Genius! Thank you for the idea of the paper towel holder. Sometimes instead of painters tape I cut a slit in the ribbon cardboard and tuck the end there so it does not unravel. (Think of how a spool of thread has a slit to hold end in place)
I like the paper towel holder for ribbon spools, but I'd need one about 12 feet tall or a dozen of them. I have a huge stash of ribbon. My favorite cookies, which I usually make for Christmas, are Russian Teacakes. Yum!

The best hack is taking a pic and labeling, but my hack is using those fed ex clear plastic sticky label holders on the side of a container and slipping in a list of what is in the container I have used page protectors with packing tape. My decorations are stored in the barn and with the Texas heat scotch tape wouldn’t hold 😂
