Bonjour, Bordeaux! Bonjour, France! 🇫🇷 | 3 rainy days in the city

  • After leaving Barcelona (and therefore Spain), our next stop was Bordeaux, France! And what were we greeted by? A train cancellation. Followed by rain. Lots and lots of rain.
    The weather made it difficult to explore the city fully, but we still got out there and explored, albeit at a slower pace. Honestly, Bordeaux turned out to be the perfect recharge point. We took it easier than normal, because next up, we have 5 full days in Paris!

    I hope vous had a great time in france. A country we know and love. Cassoulet in the south is a must.

      Merci, Scott! We loved France very much (despite the less-than-stellar welcome from Mother Nature). We'll be sure to try some authentic cassoulet if we're lucky enough to return some day.
      Any other recommendations for a potential future visit? A France: Part Deux, if you will?

    Entry to public toilets in Venice is 1 euro, wouldn’t surprise me if Paris wasn’t that much too. it’s a bit disconcerting to see Christmas hasn’t arrived yet on your video when we are halfway through March in real time. Hope the weather improves for you. Enjoy Paris.

    €60 is alot for what you got - thats crazy!! You could stay in the Teneo or Meininger. Or i personally recently stayed in the Staycity bordeaux. You get a 10% discount booking online and you get a kitchen which saves you eating out.- the rate for the staycity without the 10% discount is €70 a night. It could be cheaper booking more nights. Its closer to the center compared to being by the train station. Plus its huge with a kitchen and balcony

    That books and coffee we walked out as they never took our order...considering you are there in December (by the christimas stuff) it seems like you were there the same time

    They dont turn on the water in winter as it would freeze and be very dangerous to walk on ice plus break the pipes

    How come you didnt look around Narbonne instead of waiting in the train station for so long?

    Why did you need to buy new tickets? It's the law in Europe that the train company has to get you there by any means if they cancel a train. Late at night that even includes taxis.

    • @sky37blue
      @sky37blue 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agreed, the train company should have done this. You should definitely apply for a refund

    • @qlctravels
      @qlctravels  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      As newbie travelers, we made the unfortunate mistake of booking these particular tickets through a 3rd party app instead of directly from the train company, which complicated the refund process. Thankfully, though, future incidents of cancelled trains only took five minutes to sort out, presumably due to the law you pointed out (though we didn't realize how easy it would be at the time, so you'll still see some moments of naive stress on our parts in future videos).

    So, we learned from this video that 1: Brian blocks out past rainy days 🌧 2: Lauren blocks out Fat Spidermen 🕸 3: Narbonne (?) train station makes Preston seem luxurious, 4: YES #FreeTheBathrooms 🚽 let's start a worldwide bowel related movement! and 5: Something was definitely off about needing to buy more tickets after a train cancellation. Was it a different route & company you needed to switch to? Did you get a refund?
    As your trip has ended now (we just haven't seen it yet), what did you make of European train travel, and how did the continent compare to the UK? 👍

    • @qlctravels
      @qlctravels  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      1.) It would appear so.
      2.) There's no blocking him out forever.
      3.) It was a decent enough station, but we've had our fill.
      4.) Always happy to see more support for #freethebathrooms.
      5.) We naively booked our tickets through a 3rd party app (rookie mistake), which complicated the whole affair.
      Once the vlog series has wrapped up, we'll have a post-trip series breaking down the experience, comparing different countries, talking about the U.K. versus the rest of Europe, the biggest mistakes we made while traveling, etc. etc. etc. Gotta sort through our thoughts first, but those answers will definitely come. In regards to European rail travel, though, on the whole we thought it was (mostly) great. Not perfect, but definitely a solid system.

    I love your videos! I am wondering if you had good shoes for walking? My feet would be killing me without my Nike tennis shoes❤❤

    • @qlctravels
      @qlctravels  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Lauryn was practical and brought good shoes. Alternated between Converse and Doc Marten boots.
      Brian was... less practical. His Vans sneakers got holes in them and were eventually abandoned in Italy. That meant wearing his dressier shoes for the last few weeks of the trip (in places they had no business being).

      Yes Nike is great for walking around Bordeaux and every place in Europe - especially if it has gortex waterproof. I wore my black Nike runners in December (i used to live in Bordeaux). Although solomon/colombia trail running gortex runners even better for rainproof.

      Ouch. Yeah, we imagine those are rough... 😕 They were bad enough in November, so the busy season must be hard to stomach.
      But on the bright side, the weather should be great! ☀️😎

      True the pizza i used to think was great in Bordeaux but its ok/good. Ireland has since improved pizza so much since. Yeah the best pizza i had was in Lake Garda Italy - i didnt eat pizza in Naples
