    They are cute when they are new leaves, but they all go green once an adult leaf. The orangish brown goes yellowish brown to green.
    I got mine for $6.99 Canadian site under Variety Philodendron. I got a orange princes and a moonlight philodendron for $14 for the two and $4 local shipping an hour away in Canada From Plant Collective. It is pot luck whatever they feel like sending you under varieties. So don't go by the Brazil philodendron picture.

      Yes you are right...but that goes for many of your aroids...they do go through quite a transformation process from baby leaf to adult. One of the most major let downs for me is the Florida Ghost...which will have a very ghostly pale leaf when it first opens but as it matures will fade into your common green. For as much as they charge for that variety...I do believe it to be a ghost...because I just don’t see it! LOL! So I do understand the process of growth and the changes that it as well as many philos go through...I still love it the same and look forward to the newer more colorful leaves.

      @@PictureMaria1 Oh so you know. Good. Though the pink princess philodendron is one that will variegate and go green and back to variegated again even if left alone. I'm sure you know this as well. TC

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Jude Southern Ontario Anything that is genetically modified to carry the variegation gene has the risk of reverting back...that even applies to the famous Monstera Thai Constellation that is known for keeping its variegation supposedly although I have one that has reverted as living proof. Majority of variegations found in plants are man made and plants don't normally grow that way. Although beautiful, it is a genetic flaw and a mutation that causes it more harm than good, because of the lack of ability to produce and gain the nutrition that is needed to flourish and grow properly. The plant will naturally try to fight off the variegated mutation so that it can grow normally again. That is the reason why most plants revert back. The plant knows that the variegation is a form of mutation, a handicap and a weakness to the plant. It is only in our quest for beauty that we have plants live and grow this way. There are some plants that have been able to fight off the variegated "mutation" and will not produce the variegation at all. That is the reason why they haven't been able to make all plants have a variegated form.

      @@HamsterLife_EnglishLearning Yes and as far as the Pink Princess...there is no telling what it will do...it is so unstable...and is known to revert back to its normal status eventually. I haven't seen yet a specimen pink princess holding its variegation. When it becomes specimen size the variegation is normally out of its system.

    • @HamsterLife_EnglishLearning

      @@PictureMaria1 Yes I agree. I have 3 pink princess, so far so good. If you cut it back at the last time it was variegated it should, but not always come back variegated. So far so good with mine. That is why I bought 3 of them to plant into one pot. I hate plants that look lanky and naked. I like mine to be bushier. There is a woman online that %40 perlite and %50 potting soil. I do the same. I also mix in $10 Coco coir and 1/2 cup on my egg shells ground into powder, 1 /4 cup dollar store epsom salt. I then put white gravel 1 inch thick on top of all my plant pots to help with gnats not to want to lay their eggs in it. I feed my plants January to Dec once a month. I've potted all 20 plants with the same mix. All tropical. Two are Hoya Kerri, Hoya Kerri Variegated.

    I bought a Prince of Orange from ebay this spring and it is doing great. I could look at the colors all day, definitely my favorite. So, today when I saw one at a local nursery for 10 bucks, I had to get another one! LOL I also have rogo congo, black cardinal, mcolley's finale and a lemon lime. I just loooove these types of philodendrons, so "jungley" looking..........I made that up haha

      Yea it's great that you don't have to search to hard here in Florida. They seem to be everywhere...although I have heard in some places they are harder to come by. I suppose that is why they seem them so high online. The law of supply and demand. How much were they in your area and did you pick one up?

    Do you think the Prince of Orange would climb up a tomato cage trellis? I have 2 small plants but was thinking about trellising them together.

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They can grow taller but they are not really climbing or vining philodendrons. They usually grow more compact...similar to how a birdnest fern would grow. Unfortunately because of the way it grows I don't believe that a tomato cage would benefit it.

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am glad that you are extremely happy with your purchase. That is really all that counts. This is a very easy to grow philodendron requiring your basic philodendron care. Bright filtered light, water as it becomes dry and fertilize on a regular to keep it in tip top condition. To keep vibrant colors on this plant it is suggested to give it very bright light conditions (without direct sunlight). Again congratulations on your new plant baby and I am hoping it grows beautifully for you. ENJOY!

    Right now it's growing well in my office but the leaves are not as bright as before.

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have found if this does not get enough light the color becomes bland. Try putting it in the highest light possible without burning the leaves (bright, filtered light) the colors should become more vibrant.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you that you discover some cool places to shop. 🤞

  • @504doe
    @504doe 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    From now on before you go and experiment on extra buys...look up propagation of that particular plant...philodendrons are known for having many divisions you can make separate plant cuttings and your plant is well over the size to be divided multiple times and you will have divisions that are much larger than the tiny version you purchased separately. I had to learn too

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I thought I was getting a good deal...turns out I really wasn’t. I am finding Lowe’s and Home Depot really have some amazing deals in comparison to some of the speciality nurseries.

    • @504doe
      @504doe 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea but you have to watch them because they and other nurseries are known to pass misnamed plants...plants with diseases etc... since I've gotten into this plant collecting I see things so much differently...I actually had the chance to go to a local nursery and observe some active diseases on plants and when I challenged the manager his reply was "oh they just grow like that" no do not fall for it...if you see distorted leaves and/or flowers move away chances are if you pick one from the bunch that looks half ass decent it may still be a carrier of a dormant issue that can destroy your entire collection if not careful...trust who you trust find reputable growers...one of the ones I trust is Brian's Botanical...they have all types of plants and he started as a avid collector so he strives to collect disease free plants from all over the world. Check it for yourself...some stuff is extreme and on a real huge level meaning you may need all types of equipment to grow certain things like(misters, humidifiers, etc...)but he has it...

    • @redpenda99o
      @redpenda99o 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      they're super easy! Very tolerant of light difference, hardy, etc. The one big mistake I've made is overwatering; these plants don't like to get soaked like succulents. Just wait til the leaves droop a bit and the top two inches of soil are dry, and get the soil moist (I stop before water comes out the bottom for pothos, but with succulents that's how I know I'm done). If the leaf tips turn brown you're probably overwatering.
