.” You know it’s a lot for a kid to wrap their head around. Even for an adult, abuse is a lot to come to terms with

How did YGOTAS, a comedy show making fun of another show, manage to also be incredibly emotional and incredibly badass.
This show is genuinely a work of art
10 years later, and this is still one of the best episodes of YGOTAS. Probably in my top 5.

this series is a great way to KILL some time. the comedy and satire go straight to YOUR heart and make you laugh. there couldn't possibly be any hidden or subliminal messages in this episode though, they have to keep it FAMILY friendly.

Am I the only one who got goosebumps during the end even though this is meant to be a comedy? Just felt so epic. Love seeing two evil people VS each other.
To be fair one might argue that Marik and Yami Marik aren't just "revolting" against the Pharaoh, but the world in general. They were born in a world where they were supposed to be little more than slaves, to sacrifice their entire lives to guard some ancient tomb, so they acquire the desire to flip the tables and be the ones that rule upon the world rather than being ruled upon by it.
